Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Here are a few highlights. He's an exceptional talent and one of our young players I am excited about. Every now and then a player with the athletic ability, attitude, fitness, technique and skills comes through our ranks. Pole was one and indications are Fa'agutu is as well.

Bit off topic. Not that I have ever put much stock into Kemp, but he lost all credibility when he was talking about where Luai would end up back in November. Talked about it five mins in a clip I watched and hypothesised which clubs he could wind up at. Not once did he or any of the other numb skulls he has there mentioned us.

70% of his tries are in super league.
I know, but he was scoring at the same clip in the NRL though. I hope he comes back and proves a few wrong at some stage. Alex Johnson is no star defender and he’s a career try scorer with all time records in his sights.

I’m still a bit shocked he came to us. It takes balls to go from the top to the bottom. Who was the last, K Ponga?

There’s a difference between cover and quality cover. If we’re being truthful with ourselves 3 of those 4 names aren’t quality NRL wingers.

. Lobb is a junior who hasn’t played a game of NRL.

. Alaimalo is a rugby union player who hasn’t played a game of NRL.

. Naden has talent but if we’re being realistic what he has shown lately is he’s a journeyman and couldn’t crack into a wooden spoon side. Haven’t given up on him however. I also consider him more a centre.

Staines I’ll give you.

Nofa leaving and the pending departure of Tupou we definitely need at least one more winger. Was told Fox is still quietly being shopped around. I wouldn’t be against it tbh. Taylan May another option.
Ted, my words were; we may have a little more cover than it might appear.

A little more cover.

I said nothing about the quality of the options or their experience, I simply said that, despite nofo leaving, we may not immediately need a winger as a replacement as we do have options there within the squad.

You're jumping at shadows there, mate.

I think it’s interesting people saying we are ok and banking on 2 untested & 1 yoyo player.

We came last we need NRL players.
They may turn out to be NRL players but banking on them is high risk. We have all seen this over and over again before.

Naden also hasn’t been NRL week in week out quality yet in his career. So banking on him is high risk if we want to play finals.
This is a key point. Apart from Api, Bula, Papali’i and Bateman, how many of our guys have shown the ability to be consistently great in first grade? Just showing up and filling out a jersey doesn’t get you wins.

It’s why nobody’s taking the $100 on offer for us to win the comp.

I’ll take $150!

There’s got to be progress this year, surely?!

A third spoon would defy all known laws of the game.

Incorrect.
What's ridiculous is trying to compare stats across different competitions. You can only compare like things, so tries scored in the NRL is the only stat that matters.

The original post tried to suggest both players had scored the same number of tries, which is incredibly deceiving.

Sure a tries per game in the NRL would even be a better stat, if someone can be bothered to do the maths.
French would be ahead of Noffa and close to Johnson on tries per game in the NRL. Probably top 10-20 all time across first 40 career starts. He was better than people are giving him credit for and has shone in SL.

Spot on. Top 6 sides, who we need to catch, have very few weaknesses in the NRL. Pretty easy to spot them in our roster as it stands and our best hope is a whole bunch of kids come good at once. Rare. I trust the brains trust (now we have one) are working on it.

Fox wouldn’t be a bad shout if the dogs decided to make room for both brothers.
I have a sneaky feeling Taylan will stay at Penrith and Terrell will be recruited to replace Leniu. Some of the players have already mentioned that they feel that Leniu will be hard to replace. Maybe Terrell might be acquired for that reason.
