Tyson Frizell vs Souths

4 runs
9 post contact metres
4 hit ups
76.19% tackle efficiency

Leo Thompson vs Souths
161 run metres
15 runs

12 hit ups
87.88% Tackle Efficiency

Let's be realistic here

Talk about putting BS on stats… he didn’t play half a game. You could basically swap those stats for their game against the Sharks….

His 3 games prior was over 100mtrs & 33 tackles a game.

In 17 games he is averaging 90mtrs, 30 tackles, 93% efficiency, 1 offload & few tackle busts a game this season.

His body is holding up ok also, still getting decent minutes and volume of games is good.

He would be a walk up starter for us everyday of the week regardless who we sign.

His declining man. He has been playing at 100% for far too many seasons. It may not happen next season but it will happen if we look to be his next contract.

Don’t disagree but to be fair to him thats his style play looking busted for years but still plays most games and posts decent numbers in a tough pack. He is a bloody hard and good trainer, doesn’t cut rehab corners either. Thompson has mentioned him a few times in interviews as well.

For the right price I see value in him, he is still playing NRL standard footy.

I don’t want retirement players but he is an exception in many aspects for a young side like us may boost some standards - hard worker/effort player with mongrel and doesn’t back off.

Kobe Hetherington & Tyson Frizell certainly goes some way to changing the look of the forward pack.

Watching 360 for what it's good for tonight- the way Tallis & Anasta talk about JWH is exactly what I've been trying to get at. Both of them WANT to play alongside that guy. The leader, enforcer, tone setter. They don't mind that he misses games, because the other forwards react to him.

I don't think our club has one of those guys, yet. Maybe a couple of these younger guys are THAT guy, but not yet.

I still think the club is short that enforcer. And from what is available, you kind of still have to manufacture that player through a few guys- as there is no "guy" available that just fits. So this is where your Horsbugh, Jack Hetherington types come in. Royce Hunt is not that guy, and he's not better than Pole & Sione Fainu, so I don't see the value.

Also, Pole & Klemmer between them have generated an enormous amount of post contact run metres. Sione Fainu, Sam Fainu & Twal also offer a number of good metres on the field. Making metres is not the issue. It's stopping the opposition from making them.

Richo talks about a couple of middles & a wide player. Then depth. Kobe & Jack Hetherington (or Mat Croker/Horsburgh) along with Tyson Frizell changes our defensive structure right away & Frizell is a weapon out wide- that's where you generate the big metres. I can see that working very nicely.

Benji played with him - he knows the standards Frizell abides too more than anyone.

There’s a reason Benji’s really pushing to get him here.
I fail to see how a 34 year old Frizell would be a better option than someone currently off contract such as Jack Williams ?
Williams is ideally a better 13 than he is on an edge, but even if he plays on an edge he’s a lot better quality than Frizell or Bateman at this stage of their careers.

Worth considering, but I would be looking for this years version of Sam Fainu beforehand. We had an experienced backrower in Bateman, I’m sure he offered just as much as other experienced back rowers off the field. I get he wasn’t the ideal player on the field, just a point on Frizell, knights signed him feeling he would be leader material, word is he isn’t vocal player. Not sure how that extends to the training paddock.

If the club isn't looking at Bird to play centre but still want to add another outside back, Isiaih Tass is still a great target I believe, and the underrated option would be Hayze Perham for next year.

I still believe the club might take a shot at a big name centre for 2026 (Cobbo)- but for next season, one more into the club mix...

As for forward depth signings- Liam Knight, Joe Stimson & Peter Hola would add solid lower grade depth that could step in if required. The strength of the KOE squad will be the young players- but I think it's important that at least 2 experienced players get added, just to help the kids not get overrun by men every week.

You realise we have 30 spots in our squad.

All our players don’t need to be young. It’s important to combine all our young players with some veteran leaders who have some experience and wisdom around the squad to get peak value.

The way Frizell trains and commits to this game I can easily see him playing at a high standard at age 33 and 34 providing value. Their isn’t a better veteran leader who’d be the perfect role model than Tyson Frizell.

I watch Frizell pretty closely he’s an absolute unit and always makes the effort plays. He hasn’t slowed down with age, he has a crack every time he goes on the field and sometimes that’s all you really want in a player.

I follow him on insta & him & his family seem pretty settled in Newcastle infact they’ve even bought & renovated a new home recently … would they be keen on a move back to Sydney?
