LIVE GAME Round 18 vs. Storm

Live Game Discussion
All this hate for AD is madness in my mind..

It's his 3rd game back and he didn't concede a try down his side with Stains and that alone is a big win.
He tries his heart out and Yes he could have passed to Bula but he also might have thought it was a Storm player coming so can forgive him for that.
He kicked for Bula's last try and he looks dangerous in attack and very hard to bring down.

He is one of the 1st picked in the team and is the best centre we have.

Anyway, just my thoughts so carry on ...
I thought maybe Paps shepparded him to the right away from Bula. What was good was his turn of pace for that burst, has to be noted. As mentioned, third game back.

just watching the full replay now …more disappointing then the blown try was the 2 tries back to back you mentioned …. They had a long period of attacking their line at 12-6 up… they were 10 yards out from their line and Matamua dropped it cold … 2 plays later Wishart gapped them which led to a try a couple of play the balls later .. the break was down ADs side …probably him and Bateman to blame …

The Storm then scored again the next set of six down the other side … Olam got a bit exposed here with his stiff knee …

This period and the sin bin were the difference in the game …
While both teams started out very clumsy, I thought we were on top until then. There were a few other critical moments that really killed our momentum.

I agree with you ...
Since he has returned we have another attacking option.
I am sure his combinations with the rest of the team will only improve with time.
It's another reason to be looking forward to next year.

yes …agreed … would have liked them to extend that 12-6 lead they had …they had enough ball to have done so… these periods are where games get won and lost

Looking at the storms first two tries both between Stef and another defender,
The 1st probably not Stef’s fault but should have done a lot better,
The 2nd possibly he should have already been subbed as he was straight after the try.
I don’t think he has more than 20 minutes in him for each spell.
I just can’t see the value in him at $900K.

I thought the first try was a bit on Stef to be honest … the Storm guy who scored the try came inside Hughes so that then became Sfefs man and Hughes became Sam’s man ..

Got to admit there is some merit in that- not that it would happen unless Benji demotes himself
I'm sure he's feeling the stress and I don't know if he truly believes he can take them out of the basement being a rookie. Having a holiday mid season showed it's affecting him quite a bit, and maybe we should ask if he's not up to it mentally, then it's best if he steps down

Lost to the top team by 12 pts and they scored 12 pts while they had 13 on 12 so not too bad .
Thought we were on top in first half leading 12-6 and putting pressure on the Storm then cold drop from Matamua and we never were on the front foot after that
7 tries to 5 but the 3 tries I thought were unacceptable were
The run by Hughes where Faataape then Galvin then Olam then Seyfarth couldn't seem to lay a hand on him
The barge over center field by Wishart with 3 forwards too slow to react
The 2nd Faalaago try with Mason totally isolated in a 1 on 1 with a very fast guy

The good thing is we are starting to look like an exciting attacking team with
Api -Bula - Douehi -Galvin - Sezer all looking dangerous in attack
Even Bellamy said the Tigers will be a force to be reckoned with in a year or two
Benji just stop picking those few who lack either effort and /or ability . Its not hard to see the liabilities !

I think for the most part Benji has picked his teams each week pretty well. Sure everyone has their opinions but when you consider the realistic options available to him each week, i can’t say that he has gotten too much wrong. At times he has stuck with guys, like Naden for example, but has dropped them when better players were available. Benji has also tried to blood young players when he could. We have had a pretty bad trot with multiple players injured and no experienced depth.

54% possession, 68% completions, 10 line breaks and 13 offloads against us, 35 missed tackles from a Melbourne side missing Munster and Grant including a runaway try against the run of play and a sin bin.

Despite the above, Doueihi could have made it 18-6 by passing inside to Bula to score under the posts, but it seems he has rediscovered his hero syndrome and wanted to try and burn Paps on the outside instead of the easy lay up for Bula to score. Instead of just bombing the try, he also lost the ball. For those that have played footy, you know how demoralising it is to your team when a team mate turns a certain try into a handover. The game changes in that moment.

I think Doueihi offers a lot in attack, but he also has moments where he hogs the ball and stifles attacking plays. He urgently needs to work on that.

The only positive is we made 7 line breaks ourselves and parts of the attack looked better.
Can’t help thinking if he iced that moment we would have rode the Leichhardt crowd to a win. The definition of a turning point.
