Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Adrian Proszenko (Herald) said on SEN today he believes Stefano wouldn’t leave Sydney due a family situation and needs to remain in Sydney. He wouldn’t go into detail of the situation though. Also believes he will stay. I hope he is right but journalists guessing like the rest of us

Couple of interesting items in DT tonight:

Souths remain on the look-out for a cut-priced prop but the likes of Royce Hunt and Jack de Belin are expected to be too expensive.

NRL clubs are circling another Wallaby with Suli Vunivalu set to be the next target from the 15-man game. Vunivalu has attracted interest from a host of clubs already after the former Storm flyer missed out on Australia’s latest squad. He has 12 months left on his deal with the Queensland Reds but given Rugby Australia’s financial constraints they would consider letting him go to help free up some much needed funds.

Royce Hunt & Suli Vunivalu come on down to Tiger town 🤣
MSN article advised De Belin wants 2 years but Steelers and Souths will only give him one. ESL made offers but he wants to stay in the NRL.

Vunivalu is exactly what we’re missing in our outside backs.

Scroll down to Adrian Prozenko interview & they talk Stef about halfway through. An interesting take on the situation.

Mate, this is blown up much more than it should,
because he happens to play 4 the world famous
wests tigers. I genuinely believe we're coming to
an agreement. He's allowed 2 test his market value
But we'll get the price right. Richo is the man

Wests Tigers recruit Heamasi Makasini the teenage clone of All Blacks legend Jonah Lomu

Wests Tigers' new recruit Heamasi Makasini could almost be mistaken for All Blacks legend... more

The Wests Tigers have been locked in talks to tie down teenage centre Heamasi Makasini and their efforts are set to intensify after his performances for Newington College in recent weeks.

Sport Confidential has obtained footage of a rampaging Makasini toying with his high school opponents in a game against the The King’s School, highlighting why the Tigers have tabled a deal to keep him at the club beyond next season.

There are shades of All Blacks legend Jonah Lomu in the way he swats aside opponents (watch the side-by-side video above).

Makasini is still only 17 but there are some who believe he is so talented, the Tigers could seek an exemption to have him play at some point before his 18th birthday, ala Sydney Roosters star Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii.

Heamasi Makasini goes whack

He has attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs in the NRL but the Tigers are quietly confident that they can convince the teenager that his future lies with them.
Makasini, meanwhile, is set to be a star of the Australian schoolboys carnival to be played in a fortnight at Coffs Harbour.

Nothing new. Everyone knew his talent before his efforts in recent games.

Would like to see him confirmed to our club asap though!

Our conundrum atm is we currently have 30 players under ‘possible’ contracts for next season. Possible includes Stef & the options that Sezer & Tumeth have in their contracts.

So until we offload/release players or advise options are not being taken up, we cannot recruit any more players from externally or promote like Makasini to top 30.

What we can officially do is sign Makasini to a Dev deal for ‘25 with top 30 in ‘26.

If the problem is top 30 positions not money, can't we review the lower end contracts and payout the contract of one player to free up a position?

How would it benefit rugby Australia as he hasn’t made selection. Wouldn’t he only be then contracted to the reds?

He still has 1 more year of school left I am pretty sure? So he wont be fulltime training with us next year anyway you wouldnt think. A development contract next year and then we have more Top 30 spots in 26' for him to take up as you alluded to.

Having Luai/Galvin (whoever plays left side) and Samuela playing inside of him long term should be enticing enough to stick around!
Richo will get it done!
