Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The thing for me though is we spent a long time putting resources around Luke Brooks and the guy just wasn't up to it.

It will be refreshing and hopefully beneficial for us not to have to worry too much about the new halfback, who will do his job and create chances, and let the other players just do their job.

For example Tigers 2024 are a low-error side and Tigers 2023 had lots of attacking possession, but the main problem was that good defences could withstand our early assaults and then wrestle back control of the match. At which point we'd eventually capitulate.

My personal argument is that in 2024 Tigers are even more competitive for longer periods, compared to 2022-2023, despite not yet converting that to more wins. And the key to that has been being able to sustain pressure and maintain an attacking threat, which Luai is expected to provide.

It's different for a young and modest team when there isn't continual pressure on us, and pressure is alleviated by keeping the ball (which we are doing) and turning possession into points (which Luai was signed to help).
2023 tigers were worse in defence but the biggest problem were the halves. Brooks was actually not that bad last year, Wakeham terrible and then Will Smith as backup was grim. This year we are in more games and our defence wasn't that bad for the first 10 rounds until the cowboys or dragons game. Our biggest issues now are having a dominant forward and our outside backs defence

So much rubbish chat about Halves, it’s Galvin and Jerome next year 100% Sezier hopefully remains in the squad and Latu develops. Bud needs to go.

What we need are middles, not big name has beens like the safitis. We need players with commitment, youth and skill that are ahead of our newly introduced developing players. This will spur them all on to grow.

Players floating around the edge of their starting side. I believe the play is that we pay overs for 3 players on a long term. This will pull hopefully them away from their clubs.

Going through the list of players no signed for next year. Here are some targets

Klese Haas
Corey Waddell
Joe Chan (MO)
Jamayne Tanou Brown (been injured all year)
Charlie Guymer (played tonight, looked great)
Tom Eisenhuth

Players we should go after and pay overs for:
Liam Henry
Naf Whyte
Davvy Moale

I've said before Klese Haas would be a decent pick up.

An out there one would be Pangai if he was on 500k to 600k and NAS if Stef leaves.

Prop rotation of Pole, Pangai, Klemmer and NAS looks a bit better than what we have now. Plus if Bateman goes down, Pangai can move to 2nd row and Twal comes in.

I think you could run with that pack for a couple of years until we understand if any juniors are pushing for spots and if anyone decent comes onto the market.

to the players u mentioned-very generous
I believe Klese Haas, Tom Eisenhuth have had great years of growth and showed they can compete at the highest level. Joe Chan showed a lot of raw talent but is behind blore. I’m unsure with Jamayne why he has missed so much this year. Waddell is solid and a decent age. The kid on debut tonight looked very promising.

The other three are in great systems and showed supreme talent this year. Liam Henry is all effort. Naf Whyte is pure power and Mooale is similar to Steff, 48 games and is 22 years old, big body would be a good pairing with Pole and Steff.

NAS’s body is starting to fail him though. Pangai would be good but I can see him being lazy at the tigers. He needs to be under a dictatorship.

Pangai is a risky one. I don't think anyone in the NRL will offer more than a 1 or 2 year deal because of what you mentioned. He shows glimpses, but hasn't found consistency at any club.

Seems to be pretty calm under Bennett. Has only played 2 games but averages 90 metres from 40 minutes off the interchange. Too early to tell if he's turned the corner.

With NAS, I haven't heard anything about his body failing him. What are the issues with his body?

He missed most of the start of this season, I think it was his knee

Hamstring...came back in April. He's been pretty sturdy over his career. Latu has done a few hamstrings...what does that say about him?

Ok was it a hamstring, I thought it was something he had surgery for in the off season.

NAS would be a good signing but as impact off the bench. I wouldn’t see Melbourne letting him go. But I think we could get Chan and lock down that second edge. Melbourne owe us one.
Really we need to keep Steff. I feel we are doing everything the right way, which is not throwing the bag at him and giving him everything.

That last statement is just a straight up lie and you know it
In case you didn't realise only one of our junior rep sides made the finals. Two of them came last. Of those Harold Matt's GF winning players, most are too small to play first grade consistently at a high level.
Our Flegg side lost by 60 last week, we're last in Cup and NRL. We like to talk ourselves up but most clubs have talent equal to or greater than what we have.

We really need to hire an "all effort" player, in the style of Liam Fulton. Heck if he can perform like the other Liam, lets do it.

I think it was the Telegraph that provided the smorgasbord of young WTs' talent - the Large bros, Makasini etc. We have some very good young players coming through and we need to concentrate on getting them through to the NRL. I am not too bothered by results in the lower grades as we all know the club has had many injuries so younger players have been pushed up which means our results will take a hit but our players benefit from being exposed to better competition. I would however like the club to have Latu Fainu in the halves and Faagutu at lock in NSW Cup. These players are highly talented and should be forming a combination. The idea being both increase the pool of quality NRL players we lack now.
