Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Richardson will know better than any poster on the forum the value of a player. The market ultimately determines player value not what we believe he is worth, similar to the housing market in Sydney. This is the reality of the NRL allowing Redcliffe into the NRL and not requiring the Roosters, Storm and quite a few other NRL clubs to have viable junior districts to produce local juniors, not players bused in from other areas. There is a shortage of players which will only be addressed with all clubs required to produce local juniors. I would imagine a Perth team would quickly have a larger junior base than the Roosters and Storm. Brad Arthur is apparently being interviewed for the role if Perth is successful.

I really struggle to see what makes Stef a $1 million dollar player or an 800k player or a 600k player.

He averages 10 hit ups for 112 metres at 95.7 tackle efficiency.

Lawn mower man Oshay Olay, Josh Aloia averages11.2 hit ups for 114 metres at 95.8 tackle efficiency.

Are we offering lawn mower man 1 million?
Unfortunately its all about demand and supply. Props are having their day in the sun.

We will see just how badly WT want to retain Stef. They shouldn't budge from $800k per season. At the moment its over but I believe he will become a better player as he ages.

It’s about what people anticipate him doing in a team that has more possession, more momentum, more field position, less fatigue, more balance etc etc etc

Environment matters.

So can the fat headed dumb arse not see that is the very direction we are heading here.

I realise that I may be a poor judge, but gee I think $800k is an extremely generous offer for the output that has been produced to date, sick of paying for potential, how about some consistent effort.

Playing in a WTs' team as a prop would be very different to playing as a prop in a stronger team.

As another poster said earlier, on his output from the last 2 games, he is definitely in the second tier of props going around at the moment and so worthy of the $850K per year. But that's 2 games! Overall his output this year has been very poor. Conundrum for sure.
I would prefer to be keeping him.

WT have had a lot of false dawns and I suspect the scarring from that may linger.

If Utoikamanu DOES leave, NAS under certain conditions is a good replacement.

He can't be worth the same money as Utoikamanu.

He can't be carrying a long term injury.

You take those 2 conditions into play, and he is the large human we don't have until Miller is ready.

I've plumped for the Raiders Peter Hola. He's ALSO a big body human. NAS comes with a resume though.

Ideally- we keep Utoikamanu.

I'd then look at Hola as a rotational/depth option.
Get hunt and one other from the sharks , u could get both for 1.2 million

Catch 22 - that’s us.
Players want to win premierships but more to the point they like to win games. Our star players want to stay loyal but they want to win games. We start winning regularly then they are easier to keep.

3 wooden spoons in a row is not a good leverage.

Everyone talking about Stef or a possible replacement but I hope that Miller develops into a decent prop for us. He’s still a couple of years away from that level but fingers crossed.

I think if we can win another 4 games this year Stef may stay. Big if.

28 years old and has only been talked about for the last 6 months
(Like he's a Prime Taumalolo)
No but he fills a need for us with the above attributes.

No one is saying he's Payne Haas that I've seen but if Uto departs, he's the right age profile to complement Klemmer, Twal as our young middle contingent (Miller, Faagutu, Sukkar, hopefully big Tofaeono, Johannssen) as they develop.

Only reason he is a million dollar player to some is because there are no props on the market hence the reason they want to test it now. They will get the most they can atm before more props enter the market and they become readily available.

If we have to sign Stef on a long term deal at 800k, it won't look so bad on the cap in 2-3 years as the cap rises...provided there are no ratchet clauses.

Klemmer is the one sucking money out of our cap and returning average performance. I would release Klemmer and sign NAS as his replacement happily.

Does anyone know when Klemmers deal finishes? Is it end of next year?

We have Klemmer, Twal, Seyfarth, Sione Fainu who can all play big minutes in the middle. Pole is building his endurance. Sukkar who will likely end up in the middle also can play long.

So a 30-minute middle is just as valuable for us.
This time next year Herman will be better than all those blokes and Klemmer will be playing for Salford.
