English Super League Potentials

George Delaney at St Helens is one with a big future ahead of him, the kid is class.

20 years old, prop forward whos playing big minutes due to Saints injury problems in the pack. He's just put in another quality performance tonight.

He's heavily linked with Souths but Saints want to tie him down to a long term contract.

Guys like Bateman? Our problem has been that players are asking for a pain and suffering loading. However if Richo can find better examples than Bateman, it would make room in the cap to strengthen the spine, which is already underway. We have the 9,7,6(?),1(?). We are desperate for a 13, there’s no point in throwing good money at an average 13, he needs to be a game breaker like Luai and Api.
I see our gaps a little differently.

1. We need centres and wingers who do the basics. Strong carries and quick PTB on plays 0-2 to build more momentum in our attack, chase kicks hard, contest high kicks, and finish tries off. Our major problem! These are just simple tasks and should be able to be done without paying the world.

2. We obviously need back row depth. A strong ball carrier who makes his tackles. Someone who can run over a smaller bloke when given an opportunity close to the try line. I’m talking more about a toiler, not necessarily a Koloamatangi who would cost heaps.

3. I think our spine next year is great, maybe a lock becomes a little less important. Pole shows enough talent for a young bloke to persist with. Benji should be able to coach this guy.

4. On Bateman, he’s one of those proven rep players who plays well in a good team. In our team, he tries to do too much and make up for all the other player’s deficiencies which leads to making silly mistakes and getting hot under the collar. We need to build a squad that know their role and don’t f;(k it up. See ya Naden 👋

I listened to a podcast Richo was on at the start of the year and he offered an interesting view on building a roster, talking a lot about the foot soldiers. The theory he had was the guys on not much money who you need to do a solid job each week. I reckon maybe that’s what he’s looking for in England. Guys who would rather be home in Aus but aren’t looking for a big pay check. When you think about it our elite players are being made to look poor year after year, I really think it’s those guys 10-20 in the roster who need to play at consistent FG level to help the prospective rep guys to shine.

Be interesting to see who he targets.
And that’s why I get pissed off when certain players come in the market but we never go near them eg: Curran , Mann , salmon , king , and there’s many more in teams that u wouldn’t think would take them . But they bust there arse every week unlike like our lazy lot

Our former management were obsessed with a big fish signing to save their bacon. It got to a point where we were just taking discards.

These types or signings will make of break Benji’s coaching career. Players who want opportunity not big coin.

I think they have too many young unproven guys in The Top 30 … as we see during this wooden spoon run … they have zero depth beyond the 17 when they cop inevitable injuries and suspensions …

they need more experience in the 15- 25 ranked guys in the squad … not the young guys currently there whom Benji appears very reluctant to pick until he is forced too..

They should have 5 young guys in the Top 30 … not a dozen

No doubt.

Oops, I was going way off track, thought the main point of your post was how Richo would start a rebuild. I thought it was a good idea to collect journeymen to give a relative consistent performance, while holding onto the cap space for any of the 5 spine?

With us it seems the old adage that you’re only as good as your weakest link is proving true. We carry a few poor/dumb/ill-disciplined players each week who invariably get found out and make errors or defend poorly and it costs us heavily.

Pommy backs are generally useless and don't aim up in the NRL.

I think the only one recently is Dom Young and he was a kid.

Definitely think he’ll be aiming for budget pick ups who can add value in first grade. I just think positions of need are outside backs and second row, plus some depth players.

As it stands Jerome Luai won’t change results a whole heap imo. Needs more help.

The other Knights winger a few years wasn't bad... Tho think he's an irishman
But yiure right forwards are the way to go with england

The dumbest wrap I’ve ever seen on an English player coming here is he is the next Billy Slater - Sam Tomkins. He was so shit

George Williams
Brodie croft
kavarn Rothwell
alex Walmsley
Mike mckeeken
Matty ashton
Tommy makinson
Harry newman
Chris Hill
Bevan french
Morgan Knowles (i forgot about him, he is perfect for our team)
Matty lees
Mikolaj Oledzki
Jack Welsby
Mikey Lewis
Ash handley
Toby king.
Wardle bro's

All these guys are gangsta, but some are not suitable.

knowles, lees, newman, Wardles, Ashton, rothwell, Oledzki, would be great pickups
I think McMeekan would go well over here. Big, tough. I'd be happy to give Oledzki a try as well.

Herbie Farnworh is an exception, but he was in OZ from a fairly early age?? We need another Ellery Hanley.
