Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

How good has Taylan been playing after so long out of the game he walked into the side and owned his position straight away his defense is great and is really dangerous with the ball.

500k per season is a bargain for the club if the news is true, let's hope his demons are well and truly in the rear-view mirror.

This is an example of a player getting an opportunity and his class shows that's where he belongs, hits the road running.
Now here's hoping Makasini shows us we have another blueblood this weekend, if so, our backline is very exciting for next season.

AD will be playing 13. with the size he'll be required to put on he's going to be more of a backrower than he is a centre. Saukuru's also converted to the edge. we're losing Feledy, Faataape, Staines and likely Naden from the 30, Olam too if you count him. Makasini and May are getting upgrades, but as you can see, we're light on.

Richardson showed his hand when TDS left. he re-signed Hope that week. they obviously think that with Hope, Murray and Haywood that there's enough there. if we can sign a Havili that'd be ideal, but I think they've done their shopping at 9 for the time being.
It's somewhat disappointing whatever has gone down between the club & Bud Sullivan too, obviously partially to get his $500K+ off our books with the halves we already have. But he would almost be the ideal bench player to play 15-20 mins at dummy half to give Api a break. The problem is his 2nd positional cover would be in the halves which we'll likely have AD/Latu on the bench to cover.

Off on a tangent here, I wonder whether a Seyfarth has the capability of playing dummy half in short stints. He has the tank & ball skills, whether he has the long passing game both sides in his repertoire for this like Charlie Murray has.

So am I idk what's going on atm but that should never of happened. Sorry wrong thread but couldn't resist . Still filthy.
They went all in on Ronaldo and tore apart an awesome team to afford him, been in decline ever since, now they're trying to build a winning team on value transfers. We can thank that muppet Andrea Agnelli for this disaster he caused all this. Elkan as well for allowing it as the owner. Sorry wrong thread. I'll stop now.

agree on Bud but his salary's just too high to carry on the bench. think he's better off at Souths where he's a good chance of being Cody's successor.

Seyfarth could but I'd probably steer clear.

Half the board has got AD as the starting 7 next season …not the 13 …

If we have to rely on Hope next year as starting 9, I expect other teams to exploit him …just like they do other depth we have put up this year at various times eg Naden …

Murray and Haywood are unproven as NRL 9’s and are development players next season ..so does that mean they are unavailable for NRL selection until late in the season ?

Yep, Latu is not a right-sided 1/2, not now and probably not ever. We just re-signed an ex Junior in Andrews = d'ya reckon his parents said - oh, we don't mind if our MOM U/18 QLD SOO halfback is 2nd fiddle behind outstanding young 5/8 Latu? Latu will be our long-term 5/8 and Andrews will be our 1/2 come 2028 after Luai leads us to the GF in 2026 & 27 and settles into a mentor role for those kids.
You do realise Andrews played 5/8 and was completely outplayed by his halfback, up until the half got a concussion with 10 to go and then he started contributing...?

Andrews is most definitely a running 5/8, fullback or centre. At least at this stage

I appreciate you can only play AD at one position…but at least he can play at an NRL level at Center …. They have other options at 7 ( Latu ) and 13( Twal and others) ..

Will you be happy relying on Hope as starting 9 is Api is out ? Major red flag for me …
Fair point TS. It's just the whole 'rob Peter to pay Paul' scenario. Yes AD would be the ideal depth right centre if To'a is injured but what happens if he's killing it at lock or half next season. I guess another unknown is whether Benji feels Makasini, Turuva, Bird or even Skelton are options at right centre.

Good teams have at least 2 NRL quality outside backs for each position (wing, centre, left & right) so if, touch wood it doesn't happen, say 2 of our first choice OBs are out for an extended period, we don't lose much.

Here's hoping Max Taotua & Tino Turuva take a giant leap forward next season too to throw themselves into the equation.

With another big pre-season I think Hope can develop to be Api's understudy next season. He is one of the best hookers in NSW Cup.

But proviso is, we do need another hooker utility as you say. Murray is still unproven & Haywood's body won't be ready for another 12 months.

Once Bud is officially off our books, we have 3 spots left in our top 30 (maybe more depending on Bird) so a Siliva Havili would be ideal to rotate with Hope in the scenario that Api misses.

Let’s see what the plan is…

If Hope ends up as the back up Hooker plan …let’s Hope for the best that his requirement for NRL time is limited … still would feel better with another option …

The squad is unbalanced in a couple of areas… hooker and outside backs shortage …oversupply of back rowers … need a bigger name in the middle

I think Latu will be given every opportunity to play halfback with AD to do the bulk of his reps at 13. they might decide Latu isn't ready by R1 but it's prolonging the inevitable.

Hope got smashed by Penrith but he's had other games where he's done well. not worth writing him off yet and the club clearly thinks as much.

Development players can play from R1. I anticipate Haywood will probably start the year in Cup and begin to work his way up. I don't think he's too far off pending he can get used to the contact in the senior grades.

The fact it's a one-year deal leads me to believe it might be akin to the Daine Laurie situation...no space today, however 2027 we can find you a slot. For the Panthers its a win/win...comes to the Tigers and kills it, they get him back, comes here and stinks it up...sorry Mav that spot has not opened up for you.
Don't forget Perth come in 2027. So it may be a case where Mav wanted options to head there if he goes ok for us too

you don't rate him I take it?
Everyone would rate him higher if he could get through a season with no injuries, that's the only drawback.

When he's sound his form is good but when he tries to play with niggles his game suffers in defense and attack, some players can push through it, but he seems not able to.

Not defensively. And he's too hot and cold. I'd love someone with a higher workrate and played at a higher intensity like Taylan. The Broncos have Grant Anderson coming so Shibusaki, Arthurs and Deine Mariner are shooting out for limited spots. I'd kill for one of those three
I want more consistency in games played and performance.

Here's the story from behind the paywall ...

Bud Sullivan will remain at South Sydney for the next two years – and has taken a $100,000-per-season pay cut to do so.

Sullivan joined Wests Tigers on a lucrative four-year deal ahead of 2024 season, but made only eight appearances before being loaned out to the Rabbitohs for this year. Under the terms of the arrangement, Sullivan was required to return to the Tigers at the end of this season unless the parties came to a new arrangement.

That has come to pass after Sullivan agreed terms on a Souths extension. The deal was made possible after the Tigers agreed to pay part of his freight, while Sullivan himself had to take a wage cut. The former Dragons half will leave a six-figure sum on the table, a price he is willing to pay to continue to learn under Wayne Bennett.

The deal appears to be a win-win for all parties. Sullivan originally moved because it appeared he would be stuck behind Jahrome Luai and Lachlan Galvin, although the latter ended up joining the Bulldogs. That still left the Tigers with Luai, Adam Doueihi and Latu Fainu as halves options, while also bolstering the Rabbitohs’ playmaking stocks.

Souths have made no secret of their desire to offload Lewis Dodd, who has two years remaining on his contract and has only been activated at NRL level when all other options were extinguished.

Sullivan agreed terms with Souths at the same time veteran five-eighth Cody Walker re-signed for 2026. Other playmaking options for next year include incoming Dragons halfback Jonah Glover, Jamie Humphreys and Ashton Ward.

Only injuries prevented Sullivan adding to the 13 games he has played for the Rabbitohs to date.
Meanwhile, the “Pride of the League” is close to doing a deal that will result in David Fifita moving across from the Titans. The transfer will be expedited if they are able to move on Dodd, or if prop David Moale – granted permission to negotiate with rivals – finds a new club.

The retention of Sullivan and Walker provides stability after an injury-interrupted season.

“This is a special group of people we have here at South Sydney – players, coaches, administration, members and fans – and I’m certain we can achieve some great things in the coming years,” Walker said in a statement.

“There are some wonderful young talents in our playing group and I see my role as helping mentor them to become regular NRL players, whilst also producing top performances of my own on the field for the team. I know we can achieve great things and I want to be part of that.

“But what is really important to my partner Amy and I is that our family loves this club, and we feel like we are part of the Rabbitohs family. My boys are growing up as Rabbitohs. My eldest son, Kian, has earned his own red and green jersey in the junior rep development teams; my middle son, Kade, is beside me on the field as a ballboy; and my baby son, Kora, is starting to recognise the Rabbitohs logo and the colours that we all represent.

“Amy and I also have a little girl arriving in December and I’m certain she will be a little Rabbitoh too! This is a special place.”
