Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I’m interested to see who Souths are planning to play in the backrow next year with Koloamatangi moving to the middle, Chee Kam and Milne leaving the building and Murray out for the first part of the year.
Might be freeing up a spot for Tallis Duncan to start alongside Host if he is still there or Arrow if he has recovered from his Shoulder / back problems.

They signed Euan Aitken who probably starts on one edge .

To'a was our best outside back for a couple of years. It's not really saying much, but he's a solid player who can be very good on his day. When fit he should be starting in the centres.

Getting rid of Sullivan would be a great move if we could. Moving on he and Bateman would make this offseason such an incredible success.

I don’t agree … I think he has been a disappointment …. It’s frustrating because as evidenced in that one game against the cowboys …he can play at a high level …

he needs a total attitude adjustment and a lot of work on his strength and conditioning, if he is going to be a worthwhile contributor to the team … similar to what Talau went through last offseason at Manly

I think we may need to give some of these fringe 1st graders some grace like Naden, To'a etc..
The last 2 years they have been playing with sub standards teams and this year they will have the best team around them who WILL hold them accountable and set standards.

IF we can somehow offload Bateman and Sullivan this would end up been the best offseason in the club's history. So excited for the coming season.

Whether they start the year in the first choice 17 or not, they (To'a, Naden and other similar guys) are players that we will need to kick it up a notch too. At one point or another they will get a chance through injury/suspension. As you said, they now have the players to hold them accountable, so hopefully it lifts their game.

Naden is about to turn 29…eventually you just gotta cut bait sometimes …

Toa COULD be a different story …is still young enough and is signed another two years …( thanks again Pascoe) ….so more incentive to persevere with him … he has been training and playing with the NRL squad for about 5-6 years now here and in Newcastle ….clock is ticking to show us he can do it consistently…I’ll believe it when I see it …although Talau made a liar out of me last season ( unfortunately doing so at Moanly)…

The kid has skills. A lot of these kids do. Go to training enough and you’ll see great things from Luke Laulilii, Feledy, and Saukuru too. But its training, not the repetitive grind of games, and yesterday’s 50 minute fluff session for the fans is the least reliable of the lot.
This is what people don't always understand... you can't just throw kids into the grind of an NRL season, most of them aren't up to it.

Tigers have a terrible habit of throwing kids in too much too early, then their form dips or they get injured. The Roosters are great at it, they'll give guys like Walker and Latrell a couple weeks back in reserve grade to build confidence and get their bodies right

Makasini is no doubt a freak - but we can be patient with him. I hope he gets a few games in '25 but no need to throw him to the wolves.

We should make a BIG play at Staggs in the mean time. He is a freak and one of the games best centres.

Disagree. Good enough. Old enough.

The only way to get experience in a role is to do it.

Much like knocking Benji as a head coach, there is no better experience than doing the job.

We have already lost Large. Cant lose Big Mak.

there aren’t any “absolute “ rules ….Galvin played pretty much a full season at 18 years old and certainly wasn’t out of place at NRL level…

Doesn’t mean that isn’t a very rare situation at that age though and no guarantee that Makasini would be able to do it as well…. But …you never know …

anyone know when he turns 18 btw?

Aitken likely on one side. The other could be any of Duncan, Kaloamatangi, Schuster or Arrow.
