Stefano Utoikamanu #241

Don't know what's up with you today. Roosters are offering Crichton, in excellent form for club and state 750k, they got Leniu, another origin prop for 525k. There's no way a questionable player from the Tigers gazumps then all. None.
desperate times for desperate clubs..unless youve got Uncle Nick or Rusty ( I have a small movie role fr you)on board!!
Think Richo played it exactly right...smart

This is playing out well for Richo, if Stef signs for Easts or Souths for $600k or so, knocking back our $800k and $900k from Raiders and Dragons, he is smart enough to know that there is outside payments coming in, and he has the balls to call it out too

So many people on here saying we should use Stefano money and buy 2 average priced props with the same output but I haven’t seen any names mentioned. Who are these averaged priced props with the same output? There isn’t much on the market.

Give me Peter Hola, Liam Knight or Pasami Saulo. I'll get rolling eyes from nearly everyone, but mixed with what we have, it creates a solid defensive unit at a price that allows the club to re-sign the young stars & add quality when it's actually available.

For bonus points- add Jack Williams to our back row or lock.

The only props worth 900k+ are Haas, Tino, AFB, JFH, Tapine. Two of them are leaving their clubs.

There are some really solid props on much less Leniu, Leota, May, Corey Jensen, Leo Thompson, kamikamica, Naufahu Whyte, JWH, Paseka, Cotter, Neame.

Thing is we may think that’s what they are worth but due to how thin the market is some will get paid.

Point was making is today most clubs have high cost in their front row, so it’s becoming the normal, in 3-5yrs it won’t change price wise.

Stefano can leave! He ain’t worth 900k at all. One good game in 5 doesn’t cut it! Would be throwing the chequebook at Angus Crichton! Just a brute in collision on both the edge and middle! Throw 1 mil at him or even more! The guy is a weapon
The market will determine Utoikamanu's value and Crichton I don't believe will ever leave the Roosters. You know they love playing for less just to play for the club.

The Roosters won’t be getting Angus Crichton to re-sign for 750k and nobody will get big Stef to sign with them for under 800k.
When there are very few quality players on the market their price inflated because of it.

Probably depends on whether another near half price Rose Bay house is awaiting one or both of them.

Send an email to the guy that has that job, the recruitment guy and ask him who they are looking at to replace Stef. Or, you can read a fan forum stating opinions about a very average front rower putting out fark all return for 900k a year. Any current front rower, bench front rower or reggies front rower on the market could do just as good if not better than what Stef is doing. Theres about 100 names for you.

I don’t agree. Again name some names. Who are Your so called reggies or benchies that can do better.

Not sure if your joking or being serious with Hola, Knight and Saulo. All 3 of those struggle in cup

I would like to get a few from the sharks Tuku Hau Tapuha, Oregon Kaufusi and Royce Hunt would add some size and grunt to the pack.

Though mainly a game day related article, Still thought I'd share since Benji weighs in on the situation.

‘Sure there will be fireworks’: Benji ready for Utoikamanu v JWH round two

The best way Stefano Utoikamanu can prove he is the game’s next $1 million-a-year prop is to get one over battle-hardened opponent Jared Waerea-Hargreaves on Sunday.

Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall is among those looking forward to the heavyweight clash between Utoikamanu and Waerea-Hargreaves at Allianz Stadium.

Waerea-Hargreaves will join Mitch Aubusson on 306 games as the most-capped Sydney Roosters player.
The last time he played against the Tigers, Waerea-Hargreaves, 35, was sin-binned for headbutting 24-year-old Utoikamanu, who later told this masthead: “I know Jared is a nice bloke off the field, but he’s a bit of a grub on the field. I wanted to get into him a bit.

“I might have said something [about his age], calling him old, but I didn’t mean it.
“If he wants to go [next time], I don’t care, I’ll go.”

Utoikamanu has been in the headlines this week after formally telling the Tigers he wanted to test the open market for next year.

Canberra, St George Illawarra and Melbourne have all expressed an interest, while the Tigers have already tabled a five-year, $4 million extension.

Marshall on Saturday said of the front-rowers’ duel: “That’s why people watch the game. When we took our game to Vegas, we pride [ourselves] on the collisions and how tough they are.

“To see those two go at it, if they are on the field at the same time – I think Jared comes off the bench – but if they do, I’m sure there will be fireworks.
“Jared is a great player. The way he plays on the field doesn’t represent who he is off it. He’s quite the opposite and a really good bloke.

“For us, Stefano is a big part of our forward pack and what we do. We need all of the players backing him up and doing the same thing. He can’t do it by himself.”

Marshall said the Tigers remained “very hopeful” they could keep Utoikamanu, and wanted him to only focus on his game.

“I told him, ‘You have to do what’s best for you at all times’,” Marshall said.

“That [final] decision, hopefully we get enough games on the board where he can see where we’re going, and he wants to be a part of it.

“If he doesn’t, good luck to him. At the moment, we’re still very confident.”
The Tigers have not won three straight games since 2018. They welcome the return of John Bateman from a pec injury for the first time since round 10.

The Roosters also have James Tedesco, a former Tigers favourite, celebrating 150 NRL games for the Bondi club.

Absolute sewerage level take.

Best to avoid the supply shortage and buy in another area to strengthen the team. Pole is off next year if prioritise extending him at a lower clip personally. I think the tigers offer is fair if anything generous.
