LIVE GAME Preseason Challenge v Canterbury

Live Game Discussion
Lobb has shown that he's not even nsw cup standard today. He should be released ASAP. He's just blocking the spot of someone who might be able to play first grade one day.

I'd also just release Craig as well. Offers nothing. Might as well move on Tannous too
Lobb picks the defender and runs at the nearest one instead of space, he has no idea how to use the sideline and falls off tackles that he should smash.. very frustrating and underwhelming

From the players we expect in our starting 13 week to week, I think we looked ok! The rest is just as expected for reserve grade.

Galvin surely reins in the touches with a more vocal player like Luai next to him. Still has plenty of class in his game.

Would have liked to see more play involving Matamua, just took standard hit ups. Was nothing special yet again. Bird has that spot locked up.

Skelton had some good impact, combine that with Taruva/Naden/Olam/AD and we should see some go forward to start our sets.

De Silva looked very fit and got involved as much as he could, will be fine to fill that short stint hooker role for Api.

The rest are unlikely to see first grade without major injury so nothing to be too worried about. We lacked size and go forward, May, Pole and Hunt will make a huge difference.

I was fairly happy with all that.
Disregarding individuals and looking at the big picture imo it wasn't too bad.
We competed for 80.
Defense as a whole wasn't too bad, pretty aggressive.
Very few dumb plays brain snaps... They seemed to play for each other tho Galvin overdid it a bit early.
Hard to gauge fitness with so many players on & off
Attitude was good

Good coaching should have prepared him for that.
This is my concern. Either Benji is worried about the repercussions of reigning him in a bit with contract talks looming, or he has green lit him to do whatever he wants out there.

Experience should remind Benji that when he was given free rein himself, the results were inconsistent and when he was forced to pick his moments to inject himself, we played finals footy.
I think that’s a concern we both share. I think we have potential. Not convinced we will achieve it under the current set up.

Galvin seemed to swing around to the right side a fair bit, probably an indication Luai is going to play left and Galvin right. Probably means he'll put another release request in before round 10.

The chance to score in the corner near the end where he came back in said it all for me. Compare that to Kits charge at the line earlier. Two completely different intentions and mindsets.

I totally agree with your take on Galvin, but just on Latu. He's number 3 in line so he needed to go after the ball, make an impression There was plenty of times when Galvin played the ball but still Latu wasnt there . He didn't look proactive to me.
Maybe thats the issue - he knows he is number 3 and unless something untowards happens to the other 2 he is going to get limited opportunities.

Yes. First grade wingers finish that opportunity at full speed diving for the corner with an arm cocked for the put down.
It didn’t even cross his mind he could attempt that.

Yep it was a meaningless game. Some decent defence efforts but feel like the same issue every year. Our players just look smaller and get knocked over so much easier then the opposition.

Need to drop a few from the top 30. Not up to it.
They do not try to win the contact and throw the player on the ground .. this crap of trying to hold the runner up is ridiculous.. tackle properly and try to hurt the ball carrier so they are having a look .. I have no idea why they keep that same stupid technique every year

A lot of criticism of Galvin's involvement but I strongly disagree. Yeah, we looked frustrating attacking the goal line but Galvin still managed a grubber for a repeat set and mostly took good options. We have to give the benefit of the doubt that playing with a second string team is going to limit things a bit. Sure, there's a similar pattern to limited attacking play last season, but you still can't take trial action too seriously.

I think his involvement was really important in holding it together in our own half. And his long kicking game covered for some very weak sets out of our own half. He also took intelligent 5th tackle options. You guys seem to have forgotten how bad that can be with halves of prior years. I'm not a great Galvin fan but he looked a very mature player out there and definitely a class above anyone else on either side.

I think the criticism of Galvin is not whether he was good or bad, it was his over involvement. You can’t talk about it in terms of how it helped the team, because the result didn’t matter

One thing that stood out was the body size between the two teams , the dogs looked a lot bigger than the tigers
Yes they certainly appeared so.
Just on them, they are putting quite the impressive squad together. Their SG Ball team is pretty good too. They were comfortably the better team.
That said, our young blokes hung with them and competed right to end.
