Given the status of the club I think everyone today that was given the sack would be ineligible to come back onto the board. Re-appointing any of them will not go down well when we’ve been calling for change. Bringing them back doesn’t do that and the only way to move forward is with different people. Stapleton is still on there since I don’t think Balmain can appoint anyone else to represent them.

Do you need continuity and famililarity if the previous operation was a disaster? Someone new making their own conclusions is more valuable in my view. Barry was also chair before Lee so would be familiar. If the people who were on the board are the ones choosing the independents then that still raises a red flag of sorts. But until the full makeup of the board is known it's hard to know how to feel. What if they choose Lee and Andreacchio as independents?

Yes I think you do need continuity. Choose the best people from the previous iteration. Even if mostly to learn from what can be improved, and what did actually work previously. Maintain existing networks and relationships that benefit the club.

Pretty rare to dismiss an entire Board. A complete scorched Earth, in my opinion, is overly drastic. Especially here. Tigers may lack on-field success but operationally (off-field) they have done OK and I think it's too simplistic to just say "it was a disaster from alpha to omega" and dismiss everyone.

I expect Andreacchio could not be an independent unless he stepped down from HBG.

re selecting independents - yes, if it's a sham and they just choose their own cronies, the whole thing is pointless. We'll know soon enough when the appointments are made.

Even if they resisted, they would have been punted. They hold no power to appoint themselves. Nice that they left graciously rather than creating another topic in the papers.

Talking about the Board here - how would they have been punted? It was an independent review with non-binding recommendations.

Holman Barnes could do what they please, including ignoring the recommendations... in fact, including smothering the recommendations which were not required to be made public. Private review for a privately-run organisation.

So to that extent, Holman Barnes absolutely had the power to appoint themselves. They've been doing it ever since they existed.

Burgess only became chairman after Cavanagh got suspended due to Lee H's hissy fit. Cavanagh was the only official who had the balls to call out the whole governance issue of the WT. When he he put in a legal complaint over the way he had been treated the Magpies led by Burgess stabbed him in the back, distanced themselves from him and backed Lee H. No way Burgess should be anywhere near the board.

If we somehow announce Luai this week it could be arguably the most influential week in Wests Tigers history.
