Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Gee the way must on this forum are caring on about losing a couple of kids , at such a young age is worrying , u know that less than 1% out of 100 make it to 1st grade . U can’t keep them all and I think we could be going down a slippery slide putting all our eggs in kids , if this fails it could put the club back another 5-10 years

It's a tough one. We have a lot of juniors, having two sides gives us an advantage in some ways, it can be hard to know who are our best players are as players develop at different rates, but putting all our best players in the inner side would create a super team of sorts.

We should be nurturing both our junior sides, why we've left Balmain to fend for itself while putting all the best players in Wests makes no sense. Western Sydney boys with Wests, boys from the rest of the country in Balmain. It makes sense, hopefully Bronson can help get it done. Concerning is Fulton is going rogue, unless he's signed a half and fullback better than Conti and Nassar he's weakened the club.
There’s two ways I look at it. The two kids leaving are 16. If Fulton is getting involved it’s at some point been raised that they should be considered for the top squad either by club or manager. Correct me if I’m wrong but I didn’t think Fulton was involved at the junior level. So the part that disappoints me is, they are obvious talents, they are 16 though they cannot play first grade for 2 years. Why can’t they cool their heals and see out another year before looking for a top grade deal? Meanwhile you’ve got 20 year olds happy to play 4-5 games at Parramatta and the Storm.
So 1 they are rejected.
Or 2 they are impatient.
Given they left to go to clubs with more competition in the halves around their age I’m leaning towards the second.

My other comment is, Balmain is apparently seen as the North Sydney of the juniors. Everyone not getting a look in at their local tries out for Balmain as a last hope. It’s one a shame when we have actual locals of the area not retained but I can also appreciate that there would appear to be a lack of connection amongst the playing group given it’s a barbarian team of sorts.

Yes.

You could have. Though, He didn't have the premierships, didn't play in the spine and wasn't in a glaring area of need for the club, so the comparison is ok at best.

Even still, the issue arose once he had arrived and we saw a pattern of poor output. It's at that point that his signing can be, correctly, judged harshly. Very few people were upset with Blair signing prior to him arriving. On paper, he was a fantastic addition. In fact, he was seen by many as the missing ingredient and one of the key reasons we were instilled as premiership favourites at the start of 2012.

If Luai was to sign (I personally don't think he will), and we see a similar poor output from him over the first part of his tenure here, then the fanbase will have every right to be upset with the lack of value for money.

But this is literally the case with every signing.
Look Blair was a weird signing.

He was in the "leadership" group with Melbourne, yet was never a high output kind of player. I saw him as the replacement for Michael Croker, an impact player to drive the ball forward and break the line. A Wrecking ball.

We lost Chris Heighington who was a consistent as they come, workhorse. I remember his supercoach score would always be between 50-60, totally bankable for regular output.

Instead we got a wrecking ball. Someone who keeps his place in the line, instead of doing massive output. Yet we never had that high structure of a team and were used to Fulton/Heighington/Ellis/etc scrambling in defence to keep our structure. Blair was too different to work. (I am always baffled that Josh Reynolds did not work out enough for him to start for the team... Mbye was an awful signing, but at least he always took the field.)

Luai would be a great signing. It just would make no sense with Fainu/Sezer/Sullivan/etc. We need a halfback and would have 3.5 5/8'ths.

They’ve had longer than 2 weeks. They made up their minds a while ago that he’s expendable.
..... at that price
He’ll be great for us and at the end of his career the deal will look great
A bit like the crazy long term DCE deal which turned out to be a smart call by Manly

And that’s why he’s expendable. If he was a priority, he’d already be re-signed like Cleary and Edwards.

It was reported the Panthers have told him they can only offer him 800k per season which would make him the 2nd highest paid player at the Panthers if he accepted. That doesn’t sound like a club that want him gone. He asked the club to talk to other clubs whilst not having a manager.

If we come in at $1.3m per season as per rumored, 500k more a year whilst not paying agent fees & wouldn’t have to relocate I doubt many would say no to that payday it’s probably double (after manager cuts) than he is on a season now to put it into perspective.

Would you take luai or Moses if you were to pick one?

I'd take luai. Seems more consistent and less errors and a cooler head. Even if it's choosing one to play halfback. Spending massive dollars on either player worries me, but less so with luai. And he's younger too so a 5 year contract, if that's what is wanted, isn't so concerning.

You aren’t going to pick a guy who’s never turned up in a big game in his life over a triple premiership winner.

Luai to us on 1.1 mill I would go for that , $ 300 k more than panthers x 4 years is a lot and we will be on the up with him and the others we signed plus Pappi , Bateman , Steff , Klemmer all starting to gel then add Pole , plus
Sezer , Brothers and Sullivan we just need to add a centre boom we there

I think Api wants him over here too.

Might teach our boys what winning looks like.

I’m still skeptical about anyone we sign due to the fact we are a mess off the field. We have no direction and are run by clowns. That affects on field results. This year is proof of that. No squad with the likes of Api, Ice, Bateman, Klemmer and Bula should only be winning 4 games all year. That is an indictment on the coaching staff and admin.
