I don't really like Flanagan (and I admit I dont actually know the facts) but I feel he gets a disproportionate amount of blame for the peptides scandal.Scumbag who put results above the health of his players. One good thing has come out of him returning to coaching though. No more of his droning in the commentary box. He’s as boring as bat shit.
The way it was reported if I recall correctly is he let Dank control the (illegal) supplements program. I don't think this would be too different to what any other coach would do. They would put faith in the bloke qualified to run that program because I guarantee no NRL coach would be qualified to do so themselves. He was made aware that something dodgy was going on and shut down the program and Dank was dismissed early.
So to this point it Flanagan's only fault is not directly overseeing a program that he would not be qualified to have any input in. Then he actually done the right thing in stopping it.
It could be argued that he should have reported that something untoward had happened to higher ups at both the club and NRL. But given he had already stopped the program what really is to be gained by doing so?
I agree with criticism for not complying with the stipulations of his ban. I also feel he was largely responsible for cap breaches at Cronulla and have just found him generally unlikeable in his media roles.
