Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I, from memory think the Tigers were actually made an offer by Parramatta's
Dennis Fitzgerald to talk about becoming the Parra Tigers, as the Tiger emblem was a greater marketing tool than the eel.

But we decided to go with Magpies.
As if we went to Parra, the League would have axed MAGPIES,
And we saved them from extinction by joining with them.

Now they wish the Tigers would become extinct
Pretty close.
The original offer was to merge with the Tigers and use the Tiger logo.
Then hardcore Eels changed their tune and wanted to retain the Eel.
Balmain then decided to merge with Wests as they saw both clubs to be similar in many ways…. Including the fact neither had much money
You’re correct though… the Maggies were gone or would have been swallowed by the likes of the Bulldogs (as Norths was by Manly).

What’s gone wrong is the players he now has around him compared to the players he had around him at Penrith. Chalk and cheese when it comes to playing as a team. We can’t expect one or two players from a good system to turn the team around when the rest of the team is still quite average and they’re not being coached well enough to play together as a team.
Yes, I consider your points quite valid, but at the same time, I’m a bit worried about his own game.

Was there an offer? I just remember Dennis Fitzgerald getting Parramatta Tigers merchandise made without even bothering to talk to the Balmain board.

There is no doubt in my mind that Benji will be gone if he collects another spoon, and he will understand that.
How do you think that would affect us regarding players signing cause of benji. I'm.not disagreeing with you I think regardless of the club or sport 4yrs without improvement on the ladder who be a no brainer I'm just not sure what the fallout would be Mr Sheens.

I would still like to promote him upwards / sideways to something like player relations manager / football manager / recruitment & retention manager - where his skills and ability at relating with footballers is used to good effect and to shift out of the coaching role which has shown a few flaws.

No he said we’d be bad then poor then average then good. We are currently poor. Average next year. I still think we’ll win 3-4 more games leaving us with 10 or so wins. On the up.
Unfortunately I think it's the most realistic way of looking at it. I'm sure the job is harder than any of us think despite all the experts that know better , I also think it's a bigger job than Richo anticipated.

Says who ?

With 90% ownership - if Wests wanted the Tigers extinct, they’d be bloody extinct!

As for your little history lesson, Wests also held talks with Canterbury, which would have left Balmain to be axed (for what its worth) 🤷‍♂️
Not quite correct. Post-merger it was revealed Balmain would have met the criteria to survive on their own. At least until Elias screwed them over.

While both are true Parra wanted to ‘ merge’ with Balmain and Canterbury with Wests ( with the nrl keen for both to happen) it is important to remember that both Wests and Balmain agreed that the so called mergers were in reality ‘takeovers’. Hence to the surprise of the NRL the Wests Tigers were born. The merger is just that a proper merger with initially Balmain being stronger financially and the reverse is currently true. It is 25 years ago now… time to accept the reality that the Wests Tigers are our club. Even though I was a magpies supporter in the old Prattern and Lidcombe days I accept the the reality. We all need to

Great post mate

Also look at the prospectus - currently they are mooting the breakaway comp; they need to sign players first before funders will back a competition. And even then the competition would be a one-off with a view to long-term if they think it went well.

But the plan to have nation-clubs from all across the globe playing... horrendous cost. Not to mention the Saudis have no care for rugby so this is pure speculatory spending and sports white-washing.

Fair enough for RTS he's 32 y.o. mercenary who wants one last million-dollar payday. You could imagine Joey Manu and other international rugby mercenaries in Europe or Japan might also be interested. Most other young blokes won't burn their careers on something that is currently so bits and pieces.

This isn't like LIV Golf, they haven't bought swathes of the best talent and the shiniest golf courses.

Isn’t it euros? Tax free also?

Works out to be much more than a million dollars if so

I think there was a 3 club merger proposed between Cronulla, Eels and Balmain and even the Bulldogs.

Thanks for your warped view of my post.
I wasn’t trying to ignite any hatred between Balmain and Wests but just stating a point.
HBG chairman, good old Denny Burgess, has been quoted as saying he wants to bring the Magpies back to the NRL.
By the way, I am also a member of Magpies social sites and I can tell you the vast majority HATE the Balmain side of the venture and want them gone so the Magpies can stand alone (wouldn't be surprised if you’re one of them).
Even after 25 years they feel aggrieved they were punted and their memories are so frail they can’t recall being saved by the Balmain offer to merge.
Remember neither club had much loot at the time.
All the talk is that now they do have the money they should punt WestsTigers and bring back the Magpie.
Go ahead and tell me it isn’t true.
Wow that’s pretty sad ppl are out there preaching either Wests Magpies or Balmain Tigers , the fact is they both fail to exist in the Nrl and the Wests Tigers have now been around for 25 years and there are fans out there that only know of the merged side , it’s time the old cronies pulled their heads in & got on board
