Look, the view of the owners, previous board and CEO JP was that the money and interest is in the inner west. It has not been a Balmain vs Wests thing since Wests Magpies became the primary owners. Wests Ashfield was the office / home of the corporates and some of the administration offices were there until the COE.The merger happened 24 years ago … the reasons you may or may not have had to “support” it then are not relevant any more,,,like your comments about the stadium redevelopment that never occurred ..
Since then, Balmain has died, and Sydney and the game itself have evolved…as both will continue to do so…
Your ideas that things have to continue to be “even“ between the two former entities is outdated… you even mentioned “ fairness”… why does this have to be the situation?
We need to do what is in the best interests of winning football games and competing for championships… trying to keep everybody happy hasnt achieved much in that regard the past 24 years..
If the club wants to just keep making up the numbers year after year …keep doing what they are doing…
If they want to challenge the premiership heavyweights consistently… then change is required…
Concentrating on where the juniors and families that buy the memberships are going to come from down the track seems a good pillar to focus on as part of that change …
Concord has a history of sorts, it was mentioned when they first moved into the COE why Concord Oval was significant as a training base.
In terms of the above it’s in the past.
If the new CEO and board see reason to believe the club should operate solely out of the South West I believe long term it will happen. And short term we may see signs of it happening.
In terms of making it a viable option. Buy a Campbelltown membership and get down to as many games as possible.
Personally I’d like to see the club scrap the membership options and just have full season only for a little less than what they are offering now.
That will get both sides of the venture committing quicker!
