Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Exactly the kind of thing that Pascoe would talk about doing and when the NRL got wind of it they would sit him down for 6 months for merely thinking about it.

On the positive side, after we paid the fine and accepted the 2 year salary cap hit we would welcome him back with open arms like some hero coming back from battle.
The CEO getting a suspension and the club a two year salary cap hit for an idea that never happened was/is BS.

Well it seems that Bennett thinks that schuster would make a good lock and it looks like he may be going to the rabbits. Why do we not jump in and try him , when he was cut loose I think we could have got him cheap , BUT there’s no why I would have taken him if he wanted big $$$$

Because he wants to be coached by an elite guy rather than a rookie most probably… he needs to be coached up

Schusters one of the most talented players I’ve seen honestly. People are quick to forget what he did in that 2021 rookie season in the back row, he was playing that good that Fitler was going to select him for NSW as a 19 year old for NSW until he injured his calf.

His best friend passing away clearly took a big toll on his mental health but if he can get in the right mindset & get to peak fitness I think he will be one of the best players in the comp. Surely it would be a signing Benji would like at the right price, he did say Schusters debut was the best he’s seen & he has that same natural ability to just play what’s infront

He wld be a categoric disaster in WT environment, and a larger distraction than he was at Manly if thats possible
Bennet a good fit for him...

His best interests would not be served coming here… why would he put the rest of his career in further jeopardy for an extra $100k?

I agree ..he needs a guy like Bennett, Bellamy or even Des where he had some previous success with

Is this another kid who wants top 30 now from our club?
Seemed like he was given a pretty good pathway to me.
I think so? But would have blocked Haemasi Makasini and Onitoni Large in their progression.
Who would you like to let go from this 3?
Can't keep them all. Some of the "maybes" have to be sacrificed for the more fancied.
In Richo I see a good long term judge of talent and local club retention, harmony, culture in the making.

Bellamy is the bloke who could get him to reach his potential,Bennet is only a perhaps and unfortunately Benji would find him in the too hard basket and it would damage our rebuild which we certainly do not want

There is a misconception that only coaches who have been coaching for 20 years plus can get the best out out of players that have a history of mixing their form.
Yes these coaches have a very good record in getting the best out of wayward players, but these coaches were also young and rookies themselves once.
While I would agree and was given a bit of inside info that Benji has struggled with his management of our own struggling and wayward players, that does not mean he cannot reflect on this and change his ways to become much better in these situations moving forward.
To continually say other clubs are better at and better suited for struggling and wayward players is just admitting defeat and not fighting to get where we need to be.

I suspect Schuster’s Manager will advise him to seek out one of these three coaches to get his career on track - Bellamy , Bennett or Hasler ..

He is now in the Last Chance Saloon career wise… but even more importantly…he needs a proven leader of men to fix him off the field as well… not a coach with the L plates still on ..

It would be a shame if someone with his talent just falls through the cracks at such an early age ..

Benji is only one person involved at Wests Tigers, we do happen to have the most experienced CEO in the entire NRL who is very hands on, therefore he would now also play a crucial role in managing our players moving forward and that’s not to mention John Morris and whoever else we end up with as our assistant coach.
It is plain crazy to continue saying clubs with higher profile coaches are suited to certain players, but we are not.
Let’s get in the fight, strive to be the best at managing our players and become a destination club for talented, but wayward players looking to revive their careers.
If done correctly with the appropriate conditions in their contract, it becomes very low risk, but potentially high reward if we can get the best out of them.

there are many more players Richo can go after rather than Schuster ….

He has too much on his plate to be giving him too much extra attention

Galvin won't run sideways as much if we get a forward pack that consistently punches over the advantage line & puts defence on the back foot.

Fair enough, though all players will do that, and whilst I see plenty to like about Galvin, very few waltz across field anywhere near as much as he does.

I actually think Melbourne would be the worst place for him. Some times big boys are better as big boys and shouldn't be changed to much. Not saying don't improve their fitness but also take them for what they are. George Rose was a regular first grader until Bellamy tried to strip the weight off him. Was never the same again. Same goes for Kasiano who was a Prop of the Year winner before going to Melbourne only to play out his career in the UK.

To get the best out of Luai and Galvin we obviously need a strong forward pack, obviously need some hard running and fast backs, but the most important thing will be to have a 13 that can play as a first receiver and free them up wider of the ruck.
I understand there has been talk about Latu Fainu taking on this role and that may be a good option for him to play 40 minutes as a 13 shared with somebody else.
Dylan Walker has also been mentioned, but his price is 600k, when I think we could potentially get Schuster for 250k tops.
Everyone has an opinion, but I believe a motivated and fit Schuster along with Jack Williams and possibly Latu Fainu also spending a little bit of time as a 13, would give us the basis of a brilliant attack.
