Maybe this is a sign that Bateman is staying in the UK....
No one will be worse than 2022 side. Of the three spoon teams, last year was my favourite to watch. Though this year's team has the most potential and clearly the most hope of success going forward.Just had a look back to our previous wooden spoon years and wanted to offer a little in sight to where we have headed as a club over the past 2 an a bit years. The real question I looked for is have we improved and by how much? Cause in all honesty we are still last.
Points Scored
22’: 352 (24 Rds) or 14.7 per game; Came Last
23’: 385 (24 Rds) or 16 per game; Came Last
24’: 403 (22 Rds) or 17.7 per game; Currently 2nd last on total points but 13th on per game average.
Conclusion: Overall Improvement
Possession
22’: 48% Per Game; Came Last
23’: 50% Per Game; Came 6th
24’: 49% Per Game; Currently 15th
Conclusion: Hard to dictate as 1% can change you from 15th to 7th but for sake of the argument: Overall Decline.
Set Completion
22’: 77% Rate; Came 7th
23’: 76% Rate; Came 12th
24’: 80% Rate; Coming 6th
Conclusion: Overall significant improvement currently being equal 4th on completion ladder.
Missed Tackles (The lower on ladder the better)
22’: 844 Missed Tackles or 35 per game; Came 4th.
23’: 792 Missed Tackles or 33 per game; came 14th
24’: 844 Missed Tackles or 30 per game currently; coming 1st.
Conclusion: Optics say a clear decline in defensive standards. Though will say Bulldogs are coming second on the ladder and would say they have been one of the best defensive teams, also note in 2022 Penrith came 3rd even though they were one of the better defensive teams.
Errors (Lower on ladder the better)
22’: 250 errors or 10.4 per game; Came Last
23’: 274 errors or 11.4 per game; Came 6th
24’: 225 errors or 9 per game; Currently 10th
Conclusion: Overall improvement.
Penalties Conceded
22’: 139 conceded or 5.8 per game; Came 9th
23’: 133 conceded or 5.5 per game; Came 12th
24’: 135 conceded or 8 per game; Currently 2nd.
Conclusion: Clear decline in discipline, has been the story of our season.
Overall I’d say it’s been one step forward and another back. I will say we are a MUCH better team than previous years but still have a lot of work to do. Thoughts?

Probably just being used by his agent to up his price.Article from the Telegraph
The Wests Tigers have entered the race to sign St George Illawarra star Jack Bird as the club continues its roster rebuild under coach Benji Marshall.
It’s understood the Tigers have met with Bird and have discussed a multi-year deal from 2025.
It comes just 24 hours after Marshall confirmed the cashed-up Tigers are looking to add experience to the top-30 roster for 2025 and beyond.
Bird took up a mutual option to remain at the Dragons for next season but has since been given permission to talk to other clubs.
The Dragons are open to releasing Bird from the final year of his deal in 2025 if the 29-year-old can secure a deal elsewhere.
St George Illawarra coach Shane Flanagan does not want to lose Bird to a rival club but it’s understood the Dragons are not in a position to offer the former NSW Blues representative a deal beyond 2025.
Bird has been in high demand since being granted permission to test the market and has already met with a number of Sydney-based clubs.
On Wednesday, Marshall hinted the club was keen to add much needed experience to its playing ranks, and Bird, a premiership winner and former NSW Blues representative fits that bill.
Bird would also add versatility to Marshall’s young roster given he can play in a number of positions including centre, five-eighth and second row.
Only last week, the Tigers added Jeral Skelton to the club’s outside back stocks, signing the damaging Canterbury winger on a two-year deal.
Yep that is likely the play especially with his manager being Mario Tartak.Probably just being used by his agent to up his price.
What half decent players are available?Maybe Richo is not as good as we think he is , with all the half decent players available , we go chasing bird ( really ) , I said it before and I will say it again unless we sign 3 good quality forwards are backs will be like this year useless , AND if he doesn’t sign those players we need he needs to resign and take benji with him , there so called pathway kids seems to be falling apart , either want out or not up to 1st grade
Saturday or Sunday?Jersey Flegg is a good watch this weekend with some great talent on the park!! It is not streamed but Lidcombe Oval is great to watch some footy.
Makasini and Onitoni Large will be given a run.
Large at FB and Makasini on the wing.
Chris Faagutu will play front row and Bailey Hodges and Cayne Nicholas will get a run. Both been very impressive in cup.
Tumeth is playing for a contract at this point. He will line up at second row.
The most hyped up hooker after TDS at the club, Jared Haywood will be coming off the bench. Been playing great footy in Flegg as of recent.
Noah Johanssen - Tim Johanssen brother will also get a run of the bench.
Sione Vaihu Flegg player of the year 2023 will be in the centres.
Being one of the levels of Wests tigers footy who have seen some success this is a must win game.
They sit at 8th on the table with a record of 12-10. They come against Navren Willett's future team Manly who are 5th on the table.
Will be a great game 12pm at Lidcombe oval.
it doesnt matter who's officially available now. What half decent players are available?
Cause the answer is none

In-demand Canberra forward Corey Horsburgh has met with Brisbane Broncos coach Kevin Walters and is set to catch up with Wests Tigers in the coming weeks.
The 26-year-old, who made his Queensland debut last year, is contracted with the Raiders until the end of 2027 but has been given permission to meet with other clubs to source a deal for 2025 and beyond.
The fiery Horsburgh, who has played just two NRL games this year, has been in stellar form for Canberra's reserve-grade side in recent weeks after a season marred by injuries and suspension.
Horsburgh, who played juniors at Redcliffe and was born in the Brisbane suburb of Caboolture, is close friends with Broncos lock Pat Carrigan and had a positive meeting with club powerbrokers after touring the club's facilities.
"We met with the Broncos yesterday and had a really good conversation with (coach) Kevin Walters and (recruitment chief) Simon Scanlan," Horsburgh's manager Jeff Jurotte told AAP on Thursday.
"Nothing was decided and they explained they have some salary-cap issues they have got to work through.
"Corey played with Pat Carrigan in the Queensland under 20s and they are good mates and would like to play with each other. I look after Pat as well.
"Corey has seen and used Brisbane's facilities before because the Origin players have trained there. Part of the attraction of the Broncos is coming home to Brisbane."
The Broncos are in the midst of finalising a multi-million dollar extension for Reece Walsh and have strike backs Kotoni Staggs and Selwyn Cobbo off-contract at the end of next year, so the salary cap is tight.
Jurotte said Tigers coach Benji Marshall had also reached out.
"We will probably give them the courtesy of meeting up with them next week or the week after," he said.
"Benji and (CEO) Shane Richardson have said they are keen on him but we just haven't had a chance to get to Sydney, but we will."
Horsburgh has also attracted interest from Canterbury and St George Illawarra.
Jurotte said the Bulldogs were "out of the running" after signing Leigh Leopards forward Tom Amone, Sydney Roosters second-rower Sitili Tupouniua and looking to upgrade several members of their current squad.
"Phil Gould was really good about it," Jurotte said.
"He said they wanted to look after the kids that were there and that's fine."
Jurotte has spoken with Dragons coach Shane Flanagan, who also has other irons in the fire.
"He asked me if I can give him a call back in the next two weeks," Jurotte said
Jurotte has spoken to Raiders CEO Don Furner and coach Ricky Stuart and said the option was still open to stay in Canberra.
"They obviously want to keep him at the club and that is still a possibility," he said
"Corey has played three or four games in reserve grade and has been the best player the past few weeks.
"He has lost six kilos, is training the house down and is in a really good spot at the moment and is injury free. It is like he has done his pre-season again and that's where we wanted to get him."

With an attitude like that they aren't the people you want to be dealing with. Obviously just mercenary and want the Tigers to assist in getting him the best contract."We will probably give them the courtesy of meeting up with them next week or the week after," he said.
"Benji and (CEO) Shane Richardson have said they are keen on him but we just haven't had a chance to get to Sydney, but we will."
Gee thanks for giving Wests Tigers the courtesy mate!
Yeah these quotes are complete self-serving dribble. From what he's said, pretty much no one has the money for his player but everyone has been really nice to him."We will probably give them the courtesy of meeting up with them next week or the week after," he said.
