Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

And Lamb was shuffled on from Wests Tigers especially after that centrefold spread. After we beat Parramatta and Canterbury in the opening rounds of the season... we were like a plane in the air running out of fuel

I agree with you whole heartedly. I dont know as much as football as you fellow forumers, I was just thinking spreading the money out. Also Sezer is a great point. He kick direct a team around the park. Who else do we have or signed for next year that can?
I think the best plan is give Galvin as much game time as possible this year, we'll see if he's good or not. We can't judge him on his first few games being excellent. Even if we are losing, how he performs should be noted. That way, instead of throwing out the big money offer straight away, we know if we should upgrade him or not. Also, Fainu is on 500K so he will stay for a year or 2 at least. If Galvin needs more time, I wouldn't be against having a Sezer/Luai combination to start next year. Fainu/Sullivan can find other positions in the team for 2024

That's what we're finding out this season. Sezer will most likely be gone by 2027 at the latest. It gives us a year or 2 to sort out who will be the long kicker and game manager. Sullivan definitely isn't. Fainu looks good as a 7. Galvin's favourite player being Munster and his love for 6 means he's probably going to be the 5/8. Luai can kick long but he hasn't consistently kicked in the NRL because of Cleary. It's a risk either way. But we have options, lots of options.

Listen, it's obviously not ideal, but here's a second question.

Everyone is saying what not to do, but the same people will be saying how we should have tried harder to keep all 3 if they are playing out of their skins and one leaves because we keep carrying one on the bench.

In that situation, what is the answer?

The Luai at 13 suggestion is based on 2027 or onwards. Not next year or the year after and depending on how Latu and Galvin develop.

I'm not even advocating for Luai at 13. Simply saying if you are going to try and move one of the halves to another position over time, then Luai fits lock better than Galvin and Fainu. It COULD be a solution depending on the landscape at the time.

Secondly, watching Latu on the weekend, it's clear he is 1 or 2 years off. Now we are looking at an ageing Luai, Galvin with 2-3 years under his belt and Latu with 50 games experience around 2027 or 2028 season. At that stage, Luai might be happy to shift depending on form.

All this is a wait and see, but I don't think you can keep carrying a spare half on the bench because you don't want to lose them. You have to give them a path to full-time first grade and a position they can specialise in for the long term.
I'd prefer to see Luai at centre or fullback before lock any day of the week. At the moment he's a decent defender, but his play style is jumping around and lock would be a bad fit

It’s more how much we are over spending on the Salary Cap on some players who are unlikely to be in our top 17 that’s the problem.
If you over spend on certain positions, it doesn’t leave enough cap space to fill other positions with quality players.
As in Bateman.

All this talk about Galvin as a 13... if Galvin wants to play 6 he will play 6 at wests tigers or another nrl club. If he doesn't want to play 13 and we pressure him to play there then he won't be a tiger. They say players shouldn't demand where they should play but when you have Galvin's talent he gets to call where he wants to play.
If Galvin keeps firing it may be fainu and Sullivan that are no longer here in years to come.

Galvin will have the last say. Or Moses. Moses needs a quick buck also. Rent becoming unaffordable. Even the Roosters players selling their houses. What does Uncle Nick know that we don't.

I think it's a case of wait and see. I'd be willing to give him more games in the 6 this year as well as seeing Fainu in the 6 to see who goes better. Sezer is good. I'm sure Richo and Benji aren't inept enough to keep Sullivan before losing Galvin. Unlike others, I think there is a way to manage the team with Fainu, Galvin, Sezer, and Luai next year. I think Sullivan is the odd man out

That’s all true, but of the players we are talking about here, the halves - Luai, Galvin, Latu, Sezer, Sullivan (I’m not considering AD as i don’t expect him to be here). Obviously Luai is on big money (a choice we made for numerous reasons) and Sullivan is on medium money. Sullivan is the only one I’m not happy about and that concerns me. The others are on little money and it’s early days, who knows what positions they end up in or how they fit into our future. I am not at all worried about them, more about finding the right guys to fill the glaring gaps we have in our squad.

Yep that's all true. I think it's a good thing that the biggest talking point is how we fit our halves in rather than poor performances. We can still make 1 or 2 big signings during the next off season I think. A good winger or forward
