Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Would be shattered if Twal got moved on, love the way he plays. He reminds me a bit of Matt Scott. Real meat and veg type operator. Twal has never really wound up on his runs but he's becoming stronger on both sides of the footy year on year, you can see by age 30 he's going to be hitting his prime.
But, I can also see the logic. Benji wants to throw the footy around and Twal doesn't suit that mould but these young dynamic forwards do, more dynamic, able to present to footy and catch and pass.
Not saying I think Benji's vision is going to work out, but you can't say he's not putting all his chips in.

Our recruitment is terrible. Keep letting players go with no one to replace them. Last round shows what happens when you put a bunch of kids up against seasoned NRL players.

Being honest that Manly team was massively down on troops and gave us a hiding.
Agree. We have a heap of kids so should be hanging onto all of our solid experienced first graders, and recruiting more players with 100+ NRL game experience around them.

Twal does his job well and I don't think he's on massive money. It's weird.

You need good defenders to tidy up all the dropped ball that Benji’s attacking style will present.

Letting blokes like Twal & Seyfarth leave to me is nuts. Sure they aren't going to win a game for you but how many forwards realistically do. There are similar quality players in every team playing this weekend. Penrith have Sorensen, solid but no better really, just in a better team. He was struggling for time with the Sharks. Penrith also took Garner and Eisenhuth off us, again not setting the word alight but they do fill a role when needed
I don't get why we lose experience especially when we are so light on for it across our squad, plus they try a lot harder than many we have

Summed up my thoughts…every squad needs balance. We seem to take 1 step forward then 4 backwards.

Stefano is only on 270k unless he got a massive upgrade they haven’t announced
270k 23 upgraded to 500k 24 and 25 (according to the Australian).
Klemmer 400k this year (but its an iffy 400k given it was part of a swap deal in which we are also paying Hastings 150K at Newcastle). 650K 24 and 25 according to fox or 850K 24 and 25 according to zerotackle.

Agree, even though i personally dont rate Twal.

When I do a job around the house my wife will always give me "advice" halfway through on ways to do it better. I always nod my head and politely suggest she should wait until I finish and then tell me what she thinks of what I've done.
How about we wait until the recruitment job is done before we behave like screamin' sheilas.

We've paid big bucks for 2 front rowers who aren't delivering enough. Same as our two edge backrowers.

I just hope these contracts don't screw us over too much but in my opinion we should be able to retain Twal and Seyfarth with the roster we have. We aren't getting value for money out of some players.

Fair point. Let's see the team we run out on the park with next year and then let's see how they perform.

The second part is more important. I think we recruited well this year but it depends on the dollars paid because we appear to be offloading guys on lower value contracts who add to our squad. That is a concern to me.

Twal being told to leave is pretty disappointing. he got to a point by the end of the year where he was our best middle forward and had finally developed an offload and some footwork. now another club will benefit from our time and development we've put into him. he will be picked up by a big club and will excel, of that I have no doubt.

the flipside of the argument is concern over his salary, as well as the fact that Blore has become a middle, Pole is rumoured to be going back to the bench as an impact type, Samuela Fainu should take jersey 17 and one of Matamua and Laulili'i will likely take the 13 jersey, pending any movement in the player market.

with potentially Seyfarth and Twal gone we need to sign a proven middle. let's hope those Xavier Willison rumours come to fruition.

I don't think 500k and 650k are big bucks. I think it is about right for where they are at. Bateman (reportedly 800k) overs and Papallii (reportedly 650K) probably also about right. I don't think potentially losing Twal or Seyfarth has anything to do with the contract value of any of the starting forwards.

I understand we cant have a bunch of props on decent coin, but at the back end of the year, Stef n Klem were outplayed almost every game by the likes of Seyfarth, twal and blore

I strongly believe cutting joffa, twal, seyfarth are poor choices. Those 3 boys are hard effort players. something we have lacked for many years. you need balance in a squad sure, which is why joffa going made some sense. but to lose twal and seyfarth on top of that is stupid. Is our team going to be filled with kids?

I hope you are right. These movements don't sound good to me. Hopefully it's more about providing space for quality recruits or dev players coming through.

i think this is exactly what it is. Ive little confidence in their ability to attract quality recruits but i think that is at least their plan.
It would also not shock me if Twal's contract is surprisingly high. Signed at the end of 21' when we had few other forwards and before his concussion issues. I also think he is pretty overrated, particularly on this forum. Whilst i dont think cutting experienced half decent middles is ever a good thing, i am happy to wait and see how it plays out.

We've been fairly lucky with injuries to middle forwards in 2023, but as it stands if we let Twal go with James and Joffa already gone, if say Klemmer and Stef are unavailable, we're likely starting with Pole and Blore with blokes like Faagutu and S. Fainu playing prop. Maybe even Papali'i moving into the middle.

Not sure what they're thinking. Hopefully the Willison rumour has something to it.

With Twal and Seyfarth, they are players who have performed consistently well this year. On the upside it is likely both are in demand and would be in line for more dollars at a new club which is good if they have famillies. On the downside is I like both players but if the club is promoting from within room has to be made with players who are desirable to other clubs so immediate movement can occur.

Seriously, this sounds like A-grade horse manure. Kid would barely know Tim Sheens. He may be talented but he’s already coming across as extremely high maintenance. I’m not saying him personally necessarily, could be his manager, but seriously what teenage kid with zero senior football experience or even a game in Flegg wants out because a geriatric coach and a recruiting guy get moved on? That’s ridiculous. If this is a manager thing, club needs to dig in for once.
Fair chance the source is either manager Moses, our ex coach or ex recruitment manager. There are a lot of games at play it seems at the moment - Moses v Tartak and McDonnell v Fulton.

We should prepare ourselves for rumours around any of Moses clients with us - Galvin, Faagutu, Bateman, Tumeth, Klemmer.
