Junior Tupou #254

Losing Toupu shows how bad a contract to Nofa is now. Imagine having another $100000 of his contract to give. We are stuck for another 2 years with it also. I suppose there is only so much you can give to your wingers and Nofa is taking the best part of it all. Shame.
Maybe . Or the dolphins are struggling to recruit , and have offered overs for just about everyone . And yes I know Flagler and farnworth went across . Both for a lot of money .

What do you mean ? There’s literally Lualiii, Feledy , Large , Mason . Lobb was an Aus schoolboy I think as well and he’s 22.
There’s plenty coming through .
mason a fullback right ? we have that covered
lobb couldnt even get into a dragons team that was on the bottom with us
large is 16?? and lualiii a lock ?
and as i said if u dont like tupou why would u like feledy don't they both have weaknesses with the game?

Heath Mason is predominantly a halve or fullback. From the little I’ve seen him play he looks very good, could be a surprise packet and make his mark quicker than expected, but he’s definitely not built to be a centre.
Lobb may not have forced his way into the Dragons NRL side, but he was constantly one of their better players in their NSW Cup side. He has all the physical attributes to be a very good NRL winger and apparently has the work ethic to help him get there. Very astute signing, but again not a centre.
Feledy is a young powerhouse centre who runs a very good line in attack. Concerned about his lack of genuine speed and not sure about him defensively as far as being the NRL centre we need, but I hope I’m wrong and he gets there quickly.
Luke Laulilli is a chunkily built winger/fullback. No evidence to show he can become an NRL quality centre, but he’s talented so it’s not beyond him.
Onitoni Large plays like a superstar as a centre for his GPS rugby team and for the young Waratahs. From the highlights and few games I’ve managed to watch him play via live stream etc, I could not be more impressed and honestly think he’ll be good enough for NRL within the next 2 years.
He’s always played rugby league as a 5/8 as far as I’m aware, I’m concerned he will have that much demand that playing NRL as a centre may not be real appealing to him. I hope I’m wrong on that as he would likely make a very good NRL centre, particularly while he’s young.
One being a little bit forgotten is Heamasi Makasini who has had a very similar career to Large. He looks a sizeable powerhouse winger with decent speed and athleticism. He actually plays as a centre for Wests Magpies, so could be one to pin our hopes on in a few years time.
Solo Saukuru is apparently impressing during pre season training. He’s a massive unit, if he gets himself fit and he plays with good energy he could become very valuable.
That all being said and done, If Tupou does depart I think we ideally need another centre who can either cement an NRL starting spot or push very hard for it. I’d try getting a swap Jack Bostock for Junior Tupou to hopefully get something out of it.

A great summary, especially Heamasi Makasini who has played outside Onitoni Large in their rep. games as a centre or winger in GPS and rarely gets a mention - same age but bigger. And now Solo Saukuru finally taking his fitness to the next level is most encouraging.

Backs..Lots of unproven kids... a couple of physical specimens like Lobb and the Rugby bloke(at 27!)....but nobody looking ready to step up in 25 let alone 24.
Remain unconvinced about Feledy..seems a stereotype schoolboy star who lacks the attributes to go up a couple of levels, which he needs to do
All speccies
Nofas immediate future will crystalize our plans(and funding),but once the halves are resolved we need quality outside backs sooner rather than later

we probley need someone who can run straight and hard at centre if his defense is bad it suits the tigers :p

Get a swap deal for someone of use to us moving forward.
I’d try Jack Bostock, he will be left out of their full strength starting line up and might be ready for a shift back to NSW.

20 yes old and 4 NRL games …

no thanks … would rather have Topou in 24

Bostock is a very good young player - former Aust Schools rep centre/winger - tall, big and fast and from the Wollongong area, not a Qld. I'd swap them to bring him into our system with potential to fill a centre position.

Bye Junior. Thanks for the memories.

To be fair, he might do well up there. Isaako has gone to the next level under Bennett.

Onward and upward. Another spot to fill.

I don’t think it’s a good look for Junior Tupou to be sharing all the Insta stories congratulating him on his Dolphins signing for ‘25, especially some with messages in them like ‘seen the light’. But that’s just me.

I thought managers were meant to advise their clients on image & relationship management, not just secure them $$$.
