$800k per season, will Ola extend???

SEA EAGLES ENFORCER’S HUGE REWARD

Sea Eagles powerbrokers have reportedly tabled a bumper $5.6 million contract in their bid to retain star backrower Haumole Olakau’atu.

If he accepts, the 24-year-old will be contracted until at least the end of 2030 with his previous deal expiring at the end of the 2025 season.

The SMH are reporting the club have been negotiating with Olakau’atu’s management team for several months before the contract was tabled.

His new deal with see him earn around $800,000-per-season to become one of the NRL’s highest-paid forwards.
Can the Eagles afford that within the cap?
There's not many teams in the league that have x2 million dollar men, and one of them will be lucky to get on the field next year.

I could be wrong but DCE’s massive 8 year contract ended this year and he signed an extension 2024-2025. It’s rumoured he earns between $700k-$800k going forward

Given Keppie and Twal are on similar pay packets for next year – in the vicinity of $500,000 – a swap could hold appeal for both clubs. The Sea Eagles and Tigers have been contacted for comment.
If this is true then swapping these guys is [This word has been automatically removed]ing stupid. Keppie is ass & Manly fans have been calling for him to be dropped all year. Not only that but Keppie recently re-signed till 2026 so we'll have a useless forward on 500k for 3 years.... nice to know Joffa was let go to free up cap space to sign future stars like Sean Keppie !!!

Yeah the more I think about it, no way we sign Keppie for any more than $300k or for more than 2 years. Has to be manager talk.

Either way, who cares.
I’m here to support the rugby league team, not to care or have an opinion on who is on the board.
Agreed.

Other than Uncle Nick at the Chooks who else knows of other clubs boards?

The problem is our Chair cannot keep his mouth shut and when he opens it is normally found to be false statements such as Sheens will be coach in 2024 that dribble out.

Good governance can be done unseen, and if an when we start to win ( 2024 hopefully ) all the noise will disappear.

This is exactly my issue with consulting Benny, I don't doubt that he's a clever man. He was very open about his disappointment at not being able to purchase the club, and has since held a bias against the club - just look back to when he was telling Mitch not to sign with us not so long ago. I would rather that impartial people are interviewed.
Yeah. No doubt Benny is a shrewd businessman who has made a lot of money post footy. But he definitely has an agenda which is his in own self interest, not necessarily the clubs. Any feedback he provides has to be viewed through that lens. It was also yet another own goal by the Wests Tigers board to extend Lee's chairmanship just a week after announcing a full review into the clubs performance and governance. It can only be stupidity or tone deaf arrogance. I reckon it is probably the latter. As the old saying goes, it's only a rort if you're not in on the giggle.

I can't see how Keppie is an upgrade on Twal, so why make a swap. Hopefully it is just manager talk. Also, surely we hired Scott Fulton to do more than just go to swap-meets with Manly! I sincerely hope his black book extends beyond Brookvale and Blacktown Workers. It's not as if Manly have a great roster to cherry-pick. They have a small group of stars who are not going anywhere (DCE, 2 X Turbo, probably Olakau'ato), a small group of really good first grade quality (Garrick, Saab, Croker, maybe Aloiai) who are also not going anywhere and the rest are all fringe or depth at best. Not the pond we want to fish from. We got the Fainu brothers, looks like Olakau'ato will stay - $5.6M for 7 seasons, he would be mad not to - so no more value to be had from raiding the Manly roster I would think.

On his day Keppie can be an intimidating alpha front rower putting big hits on (when people run straight at him) also making hard yards with a decent offload. Sadly it’s about 1 every 10 games.

IMO his defence against smaller players is terrible especially on the try line, he just moves so slow laterally… In close 50/50 games he always seems to make a dumb error whether it’s a knock on 20 out from own line or a high tackle when the opposition are pinned deep(brain snaps).

To summarise I think Keppie is a better impact player that could be a leader with the right mindset while Twal is the safer more consistent.

Even though everyone knows who Politis is you rarely if ever hear him speak, even Ceo's you rarely hear them speak. Other than our loud mouth and Gus i wouldnt know who the administrators are at other clubs. Albeit i have a vested interest in our's but still.
I don't often if ever agree with anything Benny says but what he said about Lee being extended for 3 yrs prior to the review even being conducted or finalised is a joke. He also mentioned if you were on the board and the chair of the board who also pumps in the money puts something forward, who's going to go against him.
I'd rather have another major sponsor its a huge conflict of interest, I think Lee has good intentions but i don't think his ego allows him to make the best choices.

We are apparently speaking with Cade Cust about him potentially signing with us.
He has been hampered by injury and hasn’t produced his best for Wigan, but he’s still only 24y.o and I remember him playing a couple of good games both in the halves and at hooker for Manly a few seasons back before he headed to the UK.
Could be a decent depth signing on a minimum wage.
a possible replacement for smith
