Is he good enough to take Matamua’s place yet?
He doesn’t have to be a world beater to do more in those limited mins than what Matamua does.
He is very good but has played only a handful of NSW Cup games. He has a strong running game, very good defensive technique and can promote the ball. He does have that competitive edge some of our players lack. Let's hope he is promoted to NSW Cup lock.

He’s only played a few games against men and very young but you gotta start some time.
Would you pick on the bench for NRL yet?
10 - 15 mins a half?

Listen we are rushing to many of them at the moment there is no clear development plan, there is no coaching structure, there is clearly hardly any skills development going on, This off season will be so critical in this joint adventure, and based on current set up i can't see Benji lasting to long next season.

I agree but at the moment it’s either fast track the really good ones or pay overs.

It’s as clear as day that Faagatu is highly aggressive and has always run the ball with purpose, if he’s now hitting hard defensively that’s a great sign.
He’s a player who shows plenty of signs that he could become a difference maker at NRL level, not sure why quite a few others are playing NSW Cup ahead of him.
I agree with you and that's what caught me off guard was how aggressive he was. Coming out of the line to put pressure on the sharks forwards and his defence and hitting with intent. He also got penalised (which I thought was a bad call) for manhandling one of the sharks wingers and drove him back 10m which the winger did not like at all

I know we have to move players up and down based on form, injuries, etc. but I honestly believe if we kept our players all in Flegg (Clarke, Broaderlow, Tumeth, Faagutu, Herman, Nicholas, etc) I honestly think our Flegg team would have a good chance of taking out the comp. We had beaten every team in the top 4 apart from Canberra before players started moving up and down

So we are getting hammered most weeks in every senior grade - not great for development, team spirit or for hanging on to better players getting presented with options at better clubs. (Nor, for attracting new players of quality to our club either).
Why is it happening??
We are in a vicious cycle where, because we do not have enough decent depth of NRL experience we are playing our young potential players before they are ready, thus depleting our reserve grade team. Then, to fill that hole we play our better flegg and SG ball players in KOE and deplete those teams. The cycle goes on and none of our quality young players get to play in Rep teams, like under 19 SOO etc etc. Nor do they get the proper development playing against players of their age, strength and size. Instead they get repeatedly beaten, week after week.
I wonder whether we should let these kids play a little longer at their level and import some real NRL players for 1-2 years to prop up our Squad.
It’s rubbish that they, their parents or Managers, should be spitting the dummy over their “pathway” being blocked. In my view if they are really good enough they will show it and win the right to play NRL ahead of any would be “blocker”.
I say - Give them more time to develop and let the cream rise to the top so we can identify them better and ensure we keep the right ones.

Except, it actually wasn't.

WTs report on the website had Navren Willett scoring from jumping high above the Sharks' players. He is not mentioned as a try scorer.

Except, it actually wasn't.

Except it actually was when I watched the game live thanks regardless of what was reported by NSWRL. Feel free to confirm for yourself by watching the highlights when it comes out

I stand corrected if that's the case.

Isn't it the club that's got it wrong? NSWRL doesn't name the team. And who would be surprised given how the development of these young guys is being handled at the moment. Up a grade, down a grade, different positions week-to-week, a reserve grade team full of kids, no experienced part-timers to guide them in reserve grade, etc.
Yeah pretty shoddy. In the highlights you can see it's Faagutu clearly #8 and the scorer with Willett in #2. Bloody U8s can get team lists correct. Richo really needs to reinforce professionalism & standards right through the club.

For all who regularly watch our lower grades, who do we genuinely believe are a decent chance of progressing and becoming regular NRL players ?
Does Willett have the required pace to make it and does he defend well enough ?
Faagatu seems to dominate in Flegg and although smaller in stature for a modern day forward, he seems to hit top speed quickly, run the ball and tackle aggressively. Is his fitness/aerobic capacity a concern or can anyone see any other reason why he is not currently getting promoted to NSW Cup ?
Herman similarly seems to dominate at Flegg level, but struggle when playing NSW Cup. I have concerns over his fitness/aerobic capacity does anyone else have an opinion on him ?
What are our thoughts on Bailey Hodges and Caine Nicholas ? Both look to be similarly versatile in being able to play as a 13, 9 or even on an edge when required. I think there is a future for them both, but they probably need another season or two to continue developing?
Can Vaka Aho take the next step and put himself in contention for NRL ?
Are we convinced Jordan Miller is the real deal ? I love what he brings when we have the ball, but there has to be concerns as to whether or not he will get himself fit enough to cope defending for more than 5 or 10mins in the middle at NRL level.
What are our thoughts on the Laulilli boys ? I honestly don’t think they have what it takes to be regular NRL players, but I hope I’m wrong.
What about Saukuru and Sukkar, they are both big bodies who can do plenty of damage if and when they put their mind to it ? I have concerns about Saukuru’s fitness and aerobic capacity and have concerns about Sukkar’s willingness to run the ball and tackle hard enough to use his size to advantage. These areas of concern can be fixed for both players, but we need to see it and see it fast.
Can Heath Mason develop into the Connor Watson type utility that we would like him to become ? Hopefully Benji starts giving him more time on the field to find out.
Is Talyn developing as well as expected ? I can imagine it would be very hard in a NSW Cup team that is struggling so badly, but we need to see him get out of dummy half much more often and use a bit of deception in his game. Simply passing with the occasional scoot out of dummy half will not help him become the quality NRL player he has showed potential to become.
I have seen enough of Josh Feledy to believe he has genuine NRL potential, but I know many disagree. What are our thoughts on his chances of becoming regular good standard NRL player ?
What are the chances of Broederlow or Clarke becoming NRL players ?

You named most of the Possibles; but no one can answer those questions ATM.
Only time will tell if they are dedicated for NRL honours or just enjoying their youth.

If i am wrong let me know Faagatu, Herman, Kit L, Saukuru all need to spend the off-season training under Mark Carroll and Roger Fabri.

Sukkar’s needs to find a strength coach

Yes and Miller needs to join them. No off season or KFC for any of them if they are serious about becoming NRL players.
Sukkar simply needs to realise how big, strong and fast he is and stop doing things half hearted.

Most of our juniors are too small to dominate NRL. We don't recruit athletic players, just good people who supposedly try hard.

None of the players listed have developed much this year. The lack of any attacking or defensives structure is an issue, the lack of a defensive coach who can improve our poor techniques is another issue. And there's the massive issue of our complete failure to have a system in place for our juniors. There is no common playing style. We have no plan for development, as individuals or as teams. Players change positions and teams on a near weekly basis, this helter-skelter approach is lightyears behind Penrith, Sharks, Broncos, Storm etc.

If we recruit juniors who don't have the necessary physical attributes to succeed, is it even worth persevering with them given the odds on them making it being very small??
