Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I’ve just read an article by Buzz about Willie Peters returning from the UK to possibly coach us. Old contact of Richo and been out of the NRL circus for a couple of years. I only remember him as a a journeyman at South’s. Any Suoer League experts who can give an opinion ?
Poor old Willie. Tugger Coleman gave him the kiss of death. Long before Brooksy was labelled the next Joey, Willie was anointed the next Peter Sterling.

Had Richo slipped with how much our offer to Api will be in the DT:

“The amount of money he was on – it was too much money to have as your back-up hooker in the cap. We would have had two hookers that would have cost us $1.35 million.“

So if TDS was going to be on $400K, congrats Api must be getting an increase next year to $950K (probably front loaded & decrease each season thereafter).

Doubt we would’ve kept him at $400k.
Especially given the offers he was getting, we wouldn't have kept TDS on less than 500-600k especially if agreed as 1st choice.

Do you think he’s worth that money, I don’t ?
I don’t think a 34y.o Api is worth that money either.

I remember the hype around Peters as a junior. Everyone had heard about him but he was nowhere near as good as James Webster who was the same age and at the Tigers. No idea why Willie had the hype he did and wasn't surprised at all he didnt make it.

Welcome Bud Sullivan back to the Wests Tigers then!
I know for a fact south's have been in talks with the club regarding keeping bud , and he is also happy to stay there but the signing of this new bloke probably means they couldn't reach an agreement financially. For the records Bud got no problem returning to the tigers as he has a really good relationship with Luai and a few of the boys. I think he will be back next year.

Isn’t Peters team leading the comp ? Didn’t think that was a problem Jase ever had to worry about as a head coach
That’s my point, it appears he and Burgess are the hot coaches over there at present. Burgess biding time until Bennett leaves, so Peters being courted. I was more interested in how he’s going now than when he played for South’s.
PS. Taylor is Ciraldos right hand man so maybe he’s changed from his Tiger days.

Taylor was always a good assistant coach, his issue was always the people management a head coach needs at nrl level.

I think we should keep Benji but if he goes and Richo is still here then Peter's will be the first choice

If he gets that cash then some club believes he is worth it regardless what we think.

Clubs will be forced to pay overs for potential.

In 3-4yrs wouldn’t surprise me if most clubs had 4-6 players on $1m each based on cap increase, market and squad sizes reductions

wait.

How does Bud have a good relationship with Luai?
They never seemed to have crossed clubs, so far?

There is almost zero chance Benji wouldn’t have a say in who stays and goes.
Sure, he has a say in the players he wants but he doesn’t have a say in the contract amount that’s offered. That’s Richo and the board. If a player receives a better offer elsewhere they may accept it even if the coach wanted them to stay. That’s standard practise across the nrl although some coaches have more of a say than others.
