Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Ok.

Pole has not yet re- signed for 2026 and could be released in the offseason like Blore was if he signs elsewhere
Big call I know but I'd be ok with that. If he's not in for the crocodile roll and signs elsewhere for 2026, I'd look into the option of an early release if and a big IF there was a no nonsense middle still available for a 1 year + 1 year option.

Just outta left field:

Can I ask who you would prefer to keep next year … Pole v klemmer.. assuming you could only keep 1?
That’s just not a good question, Klemmer is signed so unless he agrees to move , ur question is baseless . YES we need to sign pole up , he is a good young player, who will only get better

Maybe POLE is waiting to see how we preform next year , just like Galvin , if we don’t get it right next year the hole house could come tumbling down , that’s why getting 4 new forwards who can bend the line and shore up are defence is so important

Know how many tackles Klemmer missed in the last 6 weeks?

4. While making 113 tackles.

Fonua Pole in the last 6 weeks?

21 missed tackles, while making 146.

Klemmer missed 17 tackles all season, making 455. Pole, 64, making 536.

This is a team that cannot defend. This is why Klemmer has value. I like Pole- but the difference in opinion between Klemmer & Pole is light years apart.

Klemmer made 2,023m running this season. Pole, the better attacking player- 2,489m.

Pole made 1009 post contact metres to Klemmer's 846.

For reference, Utoikamanu had....990 post contact metres while missing 46 tackles, making 661.

Royce Hunt has made 1,010m, made 209 tackles & missed...22.

I would suggest that Klemmer is a victim of not being 'spectacular'. He doesn't make big, bustling charges, skittling 15 defenders & bursting through the line.

He also doesn't miss chunks of tackles through the middle that often resembles a freeway for opposition forwards.

"Experts" talk about the 1% plays. Ugly defensive stats, charges where you are running head long into an unwinnable contest. Staying in the contest. I wonder how many people take notice of these 1% plays when the opposition run through gaps left by Pole, Utoikamanu, Sione Fainu etc.

This team needs more David Klemmer's, to let the Sam Fainu, Pole, Hunt attacking abilities take effect. We can't win 61-60. We need to stop other teams from walking through the middle. Why do you think we are looking at defensive oriented #13's at the moment?
Forget the stats Klem is a warrior but past it. He gets dominated and takes forever to play the ball. Defensively makes his tackles but never dominates and we get rolled through.
I don’t think he will be in the 17 next year.

people are questioning his defence … thoughts?
I don’t see any major issues with his defence.
Sure we don’t want him missing any tackles, but the ones he does miss are generally due to late reaction time with his lateral movement.
Pole is one of the best young power forwards in the game and it is a priority that we keep him, but we also cannot afford to pay too much for him too soon.
The ideal scenario is to add another experienced hard prop to play alongside him and assist his development, either Reagan Campbell-Gillard or Daniel Saifiti would be ideal.

That would be pretty smart of him … he certainly has some leverage at the moment with Stef leaving

If we perform well it actually works in our favour as we don't need to offer as much money. If we perform well people will want to play for us. Risky business for players delaying their contracts, look what happened to Sam walker.
