Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Let’s hope all four of Sullivan, Latu Fainu, Lachlan Galvin and Onitoni Large fulfill their potential while playing for Wests Tigers and stick with the cub long term.
Not sure how that happens if we sign Luai for 5 years from 2025 ?
If Luai is signed it comes down to how flexible/willing some of these guys are to play in other positions.

I would think Large could be sold on a start to 1st grade in the centres and then halves when Luai finishes up (he would still only be 22/23 by this point).

Fainu probably has the inside running for the other halves spot long term, but needs to earn it. Sullivan likewise will need to earn it otherwise would possibly be more suited to a 14 role.

Really hope Galvin fills out and plays 2nd row so we can keep him, but really sounds like he wants to play 6.

We really need to create a winning culture at the club, as this could also help encourage players to stick around.

I think there will be at least 1 casualty if Luai is signed.

Everyone keeps saying Bud might be 14…

What is the plan for Da Silva ? he is going to need to be groomed to take over from Api right?

Doubt you carrying both on the bench,,,

Thanks for the info. It is good to learn Richardson's thinking in terms of Fonua-Blake. I am pleased he is considering our junior talent in player acquisitions.
Wow. Dont buy one of the best in their position because we have kids in their teens coming thru?
If you have 3 very talented juniors in the same age group the chances are none make it, is higher than all 3. Obviously 1 making it is the highest.
TBH, i think he feels we need laui more

That’s how I see it.
If we lived in a perfect world we could keep them all and move these young players who have their hearts set on becoming NRL halves to other positions, but reality is we will lose 2-3 of them if we sign Luai.

Even if the sky falls and that turns out to be true, It doesn’t matter if luai is still the better player.

I think Richo correctly pointed out that you need to maintain flexibility within the cap to be able to act when necessity or opportunity occurs. And our middles are not our weakest link. That is why he and Benji pulled the plug on the AFB offer.

What is the logic of this question? If all of them fulfill their potential, then we will lose one of Sullivan, Fainu or Galvin...you can't play 3 halves. Will you then complain we shouldn't have signed Sullivan because it blocks Galvin or Fainu? It's just such a strange take. Have you thought about what happens if they all don't fulfil their potential?

It's totally plausible that you can give first grade time to players in alternate positions until such time as the spot opens up, through injury, drop in form, retirement or release.

Agree. It's actually the way top clubs do it. Stock pile the best talent and then keep those that look the best. Very strong position to be in. Yes you might lose a good one, but the chances are you have slightly better locked in.

We have supposedly signed Sullivan and Latu Fainu on deals rumoured to be worth around 400 - 500k per season.
If those figures are correct, it will be a lot of money for one of them to not even be playing NRL if Luai is signed.
Then it’s likely Onitoni Large will cost around 500k possibly more once he turns 18 which is not so far away. If you are asking where I’m getting that figure, well Joseph Suaalii was signed for approximately 700k as a 17 year old on the back of reputation and being in demand from Rugby Australia, the hype on Onitoni Large is just as big, if not bigger.
Lachie Galvin is one of the most highly regarded schoolboy rugby league player in years, hyped in a similar fashion to how Brad Fittler was talked about as a schoolboy, so would it be better to keep him and keep him happy or let him go ? I know what I’d be doing.

Da Silva will get his shot eventually. Koroisau will retire in the next 2 or 3 years. 14 should be either Sullivan or Fainu

I come across some highlight of a young centre playing for Sunshine Coast Falcons Hastings Deering Cup side at 19 years of age, he also made his Host Plus Cup debut in 2023..
His name is Mason Peut, looks an outstanding ball runner with great balance and speed,
I wonder if Scott Fulton has him in his sights ?
