Thanks mate, so the only value really is all tied to the licence, so if the N.R.L refused to reissue the licence then HBG and others wouldn't own anything, specifically in terms of the Wests Tigers. The owners do (HBG + others) but it's only as valuable as it is with the first grade licence.
If the NRL withdraw that, then HBG still would own the badge, fund the pathways etc and collect sponsorship revenue, but it would definitely tip into being more of a liability. Which is the reason most leagues clubs exist - to fund community sport.
99% of clubs would go bankrupt without the pokies. After some of the info posted about a club being run by one of the forum members in terms of the profit margins at that club, its all pokies money. If HBG didn't have pokies they'd be bankrupt. These people aren't business geniuses they're just located in the middle of a demographic that doesn't mind parting with a bit of their coin.
Hence why governments insist that they donate a percentage of poker machine profits back to community organisations.99% of clubs would go bankrupt without the pokies.
HBG would still own the badge and brand. So the NRL wouldn't be able to create a team called wests tigers, Western Suburbs magpies etc. Thanks mate, so the only value really is all tied to the licence, so if the N.R.L refused to reissue the licence then HBG and others wouldn't own anything, specifically in terms of the Wests Tigers.
Totally agree. In every review I’ve ever been involved with, as reviewer or the ‘reviewed’, you’ll agree with some recommendations disagree with others and partially agree with others. Some recommendations will be high priority, some will be medium and others low. For those you agree with you’ll assign a timeline based on priority and how long it will take to do it. For example if a recommendation is to replace a legacy computer system, you can agree with the recommendation but you can’t put a timeline on implementation so you agree to submit a business case for funding approval by a certain time. That’s a bit of a simplification but it’s the way these things play out. To suggest that reviewers all so wise that they get everything spot on is just not sensible.Time limits related to on field success makes sense. Years of repeated failures necessitates change. Hopefully that won't be for another few decades though!
It’s all about the constitution. Once that’s re-written to include the recommendations , then the make up of HBG will be irrelevant . If the threat of blowing up the tea party has spurred these sycophants into action … then good .Reads to me like Romero & co are on the backfoot and trying to save themselves. I bet my bottom dollar that the review recommendations are fully implemented & fast now. It will be all about them saving face & saving their debentures.
Well done WT Unite! We are a long way from there yet but this is very positive.
It is a very complicated answer.Tucker you bring up a really good point here that actually confuses me a wee bit so I'm sure someone can clarify it for me, but who actually owns the Wests Tigers. I know HBG have a 90% share and Balmain a 10% Share. I understand the N.R.L issue the licences. The N.R.L tip in upwards of around 13 mil a year. HBG put money in but do the N.R.L actually own the Tigers as the licence owner. What happens if the N.R.L refuse to reissue the licence do the Wests Tigers cease to exist.
If HBG decided to just walk away one day would that be the end of the joint. Who actually owns the Wests Tigers.
Absolutely disgraceful, absolute amature hour at HBG.
This is what I’ve wanted to know since day dot.It is a very complicated answer.
Wests Magpies PTY Ltd own 90% of the Wests Tigers PTY Ltd.
Wests Magpies PTY is owned 66% by the HBG 33% by the Western Suburbs District Rugby League Club.
The Balmain Tigers Rugby League Club owns 10% of Wests Tigers PTY LTD.
I wouldn’t say it was gifted. It was in exchange for the assets Balmain owned namely the Rozelle site but splitting hairs here really aren’t we?I'm sure this is an unintentional oversight, but Balmain only own 10% after it was gifted to them by Wests, following Wests paying off all of Balmain's debts.
Just in the interests of historical accuracy.
Go onto YouTube & search Wests Tigers Life, you can watch/listen to the podcast there. They have also just done another though it is only audio. The one with Rick Wayde is both video & audio. There are also several other podcasts from the last few seasons.I need to listen to this. Where's the link?
He has decades of radio experience. I remember him on (I think) 2SM back in the day. He’s very comfortable with a microphone.Rick's a great speaker. Very direct, clear and concise, lawyer like.
This interview was far from his best.
From HBG or Unite or other or no commentCan’t say too much but there will be some new content and another press release dropping tomorrow.

Fact of the matter is Balmain own 10% so that was an accurate answer to the question.
