LIVE GAME Round 27 vs. Eels

Live Game Discussion
I'd suggest Bellamy and Bennett would have achieved the most success with this team. I'd also argue that some of the other coaches such as Stuart and Fitzgibbon would have got more wins. Benji may end up a good coach, I don't know, but he is just too inexperienced to be head coach at this time.
Might have to agree to.disagree here. Dolphins placed 10th this year with a much better team than us.

Bellamy has years of stability and a proven system to fall back on. Not saying they are bad coaches, just saying no coach would have fixed this mess overnight and to expect it from Benji who also has inexperience on his side, is maybe a little.bit much to ask.

I will reserve judgement until next year when we have some decent recruits.

If the same disaster happens next year, I'll move to the sack Benji camp.

Rubbish….

Flanagan did much better with his dragons than we did - their side isn’t much better on paper than ours…

I might add - there’s at least 4 (conservatively) big name players in this squad that by any mans measure under achieved this year (and last)

That doesn’t happen at Bennett and Bellamy coached sides…

Benji may or may not be a good coach, but it's a legitimate question to ask which coach could have done much better with the team we had this year?
Answer:
Shane Flanagan. Could have gotten us within the top 8.

Why?

Look at St George roster compared to ours. Honestly, on paper the Dragons are a far worse a team then us.

Why do we need another disastrous year to prove that the hard decision to replace a useless coach should have been made earlier rather than wehen another season has been wasted. The players we have signed so far (other than Luai) are journeymen. They need an experienced coach to mould them into a competitive side. Anyone that thinks Benji is that coach are kidding themselves. Just wishing another spoon on us.

Are you seriously comparing Benji with the previous coaches? They had experiernce, just did not get results. Benji has no experience and wants to learn at our expense. He needs to undertake the apprenticeship that other first grade coaches have had. He seems to think he is entitled to this job for some reason?

I was hoping we'd get Flanagan too. So what do we do now? Sack Benji and get Flanagan?

Or just complain that we didn't get Falanagan and get another coach that will have us with Max 8 wins a season?

Not being rude, it's just we are all great at complaining, but no one has solutions.

Flanagan ain't coming....who's next?

This is the point exactly. If it was just a coach thing, we'd be doing better as a club the last 5 years.

The issues are deeper than that and only now are those issues getting the attention they deserve. Benji, good coach or not, is a secondary issue at the club.

Let's look at the wider point being made.

Put aside what you think of Benjis coaching credentials. Everyone already knows hes got no experience.

Better coaches than him have had a crack at the club and not one could get us to the finals. Not even the great Ivan Cleary who has gone on to build one of the greatest dynasties in modern football.

The issues are deeper than Benji. Only this season have management been able to actually run the club properly. You can see that in our recruitment.

i just dont get why people bag him apart from we came last again, but plenty of coaches with more experience ,really havent done much better than him-i said a few times tht i think ,want ,hope that Benjie has something with the new kids on the block.few more years yet, better things ahead than rotating a coach every 18 mths wont fix

Unfortunately the coach is a main factor with progress of your club irrespective of other issues at the club. At the end of the day , its about winning games. When that happens the other issues disappear off the radar.
I do not see Benji as leading this club to success.

Ben Hunt
Tyrell Sloane
Moses Suli
Jayden Sua
Jack Bird
Zac Lomax
Jacob Liddle
Jack De Belin
Luciano Leilua

There's 3 origin reps in there alone. The rest proper first graders.

tough to see how we are a better side on paper, but I'm open to being corrected.

I'm just trying to play devil's advocate here in saying, maybe Benji is a quick learner and has been able to soak up lots of good info for coaching purposes from the various coaches he has played under?
But I do agree with you that on the surface Benji is very inexperienced at this time to be filling the role of head coach.
