Taking a wrecking ball to the club! (Recent Media Reports)

Why does anybody support Wests or Balmain though? Do they not have an NRL Team to support?

This is the core of the problem - this tightly holding onto the past thing that some seem to have.
No dramas remembering where you came from. My family was originally from Balmain so I was born into it and it holds a special place in my heart along with my Number 8 jersey as a kid given Pearcey was my favourite player growing up, but those days are gone. I support the Wests Tigers and have done for half my life so to be In a continual argument around Magpies or Tigers makes no sense to me.

I don’t think people give a toss which side of the merger you came from but get the shits having to continually justify not being against either Wests or Balmain.
think most supporters just don't give a toss about the technicality of how the club is run, just that for 25 years its been run worse then the local chook raffle, with less accountability. And its time to change that

Well, this was my gripe with the initial process...........it failed to focus on coaching, training staff, player procurement and junior talent identification. That's where the rubber hits the road. Our club has major discipline problems and fitness issues.

Wondering if anything has been addressed there?

Not to say management didn't need changing .........it's the process that's the problem.

Shane is a big upgrade , but ultimately his hitched his ride by doubling down on Benji........he will be judged on this.

I wonder what experience the petition organisers have in business, boards, conflict management and general people management.?

Too many ultimatums and threats.

The process is the problem caused by bad management and inconsistent decisions at the top. They’re accountable for the process & results after all.

Re Shane backing Benji. Benji was appointed and backed before Shane was on deck. That was ratified by the board. So will they leave if Benji experiment doesn’t work?

What about the NWRL team that sucks as bad as the NRL team or our junior teams that didn’t make the finals. We have a systemic issue across the board.

When should the board be accountable for continued poor performance? I mean they approved Lee’s control, they kept Pascoe on for years and years, they approved multiple new coaches & staff & player changes & strategies that never worked.

You keep mentioning about a “minority petition” yet a single person in Lee bought his fandom as a priority ticket holder and a significant controlling position which they allowed and stuffed us up right royal. It shows how poorly constructed the organization is setup at the top.

I don’t see anything happening to Benji. Firstly a lot of our new players came to play under him.
Second his position would only be in jeopardy if there was no ladder improvement this year and with the team we have now that doesn’t look likely.

well that basically takes it right back 2 the start

Every other club, the members nominate other members to positions on the board.

No prerequisite there either. You just have to be a member.

You could end up with Bob the bin man whose never seen a spreadsheet, or read a financial report in his life

That's how club boards work. And a club I was a member of.... That happened.

I'd wager the average competency of the HBG debentures is higher than many nominations from the floor at other clubs
Thank you @cdinoz007 for bringing a bit of sanity to this place 👏 👏 👏 🙂.

This is an interesting DT piece from September 2014. Coach Potter trying to remain positive (and tactful). How have we improved over the last decade???

“There’s some young players that have got some real good futures and the senior guys are very good to coach.

“I’d like to talk to the new board.

“It would be nice to have a conversation and present what I think we can do going forward.”

Smith admitted it’s taken “longer than we would have liked” to form the new board but said it would bring an end to infighting.

“We set out to unify the board because it’s a great club and the fans deserve it,” Smith said.

“What we have here is a board of five people with an extensive range of experience who are connected to the community and I think it will go from strength to strength.”

Potter, who goes into the final round clash having guided the struggling side to six straight defeats, said having a new board in place would bring much-needed stability.

“There were people previously with very good intentions but we just seem to be fighting against one another within the organisations,” he said.

“I think just having some independence will just add that stability to the organisation.

“We need to progress because I think we’ve been caught in a rut for quite some time so this will free us up and I think it will be a really good thing.”

As we all would remember this was at a time when the board was to decide on Potter’s future. It was clear back then and still is, it’s not people who need to be constantly churned, it’s the organisation which needs modern policies and procedures to keep people in their own lane as Richo puts it.

There's a common thread..........

Rinse and repeat ad infinitum

It really is the silly season when you read this thread.

The way people carry on, you'd think the board members are the ones out there on the field knocking on and missing tackles.

Most of the arguments that are brought up over and over again could apply equally, if not more the other clubs to other clubs. The Broncos for example have not won a comp since 2006. The poor old Eels haven't won a comp since I was a toddler. The Warriors have a monopoly over an entire country and still haven't won one.

Things are getting better. We have a gun of a CEO, some great signings and juniors on the way up plus a genuine vision and plan for the club beyond just selling pet memberships and getting more likes on Facebook.

For the first time in years, I feel as though we are actually going into the season as a significantly improved team and club.

My 2025 prediction is that this thread and the pointless petitions will have a quick and painless death once we start winning a few games.

Those clubs have still been competitive and played finals on the regular. We’ve only made the finals 3 times in 25 years in a comp where for the majority of those years, half the clubs played finals. It’s a pitiful record.
