Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

It's not likely he'll be at the Tigers no matter what the price. Going from the 2nd bottom team to the bottom team is hardly a career defining move for someone who can stay and earn $800K or who has options to go to Easts or even Parramatta who'll both be in the semi finals this year.

Supposedly the Chooks have entered the chat to sign Lomax.
Tigers to exit stage left...
Well that should put this possible signing to bed. Danny Wezzel will be telling us how Lomax sacrifices 400g a year to play under Robbo.

Really would not be upset, if the Dragons are happy to move him you have to ask questions. Of course in saying that our outside backs ate A for average

Yeah two weeks ago the Rorters took Lomax to dinner (not sure of any brown paper bags been handed over under the table) to entice Lomax to the Chooks .. one stumbling block is that Lomax's ex girlfriend Jess Stergis plays for the Chooks .. and now dating ex Tiger Tommy Talua.

Geez a lot changed from last night where he was a sure thing

Exactly right.
I can see the Roosters or Eels somehow finding the cap space to pay him his 800k contract value should he somehow get the Dragons to release him.
So even if we entered the race, why would he want to join the Wests Tigers if he could potentially join the Roosters or Eels for the same contract value ?
This is the realistic problem we face at the moment, hence the big emphasis on trying to develop our own juniors and recruiting young talent before they have reached their potential.
Not forgetting it could be very different in a few years time if we can build and become a highly competitive team.

Do we agree with Flanno’s assessment of Lomax?
If the figures indicate he only just cracks the top 25 centres in the game, how much is he really worth?

Flanno has a habit of filling his squad with players someone else is paying for
(Has already started a the Dragons)
I think it's a combination of Attitude, Form - But it's the Price tag that has Flanno wanting to move him on.

He's better than what we've got, But not that much better - He could be, But he isn't at the moment
And hasn't been for some time....

I said it previously here, I wouldn't have him at any money - For any reason....
Whatever inside him tells him it's OK to go on National TV and Sh*t on his coach like he did
- Is still there....

That's not the kind of human "Man" you need around the joint at a struggling club - With Rookie Coaches
Like Ours.....
He'll need to go play for Bennett or Bellamy to get the attitude shift he requires...

So we can sign players from the Panthers , Parra and Manly, but not the mighty mighty Dragons? How do you work that out?

…but we have Benji
It wouldn’t matter if we had Jesus coaching us, why would any player choose us ahead of a club full of high profile players and genuine title contenders ?
It’s just not realistic to believe a player would choose us for the same contract value when they have better options.
For the record I don’t believe Flanno will be letting Lomax go anytime soon. He will see how this season plays out and if they have another poor season with Lomax not performing how he would like, only then he might consider releasing Lomax and spending the 800k on someone else.

I would argue the Roosters are not so attractive. Firstly it's doubtful they fit him in this year with their all star line-up.

Next year they lose Sualii and Manu, Teddy, Toupou and Keary near retirement, they are close to needing a total rebuild.

Then there's Parra who may be an attractive option, but o doubt they are paying $800k with guys like Moses, Brown, Paulo and Gutho all on big $.

I don't get how we can sign Luai but Lomax is apparently too good for us?

I think the chooks will pay him, they are coming towards the end of an era and outside backs will look real thin as of next year. Trouble for them will be if the drags wanna flick him this year, not sure how they Roosters would accommodate him.
I think Lomax is low hanging fruit for Flanno coming in and he'll be a scape goat for the whole underperforming team, he's a good player who has struggled for form in a team that has really been as bad as ours for a similar period of time.

From an article in 2020:

As a kid there was one man St George Illawarra Dragons young gun Zac Lomax hero worshipped above all else.

Lying in bed, his idol stared at him from framed photos given to him for his birthday and he would pretend he was the West Tigers gun when in the backyard playing footy with his brother.

But Lomax, 20, has now revealed when he finally got to face off against Tigers star Benji Marshall for the first time last season, he couldn’t remember a single thing about the encounter. And still doesn’t.

The Wollongong-based Lomax said as a kid he tried to model himself on Marshall, co-captain of the Tigers and the second most capped player at the club.

”I had liked him forever. I have photo frames of him that were birthday presents still in my room at home,’’ said Lomax
