I believe we are well ahead on this scorecard. Luai would have to be up with the best 7s in the NRL. Turuva is also a high class recruit. Papali'i and Utoikamanu are fine players.
I’m sure Newcastle would pitch in at least $ $200k of his $750k salary tooSign Daniel Saifiti asap, at least he can make decent metres and isn't a soft cock.
We'll come up with a prop if Utoikamanu leaves. The ESL always produces good forwards from Yorkshire and Lancashire plus there will be other options around. Finding a high quality 7 is difficult but we have done so.“Well ahead” is a very rose coloured glasses assessment in my opinion … the very best 7’s in the game still require a strong pack to play behind … ours is comparatively weak now and has been weakened further for next season
I think this all started with a journo speculating. I highly doubt we'd shop our vice-captain who sures up our defensive line, brings aggression/spirit & effort and much-needed experience. It's not official, but we are shopping him. We may be stuck with him. I'm not the Oracle.
I’d say Oregon Kaufusi would at least be a discussion point.Richo's blackbook ...
Nelson Asofa-Solomona
Daniel Saifiti
Herman Ese Ese
Royce Hunt
Emre Guler
Any others?
Bateman is great for the team, seems to have eveeryone's back (and vice versa) and is obviously quite good defensively. He's just terrible in general attack. Takes away momentum from plays on his side of the field. Stops, starts, jinks, runs sideways.I think this all started with a journo speculating. Yes he gives away a silly penalty every 2nd match but it's only due to his passion & aggression and getting in the face of his opposition.
Yeah I think Richo put the feelers out in England. He's past it for NRL. Came here with patchy UK form and has had no impact since arriving. Hopefully we can shift him.haven’t they been shopping him for like 2 months ? He is on $700k and worth about half that
I'm not sure he is the difference maker you think he is. For 700k, you are 100k off Angus Crichton money as a comparison. Is he 7/8 as good as Crichton? I'd argue he's less than half as good. Worth about 350k. Good squad member at that money, but at 700k, we can do better.I think this all started with a journo speculating. I’ve been one of Batemans biggest critics and agree he has not provided anywhere near 750k per season in value.I'm not sure he is the difference maker you think he is. Yikes. Bateman, Seyfarth and Hetherington in the same team? We might be the first team to have 3 players sin binned at the same time.Hethrington told he can look around, I like his mongrel. If we can nab two of him, Saifiti or Solomona then we did ok if Steph leaves. Both Melbourne and Newcastle would be paying freight.
Too much rubbish in his game. Causes more problems than he's worth. A few games out of a 4 year contract + missing most of every off season is not what we need.I’ve been one of Batemans biggest critics and agree he has not provided anywhere near 750k per season in value.
However he looked to be playing with far more intensity when he came on the field against the Roosters, was hitting hard in defence and running the ball with venom with limited opportunities.
If that’s the player we are getting each and every week, then we need to keep him.
He has been starting at the Sharks ahead of some pretty decent players.I would prefer him over some of the names mentioned. Suggested him before the season and think at the Sharks he is coming into his own abit.
I see Kaufusi as a #3 in rotation or replacement for Klemmer based on style. Has a good defensive work rate but meters always ends up in the 80-90 mark. He has some punch in his runs at times and is hitting his prime years.
We could always add Corey Horsburgh and really live in the edge.Yikes. Bateman, Seyfarth and Hetherington in the same team? We might be the first team to have 3 players sin binned at the same time.
yes but he needs to channel his energy and aggression into playing footy.I’ve been one of Batemans biggest critics and agree he has not provided anywhere near 750k per season in value.
