Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Would RGC be a good signing on $600 per year , over a 3 year deal , he would be good for us
The way the cap is I would take him at $ 600 x 3 years , you will get 2 out of him no problem , he is injury free , plays big minutes , add the guy coming back from Pommy land that folks on hear are talking about today , that would be 2 good gets , leaves Richo 1 more to grab

Sport confidential can reveal Staggs wants to stay long-term and will only test his value on the open market if he can’t strike a new deal at Red Hill in the coming weeks. The clock is ticking for the Broncos to secure the centre before he is eligible for free agency on November 1.

It is understood the Broncos have yet to table a new deal for Staggs, giving Brisbane seven weeks to upgrade the flyer before he can weigh up lucrative offers from NRL rivals. Staggs is settled in Brisbane and his preference is to remain at the Broncos, who are confronting a salary-cap squeeze with the club having to upgrade Reece Walsh and Selwyn Cobbo. The backline trio are all off-contract at the end of the next season and while the Broncos are confident they can retain all three, it won’t be a cheap exercise within the constraints of the salary cap.

Fair enough, I get the sentiment though imo it's been obvious this year that Pole should have been our priority, maybe in time and under Bellamy Stephano will prove me wrong.
In moments it’s very obvious who the more talented player is. Stef just didn’t give us many moments this year.

Adding the best tackle busting prop to the minor premiers is a pretty scary thought.

Pole shows promise, but not sure he’s as good as hyped on here sometimes.

Have we signed a pommy forward?

Sione Mata’utia is an experienced backrow option returning to Australia.

He would be handy as long as we do not pay him anymore than 250 and he is viewed as a depth signing to compete with the likes of Alex Seyfarth as our number 15 who is versatile and can play on an edge, in the middle or in the centres if required.
Obviously form permitting he could earn himself a starting edge back row spot if he is playing well enough.
There is no doubt we need someone who will not take up too much salary cap space but provides depth in our back row.
The only two worthwhile recruits who fit this description look to be either Sione Mata’utia or Billy Burns who is also off contract and would likely cost a little bit less.

There was a rumour on here a few months back from someone claiming they knew a few things that Cobbo was Richo's actual target & sees him as a future Greg Inglis type.

Pieces are potentially falling into place..

You'd get a couple of years out of Mata'utia. He's the right type of backrower I'd look for.

Suggested him a few times when Richo went to the UK & was told vigourously that he was no good. I guess time changes everything.

The so called media experts can say what they like, but it’s highly likely our 2025 team will have 8-9 new recruits, therefore it will be a much different team to what we fielded in 2024.
My prediction is we will end up with new recruits being both wingers Skelton and possibly Marcelo Montoya, Turuva as one of our centres, Luai at 6 or 7, Bird as our starting right edge back rower, hopefully either Kobe Hetherington or Jack Williams as our starting 13, hopefully either Reagan Campbell-Gillard or Daniel Saifiti as one of our starting props, Royce Hunt as either a starting prop or a bench rotation prop and potentially someone such as Sione Mata’utia as part of our bench rotation.
That would be a lot of change, but when you run last 3 years straight, a lot of change is required.

I think only Bula, Api, Galvin & Sam Fainu have a mortgage on starting jerseys in 2025, maybe Pole if he has a strong pre-season. Hopefully they gel quickly and the misery years are done. Need 5-6 wins in the first half of the season.

We are only about 3 good quality signings away from giving ourselves every chance in regards to having a competitive playing roster to work with.
If we sign 3 more quality players it is over to Benji as he will no longer have an excuse that our roster is not good enough.

Bulldogs or Roosters the only likely options, Penrith maybe too, he may reduce his price tag in the hopes of chasing a premiership at the roosters or riff
I reckon Dogs.
He has a connection with Gus and Ciraldo.
Gus extended him on the four year deal at Penrith before Ivan arrived and moved him on.
On that same note I don’t see him going to Penrith whilst Ivan is coach.

In addition about mid year my dogs mate was mentioning the dogs were looking likely to be picking up Royce Hunt, so they have the cash to get it done I reckon.

I think you will find the Bulldogs are coming to the realisation that with the bit of success they are having means their well performed players such as Jacob Kiraz, Bronson Xerri, Toby Sexton should they manage to retain him, Jacob Preston, Bailey Hayward etc are all wanting pay rises and if they want to keep them happy and extend their contracts they will need come up with the extra cash which means they will not have much to spend on any additional players for 2025.

Yeh, funnily enough I just read an article that rules out the dogs due to cap money and has us and the Roosters as the two most likely destinations.
Stranger things have happened.

From a FOX Sport Article:

If all else fails, the Tigers shape as RCG’s likeliest destination given the club’s desperate need for middle forwards, and experienced heads.

Young star Stefano Utoikamanu and Isaiah Papali’i have already exited the club, with John Bateman likely to follow them, leaving a hole in the middle of Benji Marshall’s side.

Enter Campbell-Gillard?

The towering middle could be exactly what the club needs; an ex-Origin and Australian star with plenty of footy left in him to mentor and motivate the club’s crop of promising young middles, including Fonua Pole and Sione Fainu.

And unlike some of the other club’s mentioned, the Tigers may have the cap space to squeeze RCG into their roster, helped by the trio of aforementioned departures.

Junior Tupou also departs the club at the end of the year, while Aidan Sezer appears likely to exit Concord at season’s end.

Add to this the arrivals of Jarome Luai, Sunia Turuva, Royce Hunt and Jack Bird, mixed with the Tigers’ impressive core of young stars spearheaded by Lachlan Galvin, and there’s something brewing at the Tigers.

Campbell-Gillard would add to this immensely, and his signing would only further confirm Benji Marshall’s side as a club on the rise.

But they also signed Sitili on 650k which would have eaten away at some of their minimal cash reserves. Depends if they can offload JAC's contract which it doesn't look like they will be able to (legally).

Upgrade Selwyn Cobbo to push Staggs out the door? That's crazy talk.
