Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

three 13s on the market, all with their respective pros and cons: Adam Elliott, Corey Horsburgh, Kobe Hetherington. I think it simply comes down to what WT want at 13. all three are players with different skillsets and at different points in their career.

Hetherington is the least developed of all three, but would come cheap and is unshakeable in defence. also has a great passing game given he was a 9 before he transitioned.

Elliott is in his peak years and is having a great season, but would be looking for a decent deal in what will likely be his last NRL deal and isn't as good defensively as the other two.

Horsburgh lacks the ballplaying skillset as a lock but is a rock defensively and can turn a game on it's head on either side of the ball.

interesting times ahead and very interested to see what we decide to do.

Doesn’t Hethrington play front row?
Kobe is the younger of them and being a number 9 early in his career you would assume he could potentially play some 9 to give Api a break and potentially allow Latu Fainu to start as our 14 but come on and spend some time at 13.
I’m not so sure he would come cheap, my estimation says he’d be looking for around 400k if headiing to Sydney and be part of a team trying to rebuild.
The Titans also need a 13, so I’m thinking that’s where he ends up if leaving the Broncos.
Adam Elliott would bring toughness, hard running and decent ball playing ability, but at age 30 he could be on the decline, although he does keep himself in good physical condition.
Corey Horsburgh would be the bigger body with better go forward and would take pressure off our props in the yardage battle. He also has a good offload in his game, but lacks ball playing ability and his defensive line speed not as good at the other two.
I wouldn’t disregard Jack Williams either, he’s off contract, playing as well as ever and might want a regular starting spot at this stage of his career. The advantage with him is him being mobile enough to also play on an edge.

good call on the Titans. with Liu and Clark leaving they'll definitely be in the mix and Hetherington is a player Hasler would love to coach. he'll certainly be difficult to prise away from Queensland and they may well be in the box seat. I think St George will have a seat at the negotiating table as well.

Horsburgh is probably my second pick if Hetherington isn't attainable. Williams will stay at Cronulla, especially with Hunt coming to us.

Out of all locks available Corey Horsbrough is my pick easy! Just an old fashioned workhorse! You can put him at prop or lock and he would smash out 80 mins every week with ease! Huge workrate, rarely misses a tackle and got a great offloading game.
His stat sheet would look like:
20 runs 180 metres, 50 tackles and a bunch of offloads even a cheeky try assist.

Kobe Hetherington is the other one. Comes cheap, just wind him up and let him loose. Could also start and play big mins, defensively rock solid.

A pack like this would be 🔥

8. Royce Hunt
9. Api Korosaiu
10. Corey Horsbrough
11. Sam Fainu
12. Alex Seyfarth
13. Kobe Hetherington
14. Latu Fainu
15. Sione Fainu
16. Fonua Pole
17. Alex Twal

I hope Morgan Knowles was one Richo was talking to in the UK too but is an injury risk. At his best is better than those 3 IMO.

Another consideration is whether Benji sees Bird as a lock with Latu Fainu being transitioned into that role.

I actually don’t know how Bird fits into the structure 6-18mths down the track. He will be too slow for the backs. Won’t be in the halves. By that stage we should expect Latu or someone else to step into Lock.

For right price to uplift the squad depth maybe but comes across as a FOMO panic someone is available purchase.

In 25 can see Bird as a lock starting, maybe backrow at a pinch but post that transitional into rotation. So comes down to deal length and price.

Kobe/Corey can see them stating & rotations with easy benefits even if we nabbed both. They instantly give us an uplift.

I could be wrong, but I think we would be looking at him as a right edge specialist either in the back row or centre.
It’s quite important to have a player that is mobile enough to break tackles and has catch pass skill on the right edge and there is virtually nobody on the market who can do this except for Jack Bird.
As you know I rate Alex Seyfarth and am more than satisfied when he plays on our right edge, but he does not have the attacking ability of somebody like Bird.
We also need somebody who can defend well as our right centre and again there is nobody on the market that can help us in this regard, however Bird when he plays as a right centre is generally very strong defensively.
Obviously I wouldn’t like us to pay too much for him due to his age and injury concerns, but for the right price I think his versatility, experience and on field leadership woukd be great for us.

I also think that to get the best out of him you need to leave him in one position whether it be centre or back row
Personally I’d put him at centre as it would be nice to have a strong defence for a change

Cannot see that as being the case, as an ongoing relationship almost always becomes untenable once a club tells a player that they are free to negotiate elsewhere.
I seem to remember a former captain of ours sticking around after being told publicly he could leave.

Horsburgh is my 1st choice by a long way. Probably Elliot 2nd and I am not sold on Kobe Hetherington. If we do end up signing him, I hope to be proven wrong, but I just don't think he would make a difference for us.
