Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Early tip for round 2... Seyfarth will be our starting 13. Heighno & Robbie love him & Benji trying to mould him into a Yeo type.
Keeping it warm for Galvin I reckon - still think he's our future 13 with his size and ball playing ability/vision. I'd prefer him in the middle at 13 than on the edge personally as I'd like him as a first receiver similar to Yeo getting it straight from Api and depending on what side either Fainu and Luai being at 2nd receiver I think it could be dangerous moving forward. Bula roaming around too won't hurt. Would be a pretty good formula.

He's also just a natural footballer so I don't think him making tackles in the middle would effect him as much especially with a lot of cover defense too. You could make the argument it's probably more difficult tackling on the edge than in the middle as plays will be set to have the opposing edge forward 1 on 1 with the halfback quite often. Brooks to his credit was actually quite good in that regard. He's also 18 so wouldn't be too difficult molding him into that type of player.

Might be unpopular but I also don't see the hype in Seyfarth - he has played a lot more bad games than he has good. He probably gives it 110% in training and is likeable around the squad which I respect. However, in terms of what he has shown in the 50 NRL games he has played maybe 4-5 games where he has been solid. I hope I'm proven wrong and he's a regular first grader as I’m not rooting against him but at this point I don't see it. Especially if we have top 8 aspirations.

There's really no harm giving him a chance, I think pole provides more impact as a bench foward. There's like 3 juniors that have a mortgage on the 12 jersey, may as well try and strike gold in the meantime. Said it before reckon seyfarth is the type of player that improves marginally every year until his body gives up. He will leave everything out on the field and if you put some time in with him you will get a very solid first grader.
What I have seen of his ball playing hasn't been terrible
His ball playing was even better in NSW Cup last season when given that role.
Even if we use him as our starting 13 and sub him with either Doueihi when he returns or the emerging Galvin which would give us a 13 with a bit more attacking flair at some stages of the game.
Both Doueihi and Galvin could be very effective 14’s with their versatility and ability to slice open an opposing defence.

I agree on Galvin.
Don’t agree with you regarding Seyfarth. Take into consideration he’s a big lad who really didn’t grow into his body and toughen up to use his body size effectively until last season, so he’s a different player now than he was prior to the 2023 season.

Kind of annoyed me that we made room in our squad for Seyfarth but not Blore. Time will tell if it’s the right decision or not like you i’m obviously rooting for the guy but he’s spent a few years in first grade now & just hasn’t shown what it takes to be a mainstay at this level imo

He looks to have trimmed down abit.

If he plays like he did for the 4-6 week stint last year then all for it even more so if it means Pole goes back to prop (his best position IMO).
Seyfarth's never been unfit or overweight!

His problem has been that his rangy frame has sometimes resembled a clumsy long-limbed puppy still growing into its body.

He's a late developer in that sense - but when he does get his core strength right and a greater awareness of his centre of gravity he will be a high quality first grader!

The difference in the reported contract values re Blore v Seyfarth may have been a factor. Blore signed for the Storm from 25. It may have been we did not increase our offer or he simply wanted a new start. We gained Olam which I believe is a great outcome. Seyfarth played well when he was allowed to play to his strengths.

A scan of his ticker might be a better indicator.
I had to laugh as I can’t disagree with that comment.
In saying that I do believe his natural talent is often under rated.
He’s been luckless in doing his ACL three times, I’m prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he’s matured enough to realise he can no longer pick and choose what position he plays, he’s simply got to toughen up and earn his position each and every week.

I thought the back half of last year he was our most improved player, prior to that I was never a fan. Hopefully his progress continues

My understanding we had room and offered a contract but he chose storm. If he was contracted for 25 here I don’t think he would of been swapped with olam

I see the vision with Galvin but the kid does his best work on the edges. I have seen him demoralise the fourth and third man time and time and time again and rarely does he ever take the wrong option.

to put him in the middle takes away his best asset, forces him to make double the tackles and blocks Laulili’i’s path. I like your thinking but ultimately I think the left edge is his spot. whether it’s at 6 or 12 is up to our coaching staff.

Firstly what hype? Seyfarth has zero hype about him.

Secpndly, I question your definition of "solid". If Seyfarth has played 50 games, he has been solid in at least 40. Solid is exactly what he has provided, now he may get the chance to actually play how he is supposed to.

People need to be careful about this obsession with ball playing locks when it comes to converting halves into the role. If you have a look at all the big games, semi finals, grand finals and Origins, the influence of the lock link man is very minimal. They are great in helping you win enough games to get to the finals, but once the speed of the game goes up a notch, they don't have the time to have that influence. So it's important that the 13 can then adapt and play hard and tough. That's what Murray and Yeo do well. Big ask for a young 5/8 to do that.
