Cricket Season Thread

Watching this old clip of Brett Lee targeting tailenders. And it got me thinking what if this ended in a Phil Hughes like manner. Would he have been in hot water? I think he would have been because there waa clear intent to harm. This wasn’t the only time he did this either. There was another time a batsmen pulled away, and despite that, Lee followed through, followed him and still bounced him. Real POS behaviour that

How did you even find this video? 3 years old and 21 views.

Henrique is a professional T20 player .There is a growing crop of players that can now roam the world picking up T20 franchise gigs everywhere
Its played Havoc with the Windies and some countries trying to field competitive test teams when their most talented earn a fortune playing 20 over cricket or even 10 over cricket or even 100 ball cricket .
Guys like Tim David and Nathan Ellis have no interest in redball cricket .They get big bucks playing IPL ,BBL The 100 ! UAE LEAGUE . plus a Carribean gig and throw in a South African and even a Canadian and World league in North America ..What does it all mean ? NOT a Lot .So many comps with most cricket pundits not really interested in who wins .
I wish the BBL was in a different time slot like Feb /Mar so we could enjoy a real "Summer of Cricket " full of Australia playing other countries in Test and 50 over and even a few 20 over internationals
Note The IPL doesn't interfere so much with our International cricket but the BBL sure does
I can understand why Moises does it, he is 37 and had already played over 120 first class games.

Some of the younger guys will chase the money, some may have skills more suited to the shorter format.

I think Tim David had a go at red ball for WA but was never really successful

Don’t disagree but his contributions with both bat and ball would have to be better than Marsh at present.. Can’t think of to many batting all rounders who could do the job at test level who are fit. Probably better just throwing a bat in there and hope a four pronged bowling attack will get the job done
The top 5 simply aren’t strong enough to carry another bowler. Beau Webster is a better option or Hilton Cartwright assuming Aaron Hardie is still out. I’d rather see a proper bat at number 6 like Kurtis Patterson.

The BBL typical crowd tonight..Plenty of kids ( which is good ) but all wearing their bucket head hats and are basically the polar opposite of a test crowd
Test pundits are generally knowledgeable about the game but the BBL crowd only goes to see the 6 's being smashed eg Every kid wants a Jake Frazer McGuirk bat obviously "the worlds greatest batsman " LOL
The stats don't matter I guess

Think McSweeneys innings last night showed some serious resilience and talent.

So many batsmen before him have made their start batting 6 and moved up once they had the feel of test cricket. The selectors totally threw out convention when they picked him to open. I think that 6 spot should be his if Marsh isnt bowling

Any different from 8 year olds thinking the top try scorers are the best rugby league players

He's just not an opener, especially up against possibly the greatest fast bowler of the modern game. Possibly deserves another crack in the middle order.

I love both T20 and test cricket, forget ODI's though. That form bored me about 30 years ago.

McS has game. He was a young captain, came into the Heat T20 side as a replacement cemented his position and was soon the captain. It’s his shield numbers that are poor until this season. The biggest issue is why did they pick a mid order bat to open and then sack him when it turns out he can’t open? I guess they ain’t gunna sack emselves? He should have been moved down the order.
Bring in Konstas, drop Marnus, Head to 3 where you play your best bat, McS at five and Webster the new all rounder, hell drop Lyon too and bring in Murphy.

Think there would be a real risk in moving Head up the order. Could pay off but do you want to disrupt what he has going? Its up to the selectors to find the right top order players to lay the platform for Head to keep playing like Gilly.

I think Ashes next year we might/should be looking at:

Konstas
Green
Labuschagne (Patterson)
Smith
Head
Mcsweeney
Carey

I have a gut feeling Uzzie might call it this series

Patterson has to be putting some real pressure on Marnus

Green living up to his potential is the difference between a middling few years and staying at the top

Yeah that’s a fair call with Head, and I’d prefer my number 3 to be a traditional batsman (and still best batsman at 3 though)?
Which Green? The injured one?
Yeah I’d be keen to give Patto a crack, I sorta forgot about him when naming that side, he has recent form and at number 3. All I know is, there are/was options and these changes could have been filtered in over the series instead of making rash reactive decisions. My gripe is not with an out of form cricketer who wants to play as many games for Oz as possible, it’s with the selectors who couldn’t make the big calls earlier. All players wanna play as many games for their country as they can it’s only human, unless you’re Darren Lehman.

Interesting with the No.3 thing being the best bat. I tend to agree but it might be a dated idea in modern cricket (root, smith, kohli all batting 4 at their peak, williamson also spent some time there I think)

I think Cam Green was starting to figure out his game at test level last year. He could potentially be Australias big player they can build the team around for the next 10 years if his body holds up. Not sure if opener is his best spot (maybe more suited to no.4). He was a big out for this series.

Watching replays of India's 4 test series 4 years ago which we lost 2-1
After a easy win in the first test in Adelaide mainly because we bowled them out for 36 with the pink ball
We struggled after this
2nd test Melbourne lost by big margin mainly due to batting failures
195 1st innings 200 2nd innings
3rd test Sydney drawn due to weather and inability to take 5th day wickets
Lyon bowled huge no of overs for little return
4th test Brisbane lost in close one again due to inability to take 5th day wickets

It seems we have an ongoing issue with wrapping up the opposition in their 2nd innings
Seem to remember Capt Pat putting everyone out on the boundary and bowling short .he's tried this a few times and it doesn't work
Hoping lessons learnt going to Melbourne and Sydney
