Galvin given a rest as the club tries to keep him at Concord with a fresh deal. - SMH piece.

“The Wests Tigers have promised to extend the contract of boom teenager Lachlan Galvin beyond 2026 if he decides to drop a request for an immediate release from the NRL strugglers.“

That has to be the most bizarre sentence I have ever read. He doesn’t wanna be here, he wants a release, so the club‘s response is “if you promise to stop asking for a release, we will sign you for longer”.

Lol what?

It's about money - currently he is signed for 3 years on a good deal financially for us, he wants a release to sign a new deal reflecting his nrl future star status. We hold the cards because we can pay him more for the next 2.5 yrs or not but no one else can - for that we meet part way and pay him more but in return we get to extend out another year or 2 at the new rate.

I look forward to how it’s spun if we upgrade and extend him.

It's still pretty bizarre.

"I want out"
"ok we will lock you down for another year or two, sign here".

But seeing through this. Issac Moses I reckon doesn't rate Galvin. Seriously if Moses thought Galvin was the next Nathan Cleary or something he would never let his player get locked down.

He would keep him open to accept the crazy 1.2 or 1.5m deal the NRL would have to offer. Instead we see Moses wanting to lock up Galvin and pushing Galvin to do a long term commitment deal here.

Not saying Galvin is or isn't a good player. I am saying Moses is getting is player trapped here so he can make the most money out of him.

Cash is king.

We should’ve extended him after his first game

He was always going to be upset that Latu and sullivan were on higher deals

If this is true and we just made an offer now we’re idiots.

Now we’re gonna have to pay overs to
Extend bc he’s not happy
Here anymore

Would’ve extended him when he was in love with Benji

I reckon there’s a 50% chance he won’t extend even if money is great now

If it said they were going to extend him with a hefty upgrade I’d understand it, which is what I’m sure the club means. But it’s worded so stupidly.

Even if that’s the case, it doesn’t mean his mind can’t be changed down the line. The club still has time.

I wonder if the Galvin push from family & management (Moses) is actually trying to dictate the Tigers future options in many ways.

As we have already noted- the club is LOADED at the halves going forward- Luai, Galvin, Fainu, Sullivan along with future players in Large & potentially keeping Sezar around.

Luai isn't going to miss out. Does locking Galvin into a commitment from the Tigers force the hand of putting him ahead of Fainu on the pecking order? Is this a pre-emptive strike before Fainu gets exposed to 1st grade?

Yep he will want Bud money now $ 500 k min per season and over probably 4 years

If we can get rid of Sullivan, it won't matter if he's upgraded. It's a like for like swap on the cap.

We will have some wiggle room anyway with some players not being re-signed and perhaps some releases. Not ideal, but not the end of the world either. The kid is worth it.

If the noise around Brandon Smith/Roosters has any legs, He would be a great pickup for lock/hooker rotation like he played at Melbourne.
