LIVE GAME Round 18 vs. Storm

Live Game Discussion
Bellamy was pretty complimentary of our effort tonight. Said he thought we would be a force in the next 2 years. Hope he's right. The guys we've signed for next year will help but we obviously need quite a few more quality recruits to complement our young blokes like Galvin and Fainu and the new guys.
I think he's referring to our name change to the Western Force.

That was a game we could've won.
Forget all the 1st v 16th stuff. The Storm put out a very ordinary team that we matched well against. They're no Roosters team of superstars.
Another soft sin binning lost us another game.

54% possession, 68% completions, 10 line breaks and 13 offloads against us, 35 missed tackles from a Melbourne side missing Munster and Grant including a runaway try against the run of play and a sin bin.

Despite the above, Doueihi could have made it 18-6 by passing inside to Bula to score under the posts, but it seems he has rediscovered his hero syndrome and wanted to try and burn Paps on the outside instead of the easy lay up for Bula to score. Instead of just bombing the try, he also lost the ball. For those that have played footy, you know how demoralising it is to your team when a team mate turns a certain try into a handover. The game changes in that moment.

I think Doueihi offers a lot in attack, but he also has moments where he hogs the ball and stifles attacking plays. He urgently needs to work on that.

The only positive is we made 7 line breaks ourselves and parts of the attack looked better.

they are not at the Roosters level …

the Storm were there to be had … the sin bin didn’t help … I agree that it could have gone either way… but I would have thought by now that the players would have learnt not to even put it in the referees hands

Derway is typical of a lot of players they have here … he has some flaws … probably in a better team playing with better plays … the coach could minimise these flaws and he would be considered an above average player … but here they get exposed ..

Lobb, Alimano and Faataape are barely KOE standard, but Lobb is exceptional in the air and can kick goals which elevates him above the other two. I would play him on the wing until Tupou returns. Staines has the other wing spot for lack of alternatives.

I got a feeling Benji will stick with Fataape …

Massive moment. For a bloke not shy to give a teammate a gob full when they stuff up he should concentrate on his own game.

IMHO, the major reasons we lost against one of the benchmark teams are:
- our awful defence and a huge number of missed tackles;
- unforced errors, we have to play at least 20-30% better to win a game;
- accept Koroisau, Galvin, Bula, Pole, and Fuina Bros we do not have players that could compete with players from the other clubs;
- Klemmer and Utoikemanu are always outplayed by our opponents -> meters run per possession are, at best, 10 m less, possession after possession, game after game;
- our options on the last tackle are by far behind our competitors;
- the refs and bunker were the deciding factors in too many games. For plays that were not even considered questionable, we get either tries denied or 10m bin/ejections. I think these are in the majority due to an awful refs/bunker quality and criteria consistency. The result is that even 50/50 calls are for us 20/80 at best.

And what to say about the Ch 9's clowns "SOO"? In their words, "the example of how the game should be played" is really, just a Micky Mouse parody of the league.
The refs/bunker do not even consider plays for which the WT gets at least 10m bin or is punished for several games. How could this parody of the league be called the best when the rules for the "SOO" are so much different?
The league games and "SOO" must be played under the same rules!

I’m not sure how long you have been watching Rugby League … but State of Origin has been reffed differently in its 40 plus year existence… I have no issues … but referee NrL games the same !

It was blatant and there could have been no other outcome. Ref had no choice.

Haven't been reading the thread, is everyone agreeing that Stefano's performance was disgraceful to the point his offer should be withdrawn immediately?
You're probably right.

I said a while back that we should lower our offer by $50k each week and around about now that would be down to about $650k a year.

In a few weeks we will be around his true value.

I can see from the anti-Stefano sentiment here that the general thought is he will leave. We lose another good player. Wonder if Bellamy had a chat with him while in Sydney?

Given the players we have, the young side, the lack of experience, the constant line up changes throughout the year, an inexperienced coach, the side did pretty well against the 1st placed Storm.

Was not expecting to lose by only 12 and we had a player, yet again, sin binned which didn't help.
That Storm side last night was pretty weakened and at times quite disorganised in attack and defence.
Yes the club is coming first, but that performance from them was not elite.
Still ran 7 tries past us though.
