Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

This season:

Twal: 26 tackle breaks, 565 post contact metres, 6 offloads, avg metres 80, tackling 97.2%, line breaks 0.
May: 64 tackle breaks, 1087 post contact metres, 40 offloads, avg metres 110, tackling 97.75%, line breaks 6.

May is also 3 years younger, and a far superior player.

Yes it's easier to look good in a better team with better players but May was still largely a bench prop and still punched out very impressive stats.
Twal unfortunately is a reserve grader at best, he would not make any other NRL team.

Dolphins are the last club that would need JAC, they already have Isaako, Bostock and Junior Tupou.
The only possible landing spots for JAC are Parramatta where it is highly likely he will be in 2025.
The Panthers might have a look at him if he comes cheap enough for them, otherwise Wests Tigers if we believe he is a better option than Charlie Staines.
I’ve always been a Charlie Staines fan, but was disappointed with his lack of impact last season. If we could sign JAC for no more than 350k for 2025 and was able to offload Staines to accomodate him, than why not.
Charlie Staines is one player I want us to keep.
Give him 1 season with Luai. 2022 he was playing a grand final and him linking up with Luai + Turuva who is used to the Penrith system. Who knows.

I even wonder if Naden would improve with Luai around.

When we talk about trading players, we miss the team aspect. Naden, Luai, Staines and Api kinda know of each other and have played together. Add Turuva who has a good combo with Luai then we see a backline that knows where people will be, what they will do.

Naden has to go, he is way too busted. But we should stop punting Staines immeaditly and see how he goes with a Penrith winger and 5/8 around him.

Staines WT days are numbered. Makasini will take his spot in 2026. He won’t be retained.

How so ?
Neither of them is overly big or fast.
Neither of them carry the ball aggressively enough to steamroll opposing defenders.
Neither of them demonstrate much footwork.
Neither of them hit hard in defence.
However both are very hard workers who you can rely on to make their metres, make their tackles and do the hard work that often goes unnoticed.
May scored 6 tries this year that’s four more than Twals career tally, if you even call them tries they fell in his lap🤦‍♂️.
TB’s 64-28 and Offloads 40-6, and Twals best part of his game; May has a better tackle %.
I like Twal (at the price we pay him), but it’s not even close. May is a starter for any top 8 team and Twal would possibly be a benchy in the same team if they couldn’t find better.

Good points you raise.
It’s hard to work out why Staines or Naden have not played well for us as they both have plenty of good qualities, but it just hasn’t worked for some reason.
You could be right and the addition of Luai could be just what is needed to get the best out of them.
I think it’s highly unlikely Naden gets another chance under Benji, but you never know.

I don’t think there is much difference.
One thing for certain, we desperately need Bula to go to another level and play like he did against the Cowboys at Leichhardt much more consistently if we are to make a big improvement as a team in 2025.

I know at times we haven’t agreed on thoughts of players but May is already miles ahead of Twal. He averaged 110mtrs & 97.75% tackle effectivness mostly off the bench this year in a packed forward rotation. He is a workhorse but a big body quality one that has size and some speed. Add in offloads and some try scoring as well. He had a career jump season that Twal could only dream of.

If May is an option we would be bonkers not putting our hat in the ring for the right price.

I like Twal and want to keep him but May is far superior player of the 2 now.

FMD Four of them are favourites to end up immortals 😂
Actually I just looked up the 17 from their first stripped GF. Only 1 of the 17 didn't play Origin or for NZ at some point of their career. Not bad for a bunch of nobodies.
That other 1 bloke did date Miss Australia so he did pretty well for himself as well.

I don’t mind Terrell May either, but I think his stats are inflated by playing alongside some top quality team mates, not so sure he’d be as effective if playing for Wests Tigers.
He was largely ineffective playing for Samoa, that’s a concern.

There’s a bit of AFB in him. You said he doesn’t have foot work. That’s a poor observation imo, it’s actually his point of difference to the other props in the roosters pack. Granted he isn’t the most aggressive prop but he isn’t what you would call a plodder either.
I will agree that he won’t stand up as much at the Tigers as he did at the Roosters but he would be our pack leader for certain.
I feel he is heading to the Dogs though so it’s probably a mute point.
