Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Hetherington would be well known to everyone if it wasn't for Pat Carrigan. In reality he is a starting lock stuck behind one of the greats.

He is exactly what our pack needs.

Would be a fantastic signing.
He'd be a great buy and even better if he could bring his mate Katoni Staggs with him. He would be a much better acquisition than Bird perhaps for similar $.

While I stand by what I've said there, I don't expect the same result with the signing of the Panthers pair coming next year.

I don't know about this guy Skelton, he couldn't crack it at the Dogs but the Rah Rah guys reckon he's a gun. He's getting payed peanuts though compared to some of the so called "Marquis" signings the Tigers have had in recent years that have turned out to be monumental flops.
In the case of Skelton not cracking it at the dogs he is in his second year over from rugby and is stuck behind 2 of the better wingers in the comp

He doesn’t generally play many minutes when the Broncos are full strength, so that would effect his metres gained stats.
I can’t help but think the other Qld based clubs will also be jumping in the queue to sign him if he becomes available, so it will take a lot th get his signature.
He is the all effort type of competitor that we need so it’s good to see we are at least hunting these types of players.
Was a fan of the Bronco prop; Willison; but was not overly impressed watching him the other day.
Anyone have his stats?

Bulldogs formula = hard working mobile pack with great edge defence. Crighton right & Kikau left are the glue to either side.

We go with Hethrington from the Broncs & Leo Thompson. Add in Pole, Twal, Seyfarth, Sam Fainu I think we achieve a similar middle to what they have. Korosaui trumps Mahoney & Latu offers more than Mann or Morrin.

The wingers & centres next year need to have D as their greatest asset than attack. With Luai & Galvin the points will come.

I watched the Broncos v Eels on the weekend & actually at the time thought the momentum changed when Hetherington came on at 0-16 - he brought line speed in defence & fast, strong carries in attack. He failed a HIA close to HT with the Broncos back in the game.
Kobe would be a great signing, but gotta pay the $$$ to get him outta qld where his family is. His brother is a solid hooker - qld cup for wynnum seagulls.

Plus most of the dog's fans are pissed his going as they believe he is the one they should be keeping. I think we have found a great buy but will need time too develop.

They've got a kid called Jake Elliott. They're sweet.

They've actually got a a few young guns in the works to replace the first graders they're losing. Robert Toia for Manu, Mark Nawaqanitawase for Suaalii, Ethan King for Tedesco, Jake Elliott for Keary, De Le Sale Va'a for JWH, etc. They have Blake Steep, Salesi Foketi, Suia Wong, Reece Foley coming through. The myth that Roosters don't develop is just that. They develop and they top-up what they don't have with buys, which is what every club should be doing rather than boasting about juniors.

Unfortunately, they'll be right. Roosters are a good operation and have prepared for this day, unlike their arch enemies at Souths, and they will remain a pain in the backside for every other club in the NRL comp.

WT needs to focus on developing Galvin properly rather than be worried about losing him.
Don’t forget them Va’a boys the chooks have them beasts also

If you want mobile & hard working- Mat Croker from the Knights is available right now. Jack Bird at centre upgrades the wide defence as well. Couple that with Kobe Hetherington & the middle is much tougher.

Pole might be mobile- but he's a hit & miss defender at this point. That needs to be monitored. Until that improves- he's a bench player.

Do you think we brought Turuva to play reserve grade ?
He's already playing there because salty Ivan wouldn't drop Tago who was stinking it up all year so instead he played an out of position Daine Laurie at wing, which has certainly backfired in the last 2 weeks. Hopefully it's a good experience for him, and to motivate him for next year to be more consistent like in 2023

I am 💯 certain Galvin stays with us regardless of the Roosters or anyone else wanting to sign him, providing we either make the top 8 or come very close to it in 2025.
Pole is more our immediate concern as he can sign elsewhere from November this year if we don’t re-sign him beforehand.
Sione Fainu is another concern as he is also one of the better younger emerging props currently on the free agent list, we cannot afford to lose him.
Sione should be any easier fix for now. He has never played better than has right now at the Tigers with his bros. He doesn’t wanna go anywhere. Just sign him on a good TandT and tell him we want him, and as soon as we have an opening for an internal upgrade you are top of the list. And keep your word.

The biggest thing I got out of Richo today was we offload a few more players & sign 2-3 players...

We don't have 3 spots currently...

I am interested in Bird in how that changes the look of the back line.

Is Bird the utility we want? Or an outside back. What's the mean for Douiehi?

Sullivan to go?

Douiehi could be the odd man out?
I don't think we'll see Olam on the paddock much next year, I may be wrong but he has a hell of a lot of rehabilitation ahead of him after surgery on both knees.
I wasn't overly sold on him from his performances this year, next year he'll probably be less mobile for a while as it is and that's not taking into account that some players are never the same after multiple knee surgeries.

Jack Bird on $400k-ish per season, for 2 years, playing centre, is a defensive upgrade on Doueihi & Faataape, at least in the short term. He brings experience & the right attitude, but has injury concerns.

But to get a player of the quality of Bird at those sorts of dollars, they generally come with a downside.

If we have solid depth (Faataape, Doueihi, Staines, Naden) in KOE that can fill in for 5-10 games a season, then having Olam & Bird solidifying the edges is perfectly acceptable risk.

You wouldn't put Bird in the middle because I just don't think he can hold up playing #13, but he COULD fill in there if required.

If we then add Cobbo for 2026...one of Olam or Bird makes way, then Makasini comes through...and suddenly our outside backs become a strength.

If we can't move Bateman- he & Bird on one side, with Fainu & Olam on the other...our edges look strong.
