Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

He’s very rated here…
I don’t see it happening for him,
He’s small, not quick has a bit of a carry - but he’s hardly a To’o or Utai…

If I was setting an over/under on first grade games played for Luke Laulilii I'd have evens at about 180 atm. I think good first grader pushing 100 career tries is probably his floor at this point unless he has misadventure. One game doesn't define him. He's been stomping holes through adult men in NSW cup as an 18 year old. What he will be at 21 will probably blow our minds.

I hope you are right …. He had a huge game at FB in NSW Cup a couple of weeks back … but I thought he didn’t do much last night when he was the only one on the field with NRL Experience….

I think he might be a better FB than winger .., which is a problem for us because he won’t be getting picked ahead of Bula as long as he is here ..

Someone did suggest the other day we sign him for 4 years. You can’t say that there isn’t an inflated opinion of our juniors. Not just now. It’s always been that way. I guess when you are a poor club, you’re forever looking for the next great white hope.

Luke L has been developing nicely this season, but it should be no rush to re-sign him long term just yet as which rival club would currently have him in their NRL team ?
As myself and quite a few others keep saying, he’s a wholehearted player who always rips in and does his best, but but he doesn’t have any real weapons to his game other than his strong , whole hearted ball running.
He’s one of our local boys done good so we are obligated to keep developing him and find out what his best position is, but it’s not going to be a situation where we are fighting off big money offers from rival clubs at this stage.

I keep looking at his play/speed etc and remember the immediate impact Koroibete and the Fox had at WTs. Viewed in that lense, you have to have more in the arsenal so I hope he works really hard on his game.

Brian To'o says hi. Even Freddy likened Luke to To'o last night. That's his ceiling. Just needs another 12 - 18 months.

PD

All luke needs is experience which comes in time and he needs to spend time with a sprint coach.
Good Kid level headed and wants to stay what more can you ask of.

that was me. I stand by it.

if you had managed to watch him play in NSW Cup the past few weeks you'd get a fair idea of his quality. in addition, what he's produced in first grade as the current youngest player in the entire league up to this point is exceptional.

him and his brother will get multiple offers from other clubs if he goes to nov 1 , you’re underestimating how much clubs are on the look out for young talent . it’s not abt him being in their NRL team he’s very young they’ll be focused on developing them . dogs , manly , bears , dragons would all have a look at Luke and kit .

That's a fair comment. With the upcoming expansion, players will be in demand.

Let’s be completely honest …,Luke’s weakness is his height and taking high balls …he is going to be getting bombed all his career .., so I hope he is working on this as a priority

He didn't get a single opportunity in the opposition 20m. Everytime NSW had the ball on the left it went to Halangahu or Buchanan who took a run.

Halangahu is gun, he will be a star. Buchanan is seriously overrated. He's another Feledy, looked good in junior grades because of his aggressive run style but won't mean anything once he plays against grown men.

Was hoping Luke and Votano switched at some point to give Luke a go at fullback.

Plenty of people rate Luke as a future winger because of his build but literally all of his best games at NSW Cup and junior level have been at fullback. Hes a decent winger, but an elite fullback. Hopefully he can develop into an elite Winger over time.
I'm still bullish on his potential at centre.

No chance the Bulldogs will look at either of the Laulilli brothers, they have trended into being very body shape and skill set specific on the players they sign.
The Bulldogs have the other NSW U/19’s winger Rinakama who is about 6 foot 5 quick and strong and also have the tall and fast Jonathan Su’a waiting for an opportunity, they won’t be looking at a short winger with average speed to replace them.
Maybe the Bears might be interested, but even still he doesn’t fit the description of a player high on a rival club’s priority list, but he will be good for us to remain on a base level top 30 contract for another couple of years to see how he develops.
As Kelce68 has just mentioned above, it will be in our best interests to develop Luke L as a centre to eliminate him getting targeted as a short winger.
Some like to bring up the To’o comparison and I admit they are similar players at the same age, so it’s not out of the question that Luke L could end up being a similar type of player, but To’o does have an extremely good leap for a shorter winger which has helped him avoid being an aerial target for much taller rival wingers.
Luke L would need to work hard to try and create the leaping ability of To’o if he remains a winger.
