Junior Tupou #254

21 and is already one of our best backs and we just let him walk
C’mon champ, that’s not saying much, as our backs are shocking. Look he probably had 3-4 good games this season, the rest were average ti below average. Considering it’s his first full year in first grade, that’s pretty good. You would think that the should transfer into being better this year as he gets used to the game. But not a guarantee, and not worth the money people are saying the burley are paying. Good luck to him and maybe the offer was to good to refuse, but we picked him out of union and spent a lot of time changing him back into a league player only for him to take the money.
Don’t let the door hit u on the way out!
Save our money for Large and Galvin in the centres and we can buy a few wingers later on, or put Mason there…

what about we let him develop
Bula offensive games dissapears some times too and hes out of position a lot
it happens to young players its up to the coaching staff to coach it out of them
still its worth a chance to keep him long term i doubt dolphins offered him a lot we just had interest in another 5/8
Dont see how Luai has anything to do with retaining Tupou....??
We need wingers, particularly as our most expensive one will likely never play again for WTs
We have no idea what he was offered in his next contract, nor what Dolphins offered..but given above comment In sure we knew we needed to be competitive.
Dolphins obviously offered a few sheckles more
..or maybe he was simply unhappy
Disappointing

we just spent 1.2 mill on another 5/8 after just getting one on a 4 year deal but we are being smart with our cap ???
Yes cause not every potential half is going to make it. As I have said before, let them fight it out. Best think ti have strength and depth in the halves, we haven’t had that in like, EVER!!

Think we astonished ourselves that we actually snared Luai(who wld have thought??),
and had we known that we wld have maybe skipped a few signings which at the time just a couple of months ago were totally understandable given the rubbish we trotted out at 6 and 7 this year.
Weve now got an embarrassment of riches in the halves...significantly easier to manage than the alternative!!

Also, good bargaining chip if 1 works out &
the other is either struggling or can't get a run.
Cap will go up each year too. It's a good
position to be in, look at our halves in 2023

Normally I'd agree but in this case not so much. I think Tupou is really average and I don't think he's a loss at all. If Dolphins want him in 2024 I'd let him go. It frees up some cash and a spot in the 30. I reckon we could replace him with someone of at least equal ability now but with a lot of future upside.
Agree
But I suspect Dolphins have done there books and he is not needed till 2025.

Anti social, lots of mistakes, no urgency,
not the halves fault, looks unhappy, he's
an incomplete footballer. Haha the last
3 posts are clueless with all due respect.

Not you @Joelcainenumber1fan lol.
guess we'll sign a busted 30 year old
who's been dropperd to cup for 600k over
the next 3 years. Can't please everybody
Maybe we let him go because we have the most super dooper juniors ever.
Seriously, new coaching group and everything changing at board level...maybe they have a plan.
Also we ran 17th last year so most the players can p.o.

Haha who knows bro, I've said my piece!

His games in the middle of the year showed his potential . His games later in the year set showed how he could be in SL in 3 years . Totally depends on him
Didnt he start the year really well (about 4 weeks)?
I thought he has been poor to shit since then.
Dont remember much in the middle of the year. Toa had a couple of good weeks ....ok was good against the cows at lo

Yep, remember we need 4-5 halves in the squad. Bud is certainly not a given, and Latu is a year or two away. Regardless of Luai’s signing. Also with the cap increase, $500,000 is like $350,000 in the old scale, and $350 for a great junior half with heaps of potential is a good buy in my opinion. Injuries, form, age will all play a factor, so I am happy if we keep all three.

Olam will be a stopgap until one of our kids come through, I doubt we will be throwing money and a lengthy contract at him.

Makes less sense to put Tupou on a long and expensive contract.

Mate .. Olam has three years left on his current contract that the Storm are trying to move on to the Tigers ..you can’t just take him for one year …

Do you want him for three more years ? Blocking those opportunities for the young guys?

is there young good players in the backs ??? all i ever hear about are our young forwards i don't hear about these superstars backs outside off maybe feledy who is apparently a one dimensional player and just runs hard
the young forwards haven't impressed me much either
i dont want olam either there must be better out there

i dont know … but come 2025 I would rather be experimenting with younger players at the club then Olam …

I mean… for example… they just signed that Rugby guy a week or two back … whats the plan with him … ?

Not really any centres with huge expectation coming through anytime soon unless soneone changes position and excels as a centre.

i dunno hopefully not to play 1st grade straight away its weird he got a 1 year deal ?? hes 27 too
it's a weird one
after next season we might only have 1 winger or centre

Seemed like a terrible call for him to be offered a Top 30 position,,,, they must see something though… hope they arent just rolling the dice on him…although it appears that way ..

Staines, Toa, Naden and Nofo all signed through 2025 …. not that is anything great ..
