Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I'd love Bud to become the next JT, but honestly- watching him play- he is so reminiscent of Darrell "Tricky" Trindell in the way he plays.

If that is the level we get from him- I'm good with that. When you watch us attack the try line, we lack that player that makes the defence stand back & wait. Yes, we need an organisor (Sezar followed by Fainu I expect), but we need that guy that is 'at you' making teams worry about what is coming. Between Api & Sezar/Fainu- the Tigers have direction. None of those guys have the 'dazzle play' that Sullivan injects though.

If he starts at 5/8 next year, I'll go on record & say he is likely our top try scorer.

Just a few stats I was talking about in regards to our edge backrowers Bateman 20 games 2 line breaks 32 off loads 94.6 tackle rate ice 23 games 3 linebreaks 20 offloads 93.2 tackle rate blore 15 games 4 linebreaks 25 offloads 95.9 tackle rate make of these your own opinions but I believe letting blore go is a major mistake

That a motivated player.

I’m always an optimist and I’m hopeful Bud will become our JT
I get similar vibes of JT heading to the Cows post a few seasons and flashes at the Dogs
I don’t see the similarity? Thurston signed with Bulldogs for no pay (Work experience type of contract) when other clubs refused to take him on, yes even at no cost. OTOH, Sullivan signs with WT for $550k. Thurston was never going home to mum without success.
I’m not getting excited by Sullivan until I see proof.

Agree. The big thing about JT is he built a team. He didn't go jumping on the bandwagon of good teams, like a cooper cronk. He achieved a level way beyond that.

I hope he's made an immortal before any other half that played in the last 20 years.
Cowboys made a preliminary final the season before Thurston arrived, same as Roosters the season before Cronk.

Sullivan was a fringe player in a team arguably on a par with our team last season. I am not bagging him for one minute and after what we have had in the halves in recent years he must be a improvement, but to compare him to a young JT is a serve case of enlarged optimism.

To be honest Iam more concerned about his history of dicky hamstrings, once you have had a problem it’s very hard to ever fix the problem permanently

the thing with Bud is that he's had a rough trot to begin his career. the pandemic, Anthony Griffin and some niggling injuries have made life hard for him, but if you cast your mind back to 3-4 years ago, he was the diamond in an SG Ball team that included Sloan, Schoupp, the Feagai's and Amone.

he's always had the talent and shown glimpses, but the biggest thing for him is consistent time in the halves and a coach that will be able to develop him. Benji will do both. he needs to cut some weight and get some miles in the legs, but the talent is there.

I think he's probably our most important player going into 2024, given he'll be marshalling the left edge. if he fires, they all will.

He has a better resume than Johns. Maybe he’s just not old enough yet?

Cows made a big move to get him and it was very good dollars, probably he hadn’t been on much at the Dogs
Some similarities to Bud I reckon

Reaching there. Yes, made prelim, but came 7th after 5 years of nothing.

Cronk has never been in a struggling team. Either surrounded by cam Smith and slater or Tedesco, keary and manu
I don't believe it's reaching. They came 7th with a strong team that had a slow start to the season (1-5).
Thurston spent most his career behind international forwards (Rauhihi, Scott, Tamou) and with class alongside him (Morgan, Bowen, Coote). Even his backline was mostly classy players. They also were good enough to go on a run to make a GF without Thurston.
Sure Cronk was never in a struggling team, but neither was Thurston.

If you think the Cowboys are the same as the Storm or Roosters, I can't argue with you mate. Agree to disagree.

Rorters are offering Michael Jennings (35) a trial and train deal for 2024. Jennings has spent the last three years out of the game with a suspension for a failed drug test. Looking super fit Jennings is keen to return to the NRL.

Hmmm .. 35 years young and looking super fit has me a tad worried .. what was in these drugs he got banned for .. ?? Same goes for Bronson Xerri former Sharks now a Bulldog .. looks like he could fit into any clubs back row .. he looks like a beast .. expect big things from Xerri this season.

Unless they test for historic use , which I think only really applies to things like cycling , athletics , swimming etc . Then he can be on whatever , and probably was , as long as he’s clean when he comes back .
Still steroids arnt really the go anymore because of the long term side effects .
It’s usually HGH that’s the go nowadays , and , I’m happy to be corrected , they only can rest for there by comparing testosterone levels .
So if you can prove you’re a rock ape , with high levels historically you’re basically good to go . Or at least forge it up .
