LIVE GAME Round 14 vs. Dragons

Live Game Discussion
We must be watching different players.

Seyfarth was the only guy still trying at the end.

The rest were putrid
He's a tryer for sure.
That should be a given for every player. I don't give credit for that, he still has to perform to an NRL standard that he just isn't capable of.
Watch his attempt to stop Luciano. That is not an acceptable skill level for a first grade player.

Stef was absolutely putrid last night. Arm grabbing, added no starch in defence and just got manhandled in hit-ups. Give you a guess why you didn't get picked for origin mate. Definitely one of his more insipid performances

What u think Richo done the wrong thing , the score board tells u way he’s doing it , Sullivan was one of those been offered and I think he was one of our best last night , he has contacts in the uk , better been face to face with clubs and players when ur trying to sell and buy players . I respect ur post but I think ur on the wrong road
Sullivan? He was shit. Gave the escort penalty. Got binned for 10 minutes for stupidity. Wanted to be a constant smart ass which you can only do if your winning.

Why on earth after we had success with Lobb early, did we not keep peppering that wing with high kicks? There was a clear size mismatch.

All these calls to sack Benji is not the right path I honestly believe we are better than last year even if the stat's don't show it.
Can you elaborate on this please?
What makes this team better?
If we can’t use stats or results to prove it, what can we use?

Do you know what one of my most enjoyable seasons as a supporter ever was? The year 2000. Might sound strange as we didn’t even play finals. But it was enjoyable for one reason. The two years previous, I had supported the Magpies, who only won 6 or 7 games combined for those two years and 99 in particular, had cricket scores put on them every week. Then the JV formed, and we signed a ton of established first graders. And guess what, we actually won a few games. We were even sitting second at the midway point of the season. We fell off the map over the second half of the season, but still, we actually won a few games, which was a breath of fresh air for most of us. We’re now on our 3rd season of winning less than 6 games, and no real signs of it improving anytime soon. I know some think the rest of us are whining unjustly, but we aren’t asking for the world. We aren’t demanding a premiership, or even a top 8 finish. We just want to watch our team win a few games.
100%. For example at the start of the year I would have been happy with about 6 wins and 14th or 15th place. Something to build on. At the moment I can't see where the next win comes from. Could end up less wins than last year... Where does the club go from here?

Bateman and Papallii's defence was overlooked by many on here a few weeks back. Both consistently averaging 35/ 40 plus tackles. If you think that they are not a massive loss you may think differently now. Mighten have been game winners but both workers that can't be easily replaced within this squad.
This is correct

This is exactly what you get when your CEO is over in the UK actively trying to offload players. How can we expect them to put in when they know that is happening? We have had Simpkin and Ice both either sign or go recently as well. Unfortunately the season is done but we are going to cause our young blokes a lot of damage in the mean time. You hear people say it’s good for you down the track but I don’t think it is. You play in a team like this and you develop bad habits and you become part of the culture and this is our never ending cycle. Also want to question API as captain. He is absolutely an all effort player, love him. But he comes across very chilled and we need lead a leader who is hard nosed. On field discipline like that needs a skipper who sprays blokes.
100%.
I said most of this recently and got laughed at.
I’m predicting not only the spoon this year, but possibly next as well.
Forwards are our problem.
Klem is declining, Api is overused and becoming ineffective, Steph doesn’t want to be here, Bateman and Seyfarth are frustrated and penalty magnets, Twal is still plodding, Ice is gone, Fainu is raw as hell, Matamua is not working out, Pole is stagnating….those who are to replace or add to them are years away from being helpful.
We’re in big trouble with the pack.

Sullivan suffers from the brooks curse. Can actually play but can't organize a team, just a 5/8 masquerading as a 7. we don't want another brooks. off to pommyland with him.

Nursing a self induced headache this morning trying to understand how things turned terribly wrong in the 2nd half....
For the 1st time I am not blaming a referee's bad call as the turning point.
We started like a house on fire, then or mistakes let them back in but we stayed in the game.
The 2nd half i would look at what was in the half time drinks.
We were an inexperienced team and that showed.
Big Stef he can take himself and go to another team and get his big pay check he has not stood up to deserve that big pay day.
For that money we need a game changing forward not a cream puff.
My conclusion yes we got smashed, but the team on the field was no where near our best 17. So I am not going to slashing my wrists.
Yes we are not going to be playing finals this year , if we can clean out the crap this year next year has to be better.

Yep - if I could detach myself from this club I would because there is no joy in it for me at the moment, and at the same time I would devo if they weren't around.
I get defensive when we get bagged in the media because they never consider the impact on the fans of this club and how depressing the constant disappointment from year to year has on all the many that just want some hope that this season things may be different. The constant media barrage just reinforces what we already know and are experiencing. It takes me great mental strength to stop it ruining my whole weekend.
I wasnt expecting anything than a bottom 4 finish this season based on the squad, let alone Benji's lack of experience, but it doesn't make the reality any easy to cope with - and still have weeks of pain ahead
Why does it always have to be next year !! When is it ever going to be this year,

The key part of your post was they signed a ton of established first graders.

Surprisingly it helps win first grade matches

It should be the clubs motto. Always planning ahead and doing nothing about what’s happening now. 2 years ago, this was going to be our year. Now it’s 25 and 26. Won’t be long before we start hearing how we’ll be contenders in 2030

I think you have described the experience of supporting this club perfectly in your post.

Like an idiot, I was so agitated by our performance last night that I was still awake at 3am.

At this point, it isn’t the lack of talent or the inexperience that makes it hard - it is the endless unforced errors, lack of discipline and poor fundamentals which never seem to improve.

We are easily the most downtrodden fanbase in the game and continue to try and support a “professional” rugby league club that relentlessly suck at the very thing they exist to do.

10 wins in the past 63 games and no finals since 2011. That takes dedication in a salary cap competition.

If I was married to this club I would have got divorced 10 years ago after giving them some time to come good again after 2010/2011.
On the other hand, the Swans are flying and my boy loves them too. Might be curtains for Tito with the Tigers. The club has to fold. Why would any aspiring juniors want to be with us. Pathetic shit club.
