2025 Assistant Coach Options

There's a few assumptions here imo.... I'd. Like to know when Benji stated:
Benji is struggling and has excused himself as it’s his “rookie year”.

Also, when did Farah say 'no' to Marshall, in what context and I'm almost certain he wasn't sacked
Benji has said it that it’s his rookie year at least a couple of times during his press conferences. You can sift through them.

That’s using his inexperience as an excuse. He’s happy to do so. A matter for him.

Robbie had a squabble about Api:

Here we go:

He wasn't sacked, he wanted to go and was going regardless.

I'm not sitting though hours of a sessons pressers... I rarely watched them depressing enough was the footy we played
If he said it several times surely you can remember one game which it was... I highly doubt it

I like that approach, I’d go as far as having him as an actual assistant coach, as I think that’s what Benji needs.
Well that’s probably right, but Benji is the head coach and they are meant to do his bidding.

So my idea is one where their isn’t any direct power relationship involved. Benji can speak freely about his own shortcomings and discuss his errors without any consequence.

That’s a mentor.
He still needs a quality experienced assistant coach.

You think it's bad for a younger coach to tap into the knowledge of a mentor, particularly when that mentor is Nick Saban?
Funnyt thing is Eberflus has coached more NFL games than Saban. Both have an NFL win record of less than 50%

It was how simplistic the advice was, he was literally telling an NFL head coach where to stand so he can see what the QB sees.

I could have given him that advice and I think an NFL coach should have that understanding.

This is a theory about who the new assistant coach may be. I was listening to Woodsy's podcast with Chris Lawrence (I posted the link in the Signing Rumours & Suggestions thread) and he talks about how so many current NRL coaches & assistants were players under Sheens.

I wonder whether Benji wants the new assistant to have this experience so it's an easier transition to coach the style he wants to coach.

And I'm going a step further by reducing the list to players who Benji played with given he big he is on trust.

So 3 names I'll put forward under this theory are ...

- Brett Hodgson (name already dropped to Brent Read last week)
- Gareth Ellis
- Scott Prince (current Broncos NRLW coach, in semi-finals for 2nd consecutive year)

Another one who wasn't a player under Sheens but an assistant coach to him for one season (when Benji played in that team in 2012)

- Steve Georgallis (current Eels NRLW coach)

If that's the case then punt Benji & his stupid love affair for Sheens. He hasn't achieved anything of note in the game for 19 bloody years

As much as we all want a hard- nosed old school, disciplinarian, defence minded coach- it needs to be Benji who decides almost 100% who he wants.

I am starting to gravitate towards a recently retired player who has pushed his own boundaries day in, day out.

We need to manufacture leadership. I wouldn't mind like a 40 year old fierce trainer who leads the time trials, trains with the team to show them how it's done.

We all want a tactical advantage, but tactics don't matter much in current football and that's why Sheens has been unsuccessful for so long. The fittest team wins games more often than not.

Hey Lauren, the reason i suggested Dean Pay as tackling have you seen how are blokes actual try to tackling?? a lot of them get the bare basic's wrong do not worry about MMA coach get the technical side down pat and then work on the rest.
That's our problem.... We "don't worry" about so many little incidentals preferring to just go basic... It's lazy and highly unprofessional and why we are where we are

I think there would be many experienced assistant coaches who would not want to work under Benji. Assistant coaches still want to learn from the head coach and I don’t believe there is much, if anything, that Benji could teach them. Further, it would be odd and unsettling when the assistant coach is the far superior coach.

This happened at my old workplace a few years ago. A new younger inexperienced boss was put in place. 90% of the staff left within 2 years. It’s embarrassing taking orders from someone you are clearly more competent than.

That's a very good point.

One of many.

Farah was given his marching orders.

I’m not convinced Sheens is high on Benji’s list of respected mentors. I feel Wayne is someone closer to Benji and the attempted style of coaching.
Though if the same theory was applied; are there any Wayne assistants that could be a decent option?
