Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I actually don’t know how Bird fits into the structure 6-18mths down the track. He will be too slow for the backs. Won’t be in the halves. By that stage we should expect Latu or someone else to step into Lock.

For right price to uplift the squad depth maybe but comes across as a FOMO panic someone is available purchase.

In 25 can see Bird as a lock starting, maybe backrow at a pinch but post that transitional into rotation. So comes down to deal length and price.

Kobe/Corey can see them stating & rotations with easy benefits even if we nabbed both. They instantly give us an uplift.

The only couple of positives i see with Bird is, he won't block a pathway and he plays multiple positions. On his day he's ok probably plug a hole at centre until Makasini or Large come knocking down the door. Or in the backrow or bench. Or even until we can pick up a top centre or backrower when they keep shaking the tree.

Yeah .. not a fan .. St George didn’t want him past the end of 25 … and Flanagan is his long term mate apparently ..would know him a lot better than BM

three 13s on the market, all with their respective pros and cons: Adam Elliott, Corey Horsburgh, Kobe Hetherington. I think it simply comes down to what WT want at 13. all three are players with different skillsets and at different points in their career.

Hetherington is the least developed of all three, but would come cheap and is unshakeable in defence. also has a great passing game given he was a 9 before he transitioned.

Elliott is in his peak years and is having a great season, but would be looking for a decent deal in what will likely be his last NRL deal and isn't as good defensively as the other two.

Horsburgh lacks the ballplaying skillset as a lock but is a rock defensively and can turn a game on it's head on either side of the ball.

interesting times ahead and very interested to see what we decide to do.
I would go with Hetherington. Hungry for a first grade starting spot and would work his ring off to secure it. Plenty of upside in him and would be good value I expect.

We are in a tricky spot with Latu atm. Think he is in a bit of a holding pattern atm. We can get him in as a fill in 9 or build him into a 13. Problem is if Galvin leaves he's our future 6. I'd be pushing to find out where Galvin is at, if it feels like he's just using us as a stepping stone then I would throw Latu in at 6 and let Galvin fill in at 9 or 13 till he leaves. Why should we potentially stunt Latus growth if Galvin is leaving.
I think Latu can be our Connor Watson/Tyran Wishart. Ideal 14 and that position is so important now. Playing a specialist hooker at 14 is a complete waste

And yet....he's played centre and no backrow for the Dragons exclusively all season..

No he hasn’t … he has been at 6 the past few games at least…

BTW - The last player you were pushing for them to sign in the backline was Ravalava… only last month wasn’t it?… I hear he might be available…

Yeah but he scored 20 tries and averaged over 130m per game in 2023, when was the last player we had with those stats ?
I’d still take him if the Dragons were willing to subsidise his wage, so he was on a contract that didn’t hurt us if he was only playing NSW Cup if his form didn’t warrant playing NRL.

Yeah … but we are looking for him to play in 2025

We've signed To'o apparently 🤣 who needs Ravalawa

Well that remains to be seen, I can’t see Penrith releasing him when there is no suitable replacements available.
I’d definately take a chance on Ravalawa possibly rediscovering his best form if we only had to pay him a maximum of 200k per season as for that money it is very little risk.
