Jahream Bula #269

Greg Inglis has been spotted wearing Wests Tigers gear at the club’s Concord headquarters over the weekend.

The former South Sydney captain, who hasn’t held an official role with the Rabbitohs since 2020, has been brought into the fold at the Tigers as a mentor to boom fullback Jahream Bula.

The club insists Inglis has not accepted a role with the club’s coaching staff or been brought in to help the football department, but rather as a confidant to the young fullback.

Inglis has been tasked with assisting Bula off the field as he deals with the adjustment and pressure of going from a relative unknown to a rugby league star within 12 months.

Inglis watched on at training over the weekend, sporting the black and gold for the first time. He’s expected to continue working with Bula, who recently signed a $2.7 million-$2.8 million extension to stay at the Tigers until the end of 2027. The final year of his deal is a mutual option. If Bula takes up the option he is guaranteed $800,000 in 2027, but if the club takes up the option it will be for $900,000.

Inglis is managed by Rich Digital, the company part-owned by new Wests Tigers chief executive Shane Richardson alongside his son, Brent.

Richardson was responsible for luring Inglis to South Sydney from the Melbourne Storm ahead of the 2011 season, and has formed a tight bond with him.

The Tigers boss is also involved in Inglis’ Goanna Academy – a program aimed at improving mental health for vulnerable groups across Indigenous communities.

Bula is a special player. Glad that the club are putting good people around him. He has the potential to be the face of the club in only a year's time, similar to how Reece Walsh became the face of the Broncos in only a year.
The fact Walsh is a pretty boy has just as much to do with his marketability than how he is as a player. Its a powerful combo.

As good as he, he doesn’t have Walsh’s explosiveness.

Hope this is not a sign that Bula is struggling mentally being an NRL player...

Well he’s just inked a big deal, announced his engagement and played Test footy so I wouldn’t be surprised if his head is spinning. I’m not sure that GI is a great role model in these things but they are both Indigenous so maybe Richo and Benji felt it may help.
I wrote a while back that I hope Bula doesn’t suffer what I call “second season syndrome” where the gloss wears off a bit due to things like I’ve mentioned above plus other clubs having a better fix on his game strategy.
Only time will tell but I wish him well. Just play your natural game as much as possible.

Richos company probably gets a benefit from this too. But I don't care, I think it's a great addition. More winners around the club, the better.

Benji went off the rails a bit himself when he became successful so quickly. This may be a lessons learned situation. Its great to help jaream navigate the next few years, not just as an emerging fb, but as a person.

it is not....

How the %$@# would anyone draw that conclusion??

He got engaged over the Xmas break after signing an extension with the club - and is about to go into his 2nd season after being a train and triallist just over 12 months ago!

He is not a kid from a remote Island village who is getting used to the big smoke - or a big headed flog party-boy like Reece Walsh!

Such a bizarre comment!

You need to meet Jahream...

He would have been better suited keeping Inglis on the straight and narrow at a similar age than the opposite!

And Benji NEVER "went off the rails a bit"...!

That is revisionist tripe!

He had that one media incident where the flog provoked him at Maccas at the Rocks and falsely accused him of assault... what else???

Benji was not at all intoxicated or in the wrong - and it was thrown out of court!

Inglis is just there to provide some football related mentoring for a kid who could be anything!

Billy was calling 4 this last year (1:01), good move

It's the way it should be....
Often hear Billy Credit Robbie Ross for helping him into grade...

If it had been done with all the talented Spine Players we had coming through the last 15 years,
Maybe they'd still be here and we'd have had a better run.

Tedesco didn't get it, Brooks and Moses didn't get it....
Imagine a poor 18yr old Teddy having to pick the Brains of Moltzen on FB play
those first few years....

I get it all, but no offence but what is Inglis really going to teach anyone? Not the most articulate individual, doesn’t even know what state he was born in!
Had a good laugh at your response.

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of getting Greg Inglis in to help Jaream with whatever it is that he can help him with, whether it's his positional play, keeping him grounded or whatever.

I'm sure whatever it is it can't hurt and as I have mentioned elsewhere, this has got Richo's finger prints all over it, as do so many other things that are currently happening around the club.

The other thing I have to laugh about is what a bunch of hypocrites we are, and I include myself when I say this.

Not only have we criticised "The Goanna" in the past over his State allegiances, dodgy contracts/power boats, domestic violence charges, drink driving etc. but now that he is involved with us, all is forgiven, what a great bloke.

Of course it doesn't end there because maybe I'm not the only one that didn't have much time for Richo in the past because of his long association with my most hated club Souffs, but now that he is associated with us he is the best thing that has ever happened here.

Funny how things can change.

Best thing ever - Get them all in....

A young humble kid with absolute champions of the game giving him time,
Can only be a good thing for him...

Would give any kid a real shot in the arm on enthusiasm alone...

All for it! But why don’t we get a halves coach in?? We/they need guidance, especially this seasons to young halves coming through. Matty John’s would be perfect but his dumbass brother would do. Our long kicking game needs work and they would see that!
The thing the other day that I was surprised when bula said he didn’t know his peed times. Can that be true that our guys aren’t getting timed on the speed?? Also we need all the help we can get, what about a sprint coach.
Sprint training is very important. There is usually a concentration on the first 20 meters. Times are recorded and compared.

Nothing forgiven by me. Can’t polish a turd.

mate... you don't remember him getting axed as NZ captain, moving to Rugby Union, and admitting that he was getting lazy, overweight and had a big head? You mustn't have watched enough of him.

You're just framing off the rails in a different way. I mean it in that he just had personal hiccups that stopped him from reaching his ceiling.

p.s. Maybe go take a Xanax.

World Cup and premiership winning playmaker, 300 gamer, idolised by kids all over two countries. All for a skinny, injury prone touch footy player with a strange side step. I don’t think he missed that ceiling by much.

He did own that period where he went to rugby too which only adds to his legend in my opinion. He squeezed every drop from his talents in my opinion, it’s just a shame his injuries between 2006-2009 cost the Tigers a much more competitive era.
