Bird is on skinny money. I reckon we end up keeping him because he doesn't take up too much cap and covers many positions.I think you're on the money, V.
I think we'll see a couple of surprising names move early in the next couple of months.
'Surprising' in that they're not the Feledys or Tumeths of the world, but I think those names, particularly Hunt and Bird, may well fall out the back door pretty quickly.
You will always have a few weak spots in a roster. Both in terms of timing i.e. young guns you don't want to lose/block however maybe 12 months away from first grade, or cap restrictions. Teams with top 3-4 hookers don't always have quality first grade ready back-ups as all the money is pumped into the starting 9, unless you are the Storm.
I actually do know AD's family are very comfortable financially, he probably does have better opportunities for (arms length) TPA's based on the fact he is a Junior and has been with the club 6 years. I'm guessing he did not have any other serious suitors (other than the Dragons) as clubs are probably like most of us and looking for more consistency from him. I actually think he would have had a better crack at playing 6 with the dragons than 7 with us, so I don't think it was about him playing 13 moving forward and more about the fact he is comfortable with Benji and his teammates. AD is probably still keen to have more clubs interested and getting courted at the higher end, which may be the case if he plays more games and consistently at a higher level and he could jag a bigger payday next November.I’m saying based on what I know, there is a possibility a 3rd party sponsorship deal could have been part of the deal to help get Douehi’s signature across the line.
If that is true, it’s great for Wests Tigers and our salary cap management.
I think Benji recruited him for his experience and utility, not as a game changer. His role next season will probably be helping develop the younger players. Pretty sure he is on minimum $$. I doubt we see him in first grade unless we have multiple players out injured.Jack Bird, he could be an important piece in what positions we are still recruiting depth for.
I don't think we'll be able to move him on nor do I think he'll want to go or retire. But he still can provide some value as a depth piece.
What position could this primarily be for?
I think either Benji still sees him as a bench utility to cover backrow, centre, lock or just as a depth centre to predominantly play NSW Cup and add experience to this team (and be called upon if absolutely required).
I thought it was about 250k?It was previously reported that Bird is on $400k per year.
"Bird's contract will reportedly be worth $400,000 a year, with the Dragons chipping in."It was previously reported that Bird is on $400k per year.
Media reports at the time had $400k pa with Dragons contributing some.I thought it was about 250k?
Could well be (I hope so). I have read somewhere, Foxsports maybe, maybe on here, that he was on $400k per. Unreliable sources I would say. So who knows.I thought it was about 250k?
😆 I’ll give you a points decision on this one!"Bird's contract will reportedly be worth $400,000 a year, with the Dragons chipping in."

Definitely Dragons chipped in. Can I safely say this one is a KO for me? 😅
You believe what you want to believe, but I was told by someone who I’m near certain is in a much better place to pass judgement than what you are, that it was very unlikely Doueihi would take a pay cut to re-sign with us.You make a lot of assumptions and speculative remarks based on absolutely nothing.
Let me tell you something. We live in an age where information travels very fast and have access to a huge amount of resources to fact check or at least deduce a fairly accurate probability of something being true.
All you've said is your mate...who none of us know...and you won't mention the source...has supposedly said money is important to Adam. The report comes out that he's signed for less than what you originally thought and you come up with some story about 3rd parties to buttress your narrative.
If your mate knew something, chances are he's not the only one and multiple people would have heard the same.
You take a skerret of information and turn it into your own personal fantasy. I think you have an over-active imagination.
Maybe there is a 3rd party, but nothing, anywhere, has been written about it and no one has mentioned it other than you.
So it's your sources (who you won't identify) opinion ? And now it's your opinion? Amd now it's fact? You believe what you want to believe, but I was told by someone who I’m near certain is in a much better place to pass judgement than what you are, that it was very unlikely Doueihi would take a pay cut to re-sign with us.
Based on that information I’m assuming we have either matched the other offer, or as I’ve speculated, there could be a Wests Tigers supporter and Adam Doueihi fan who was willing to assist financially to help keep him at the club.
That’s not illegal, it’s how the 3rd party sponsorships work as far as I am aware.
Funnily enough I’ve got several sources in a variety of different roles within the club, why would I name them all on a public forum ?So it's your sources (who you won't identify) opinion ? And now it's your opinion? Amd now it's fact?
What if I told you my source, who I won't identify, said Adam wanted to stay and the St George offer was fake and just designed to lift the Tigers offer?
I am torn as to how we play it moving forward...he is still getting 60 mins at 7… yeah it’s a disruption but not as much as playing 14 and then coming on where exactly ?
Be honest, someones Dad said something to you on the sideline didn't they?Funnily enough I’ve got several sources in a variety of different roles within the club, why would I name them all on a public forum ?

If Douehi simply took a pay cut to stay with us, than that’s fantastic news, but unlikely based on my information.
Very well said.I am torn as to how we play it moving forward...
Douheis form in the halves can't be dismissed... Doggies, Manly and the Eels. He played well in all 3 when he was playing 7.
Latu is only 20, so does it better his development to play 7 right now? Or does it benefit him to play the new age 13 role for a season so he gets the ball in his hands, without the responsibility of directing a team? Get those reps up in first grade... He still has less than 20 nrl career games, so it feels like a risk going into 2026 relying on him to lead us (with Luai) to a top 8 position.
Or do we bring in a proper halves coach (has to be of johns/Cronk/Thurston calibre) for Latu to get a full pre-season under... ? But is that a risky play if Douhei is already killing in the halves?
Alot of it comes down to how Douhei finishes the year if he plays in the halves...
I'm glad I'm not the one making the decision.
The truth in that paragraph lies in the last sentence; "If Douehi simply took a pay cut to stay with us, than that’s fantastic news, but unlikely based on my information." I.E. I dont really know, but somebody told me.“I’m assuming “….“I’ve speculated “ … “there could be” … it’s not the strongest case you present
Ok Douehi signed with us for 350k, 150k less than the Dragons offer simply because he loves the club and he’s happy to play 13, 14 or left right out.“I’m assuming “….“I’ve speculated “ … “there could be” … it’s not the strongest case you present
Ok Douehi signed with us for 350k, 150k less than the Dragons offer simply because side he loves the club and he’s happy to play 13, 14 or left right out.
Does that sound better ?
