Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I think the comparisons you make are not apples for apples. Injured players come back under the guidance of the club and continue to train in some capacity. Taylan has not trained with a club at all. The truth is, no one knows how he will return as a player.

On behavioural clauses - No one needs behavioural clauses - these things that you would want in his contract are grounds for immediate dismissal anyway. No need for a clause. What would you put in there anyway? How would you define it? There are catch all clauses that cover behaviour in all employment contracts. Look at your own employment contract. I'm willing to bet if you punched someone on the street and they identified you as working for your company, there is some clause allowing them to terminate you without specifically having to say you are not allowed to commit violence in a clause.

Lastly and most importantly, these poor bastards in our current squad have busted their ass in pre-season, won 2 games and narrowly lost 1 and some prick is going to demand a spot in firsts without any form to his name? What would you say if the coach dropped you for a guy that hasn't played in a year and the team has been winning?

Either way, it is a risk for the club, however with spots open, you'd think it was a wink wink nudge nudge from the club to say, mate...show us you're serious. Show us you've still got it and show us you can stay out of trouble until the dust blows over and one of those spots is going to be yours. By June 30, he would have been on a full NRL contract (form permitting). If he is too short sighted to see that, then he is too far up his own ass and better he demands a first grade spot elsewhere.

I want to sign him, he needs to offer some good will - not come in making the big demands so early in the piece.
Great post. This is how team/club culture is built. May needs to show he can buy in, the money will come down the track.

Well I'm not an accountant and it makes complete sense to me.

It's called maintaining a balanced squad. Olam is still there.

Are you saying WT aren't treating Taylan like a person because he has been offered a Cup contract? Keeping in mind he has been out of the game for a year and likely needs 6-8 months in reggies to get his timing etc back....
Rubbish 6-8 months, players come back to form sooner after an acl. Please.
He is a centre/winger, No a forward.

Watching Jamie Humprhies play like this would make DCE walking out sting a lot more.

The reason he left was because of DCE and being stuck behind him.

3 rounds into the year DCE announces he’s leaving.

Devastating stuff
For a club that raids other clubs and has more tiger players , losing DCE is wonderful news , they really think they are above all the other teams

Correct decision by the club.

We have backs depth this year in Staines, Faataape, Naden, L Luailli & Olam...

Give him time to train & find his feet.

We need to work out who we re-sign past this year.

We have the advantage of having his brother & being on the up with Api, Luai, Turuva as ex Panthers plus Skelton & Hunt are Samoan.

We need prioritise back rowers & middles for depth this year.

The competition is wide open. We do have a chance of finals looking at our draw.
Dumb move , we got a spot and cap just sign the bloke , do we really want to upset his brother, I agree he needs to except a low amount for the rest of the year , and then if he preforms well up grade him to a centres wages

Sounds like entitlement from May 8 games since 2022 GF, you’ve had a year long court case and no footy training and you want to waltz back into the league after a DV case, a different club will offer him something

I think what people forget is that Taylan May has only played 8 games since 2022. He didn't play at all in 2023, played 8 games in 2024 and hasn't played since. So 8 games since the 2022 grand final vs the Eels.
Exactly. Great approach from the club. It gives Taylan an opportunity to work hard from the bottom up this season and allows the club the view his work ethic. If the brothers are committed to playing with each other, they should be ecstatic the club has provided an opportunity. If Taylan returns & brains them in Cup, he can play NRL from Round 11 onwards as Cup contracted players can be selected from then. If he declines the offer, that gives the club a good insight into his mindset - ego!

I think it is very unlikely we will be filling all remaining top 30 spots from outside the club. I think there is a good chance Benji will be saying to those on a cup contract that there are 1 or 2 top 30 spots up for grabs come June - work hard, perform and show commitment and you will be rewarded. If May takes the deal now he could easily play himself into the top 30 in a couple of months. If May thinks he deserves a spot instantly, see you later.

this still leaves the opportunity for him to be upgraded to a top 30 contract if we need him earlier or he is absolutely killing it in Cup.

taylan was offered a nsw cup deal for this year and an upgrade to the top 30 next year

believe its why it has broken down
I thought we were over dumb decisions.

I don't care if he's missed footy, class is class. Offer him top 30 and let him work his way back, not an outright NSW cup contract.

No doubt this will cost us his signature, another club would love to take him into their top 30.

I feel like this wouldn't have been the case if we didn't have a good start. Think we've forgotten how bad AD and To'a can be.

Good points. Cant afford any drama when weve had a positive and encouraging start to the season.
Maybe they wait until the Olam info comes back and make a committed decision... We do need a strike centre as you said and the kid can play.
Also wouldnt want to be making things uneasy for big T, hes killing for us.
Exactly.
You don’t change a wining formula, not that I think we’re set, it only two games. But some consistency is an ingredient we don’t often have and I would like some. So yeah the bloke has some history I want us to be careful. We give away top 30 spots willy nilly in the past so I reckon he thought he was a walk up for one.
I don’t think this is the bloke we wanna be hard asses with in that regard as someone else said you can have injuries longer than the time he’s had off. I think a top 30 spot, starting in cup and when he’s knocked the NRL door down play him.
It’s not rocket surgery.

In regards to Taylan May .. the Tigers have put in an offer for him .. but we have to remain calm on this one .. we still have Olam on our books whilst he is going through this medical assessment period with the NRL. Not sure what's the outcome / hold up is with this .. no mention if the NRL have granted him a medical release from the club / game or not .. ?? and now there's chatter that he wants to play full time again .. ??

For those who are worried that if we do secure the services of Taylan and his attitude .. well we have his big brother Terrell with us .. and trust me Taylan aka "Tiny" will do what ever big brother says .. !! So Tiny will stay inline and perform for us ..

However people are right .. the longer this saga goes on .. the greater the chance we miss out on his
signature .. other clubs are circling as well :-(

Speculation is rife when no one knows what the actual situation is with Mr T May ( don't know him well enough to use first names or nick names). He may have other plans or suitors or just not like the Tigers - there is no panic for things your personally can't control.

Have u seen how the nsw cup side are going 😳

This is important and how he played in 2022 is no indication of how he will play in 2025...
I think the club made the right decision... Taylan needs to earn his stripes and if he does we will reward him..
Only a desperate club would sign someone with 2 1/2 years out of the game on a lot of money top 30 deal.
Good to see us doing smart business.

Dont think Xerri played many during his suspension from the NRL. I think he played a handful of reserve grade games after an off season of training and now look at him. It can be done if a player is dedicated and young enough. Is he dedicated? That's the real question.
