OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

Played well second half of the season. Will shine with AD at half or lock. Babysitting too many halves last year. The addition of Taylan May with Sam Fainu and Makasini coming on will create a left edge that’s damaging. Tigers will be very competitive next year. We need a couple of signings hopefully a lock and a backup hooker/utility.

I’m a fan of Luai .. now more than previously. I was worried about him coming over. But now I see a different guy than I thought he was. You cannot discount the presence he brings to this group, off and on the field. His contribution to building a winning culture is immense. As for his footy, I think he was better once the sook left us and will find his place at 5/8. If you watch the highlight reels of our tries this season he is involved in most of them.
He is a smart guy and knows what and where he needs to improve for us.
Honestly I never liked him before but he’s changed my mind through his actions and that I admire.

Agree.
You, as have many others have highlighted, our Achilles heel is a lock and a quality replacement on the bench for Api while he gets a second breath.
I hope Bunty can restrict May's minutes on the field as well.
The bench is so important these days. It must be strong and relentless. No drop off in intensity.

💯 we have some depth next year the drop off is not as far as before. It’s the time for Richo to make some moves this offseason.

Imo for everything he has brought to the club, even though by his past seasons he had a pretty "quiet" year, we got a good deal. By his standards. He took a back seat to Galvin, watched Galvin leave after doing nothing but allowing the manager to cause havoc in the media, had to rework a combination with Douhi then Fainu, he never had a solid halves partner the poor guy this year had no stability in the halves. His second half of the season was much more potent and direct he showed his capability. I totally understand the clauses I prob would do the same thing with the Tigers history of dumping coaches. At some point though ideally the club needs to negotiate the clauses out, otherwise every year till he is gone one way or the other true or false Luais contract is all the media will focus on. That can't be ideal for team unity or dynamics. He needs to walk the talk and commit.

If I remember correctly, it's just the one clause, and once he decides to continue past 2026, he's locked in for the duration of the contract. He has to activate it by April 2026, and I'm guessing if he does nothing, it automatically gets removed. So if I were Luai, I'd leave it there and maybe, once the season is underway or just before Game 1, announce that it's been removed and I'm locked in—better drama.

Makes it hard for a succession plan for our next half - 5/8 combo.
Is Javon Andrews a part of the succession plan?
Hoping he turns out to be as good as we all hope he will be?

Your probarbly right, it'll just be good to get noise around it to go away once everyone knows what's happening for the duration of it. In saying that I can't blame him and have no doubt the clauses are there as a way to get out incase Benji is let go.

Spot on, everyone involved would be better served with certainty. If he does go I hope he gives the club plenty of time to sort something out, though I think he will stay for the length of the deal provided Benji is the coach.

Jerome has come out and stated he’s happy to stay as long as the club do the right thing by him and his family ???
What is he talking about, he’s being paid 1.25 million dollars per season, is that not doing the right thing by him and his family ?

Luai was stated as saying ,if he took up any option (worded) it will be a 3 year deal , imo him n kerosene will not be value for money then
He didnt control the side in the 2nd half of the year , like he did when Cleary was busted a few years ago
Think he is in for the long haul though, Can lead a Tiger to water but can't make it drink .
He needs to step up himself and take the rest of em with him , thats what his payed for

Whatever anyone’s opinion of Romey is he has earned the right to have clauses in his contract. Everyone on here knows the media scrutiny our players & club get. Rightly or wrongly. So many other big name players have clauses in their contracts that don’t get a mention. I get it, we all want him to remove those clauses to show how committed he is but I will take his word. I believe he is here for the long haul. Reading that article from yesterday was very different to hearing that interview. I have no doubt he is sick of the journalists asking the same questions. He has never waivered from his commitment here. Not once has he even hesitated when answering the same question. Everyone needs to remember he had journalists staying outside his house in the days leading up to him signing with us. Do I think he lived up to his price tag absolutely not, do I think he will, absolutely I do. It took a long part of the season for him to find his mojo but I think that combination of him Sam & Tiny can be a nightmare for opponents. He will be filthy we didn’t make the 8 & he will be filthy with his own overall performance
Dis Romey, would boo Santa Clause... wot a bunch of bores.

Yes Vicious, what exactly is he talking about? Has he not seen the club’s family first policy in action? Or was it a ruse to attract Samoans? Why is it necessary for the captain to call out the club on this particular behavioural policy?
