Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Bloody hell i watch a snippet from must have been that 100% league show Gould is on and it didnt paint a pretty picture for JAC. If they haven't already there goes his contract free's up huge coin for them. Wouldn't surprise me if someone spiked his drink and then the copper's were tipped on his whereabouts. Anything to get out of an over priced contract, they've been looking to shaft JAC for the best part of 12 months.
He could be a handy pick up on the cheap $2-300 could get him over now he's blown up his career.
Steph is in for a huge rude awakening when he gets down there I reckon.
And hopefully, Bellyache as well?
I know we have been let down with older players of late , but as I have stated before NEXT YEAR has to be the turning point we fail to make the 8 or just miss out , it will set our club back another 5-10 years , the kids will be lining up to jump ship , THIS is where we need a very strong FORWARD pack , so that are gun 1/2s can go forward , if it means giving RCG a 3 year contract at $600 to $650 , I say do it , he punches holes in attack and is a good defender, no one knows how he will preform over 3 years but then again he might fall of the tree after 1year , we bought a GUN 1/2 and have a GUN 5/8 and a improving fullback , but they need a strong pack , I think it’s worth the Risk
He reminds me a bit like Tyson Frizel [33yrs next month]. Turns up every game.
Rarely injured, strong attack and defence and plays long minutes.
IMO worth the risk $600 x 3 yrs. We need a strong pack to keep young gun backs happy.

Talk is he's likely to accept playing in the Newcastle Comp so a decent Train and Trial deal or min wage may be enough to get him
If we could get him on any cheap deal that was outside the top 30, but where he is still available to play NRL if needed would be an astute buy. If he’d take a TandT I’d be in. Experience and versatility.

He would be handy as long as we do not pay him anymore than 250 and he is viewed as a depth signing to compete with the likes of Alex Seyfarth as our number 15 who is versatile and can play on an edge, in the middle or in the centres if required.
Obviously form permitting he could earn himself a starting edge back row spot if he is playing well enough.
There is no doubt we need someone who will not take up too much salary cap space but provides depth in our back row.
The only two worthwhile recruits who fit this description look to be either Sione Mata’utia or Billy Burns who is also off contract and would likely cost a little bit less.
Sione Matautia would be a great buy. He has been playing good football for the St Helens over the past few years covering both backrow and centre. Much better depth coverage or even starting backrow - runs hard, good defense and has been part of a winning set up at St Helens.
No brainer for me.

If he does….

He may need to re-watch the Dragons semi in 2010…
Should never have lost that game
Benji prime won games in 15 minutes when its was all over. Clutch wasn’t a word then, but free running brilliance was his thing. Cleary does it more methodical. Benji didn’t have the game control and when at his best was a running 6 with a Scott Prince controlling the game even with Lui. Benji changed the game for all his flaws. laui, galvin, latu, even TDS are exciting if they gel. Add bula third year. The dogs have shown how smaller mobile packs committed to defense can work. I spoke to Matt Scott the other day at a charity event and he was 18th man in 2005 GF. He said as much as he and cowboys hate the tigers, the tigers forwards that year were a big part of their success and so hard to handle. Nice guy, but the cows hate us still 😂

And told Aiden Tolman after we played them “Keep my jersey warm”. Fast forward a year, they are both at the Dogs and Woods gets moved on, and Tolman remains. A couple years later, they both find themselves at the Sharks. Again, Woods is moved on and Tolman remains. God, I love that story.
Yep, I know the story well. I knew Tolmans bro through work at the time, they are good stock.
Woods was a pea heart compared to Tollman.

Can't think of a career more ruined by a greedy manager than Woods..had $800k for half a decade ahead of him at the club which he postcode tattooed on himself..chased short term $ and ended up reserve for reserve grade at a club that had no respect for him without history or legacy.Isaac Moses destroyed his career

Get used to it. Getting the spoon for the third year in a row is an invitation to bash WT at every opportunity all off season.
I’ve met Corey. He cops a lot of flack. But he is so true on this. We’ve had no defensive resolve for so long. He had ticker! Ivan Cleary got a bit more out of us. That’s now a long time ago. Our defensive effort, effort not skill, on the weekend was embarrassing. So many mates who support other teams tipped us to win. And are embarrassed for me. Biggest game in 4 years and we flopped - in defense! No heart or pride. It’s a losing culture that takes time to fix. We need winners who drive expectations and standards. We need leaders who hold people accountable in an environment where it is safe to call someone out. Good teams do post mortems after each game and each season. Melbourne are the best by far. Driven by Bellyache. He picks players by effort and if they eff up you get dropped. Accountability from top down is so key. I hope benji getd help as we are weak as puss in this department. We don’t play for each other in defense and no amount of attack will change that.

The so called media experts can say what they like, but it’s highly likely our 2025 team will have 8-9 new recruits, therefore it will be a much different team to what we fielded in 2024.
My prediction is we will end up with new recruits being both wingers Skelton and possibly Marcelo Montoya, Turuva as one of our centres, Luai at 6 or 7, Bird as our starting right edge back rower, hopefully either Kobe Hetherington or Jack Williams as our starting 13, hopefully either Reagan Campbell-Gillard or Daniel Saifiti as one of our starting props, Royce Hunt as either a starting prop or a bench rotation prop and potentially someone such as Sione Mata’utia as part of our bench rotation.
That would be a lot of change, but when you run last 3 years straight, a lot of change is required.
We can sign all the players we like but our losing culture is what we have to change. Api couldn’t do it. Will Laui? I think we need need more hard heads but we are expected to lose - stars and fitness doesn’t change the worst club in the last decade. But if these signings are combined with a winning culture and expectation / accountability then we might go like the dogs in 2026. I have low hopes for 2025 regardless. Who is driving standards in this joint? Richo needs time. Benji, as much as i don’t want him, needs time. Culture/Values/ accountability doesn’t happen overnight

SHARKS STAR EMERGES AS SHOCK FREE AGENT

Cronulla prop Oregon Kaufusi has emerged as a shock free agent as the Sharks fight to keep the in-form front rower along with 10 other players who are ready to hit the open market on November 1.

Kaufusi has an option in his deal for next season that he is yet to take up. Sport Con was told his preference was to stay at the Sharks but it is believed there has been interest from elsewhere given his form this year for the high-flying Sharks.

Cronulla are also facing a remarkable salary cap situation as they are down the prospect of $5 million worth of talent hitting the market on November 1, headlined by the likes of Braydon Trindall, Briton Nikola, Cam McInnes, Ronaldo Mulitalo and Teig Wilton.
